I have seen people criticising this kind of job lifestyle if it turns out the same as minimum wage or not much more but, to me, it is still worth it to earn the same but not have to deal with the BS of workplaces, management, red tape, and all the staggering incompetence. Trouble with low margin is you get hit hard when post prices increase (several times per year in australia).

Love a spreadsheet video 👍 I record sales line by line so I know the actual profit per sale. My business took off when I started only sourcing items that bring above average profit per sale.

Do you just sell on Ebay or on other platforms too? I also sell on Ebid, Amazon and Etsy, as appropriate. Especially Ebid, because the fee structure there's a lot more reaonable than Ebay. I sell books, postcards, magazines, viewmaster reels and suchlike - low value items that can often sit for a while before they sell, and Ebay's not a good place to sell longtail items these days. I'm impressed with the fact that you're able to make a living doing this.

how do you find ebid and etsy for magazines and postcards? i assumed the footfall would be on ebay. thx

@@ianian2502 It's true that historically Ebay gets more traffic than Ebid, but that's been in decline for ages, especially if you're a small seller to start with. All the successful sellers on Ebid say that you have to promote your listings using Facebook etc, and I think it's getting that way with Ebay too, as well as Etsy to a lesser extent. I don't sell so many magazines these days, but I have been listing a lot of postcards over the last year and a half, and they do sell reasonably well. I like them because they don't take up much space, they're easy to post, and also cheap and easy to obtain in large numbers. I'd say if you're dealing in vintage stuff, Etsy and Ebid are both well worth trying. You have to figure out the strengths and weakinesses of each platform and adjust your strategy accordingly.

You should just sell the old stuff and not renew the stock. It'll give you more space for more book stock and 2 you may find another good selling item that is reasonably easy to replenish with a good margin.
