Why Doesn't Hip Hop Respect DJ Vlad

Across the glorious and chequered pages of hip-hop history, instigators have always played a crucial role. Born of both purposeful actions and seemingly meaningless remarks that’d be blown out of proportion, the genre operates with an inherently short fuse. Nowadays, within a hip-hop media realm that requires sensationalised news to come churning off the assembly line, troublemakers are god-sends. Meaning that, whether it’s Soulja Boy, Tekashi 6ix9ine’s trolling sprees, Kodak Black’s unchecked disrespect, or 50 Cent acting as a cultural debt collector, these artists never fail to leave headlines in their wake. But when it comes to hip-hop figures that excels in manufacturing chaos, few have come close to DJ Vlad.

I found Vlad's interview with Suga Free really frustrating. For about 10 minutes at the end they actually talked about music and Suga Free got extremely animated and you really got a sense for how much he loves the genre. Was frustrating because it could've been a great interview if Vlad hadn't spent the other 90 minutes asking Suga Free about pimping, which mostly caused him to act subdued and evasive. *sigh*

Nah he asking about the pimping, the drug dealing, and the killing that ALL THESE DUDES BRAG ABOUT EVERYDAY AND IN THEIR MUSIC. He's asking what tons and tons of fans want to know about. He's asking about the vague references to the dirt that we hear in these people's music and such. He'd be a nobody if he didn't. I appreciate that vlad talks about other things besides just promoting albums. You can get articles where they talk about those type of things plenty other places. So i appreciate that you get unique stories and information in a vlad interview. On the other hand sometimes he is disrespectful with the way he handles some of the subject matter. He will start explaining a subject to someone who has way more knowledge than he does. He had an MS13 member on one interview and he starts debating with the guy details about the gang. Why would he argue with someone who in an authority on MS13 when vlad has just read some shit on google about MS? Because you read something online doesn’t make you an expert. It just makes you a parrot. Thats not knowledge when you have not experienced the things you are talking about. Also he can be super condescending when he had a differing opinion on something sometimes. Like laughing about someone else’s take as if to say obviously that isnt true. I get why people would not want to do an interview with him. But i don’t necessarily think he is a culture vulture. I don’t think you should have to black to appreciate hip hop culture. I think hip hop should appreciated and highlighted across the board for all the great things that it is. Just like black history should not be something that is discussed in school during february only. It should be discussed everyday. I mostly just think vlad should re watch his interviews a little more and try to improve his craft so he connects with his the person he is interviewing better and is showing them more respect. Sometimes he sounds like he is looking at the persons life like it is a car wreck. If he could improve this I think people would open up more and give him more interesting details.

I feel like most people don’t really understand that journalism doesn’t have any boundaries. Any and every question is on the table. It will be asked, and you have the option to answer or keep silent. Recently Vlad has been interviewing a lot of big time drug lords which I feel like a lot of people want to chime in, but when it comes to street guys who are also rapping, now it becomes an issue and Vlad is a fed. Journalism is the desire for absolute truth, and I don’t think there’s many big time journalists in the hip hop industry. Most other “interviewers” are really glorified radio hosts. They ask about what project you got going on and that’s that. It’s kind of like a press release. He’s actually doing journalism, there’s a flow to his interviews. (At least the first one that any host is doing with him)

I'm beyond happy that someone is cleaning up the Hollywood r&b, rap, & hip-hop "culture", because I'm sick of my people being led by "stars" who are not MORALLY, nor ethically responsible enough to be considered fit to lead ANYBODY (including themselves). 💯 I couldn't care less about any number of hollywood people getting locked-up, that number of arrests will never pass the numerous amounts of *generations* who were misled, or swayed by popular/poisonous "artist" (well-paid agents of mass destruction).

We have to value ourselves more. We, our culture, our presence, our qualities, our talents, are not for every price, every table, every situation. We don't need to have a slave mentality anymore. We can set our own price. If a black guy from the street asked certain questions you would side eye him.
