I am an INFP and a poet. I like to come up with images that are bizarre and out there to communicate emotions and ideas. I draw a lot from my feelings and personal life. I definitely fit with the idea of introverted feelers trying to express their pain. I want to have people who understand me, but still be somewhat mysterious. A quote that resonates with me as a creative is “Artists are people driven by the tension between the desire to communicate and the desire to hide” - D.W. Winnicott

ENTP and similar. I think it’s partially that I want my Ne running free all the time even if it may not be sustainable. So if I try to force myself to do something I might rebel against it. Even against myself, yes. So I find that some fashion of structured procrastination has become a system in my brain whereby I become productive or creative on things that I am not actually focused on. Even better if I’m not supposed to be focusing on them ;)

As an INFP I find it hard to be creative under even mild pressure and I really need externally imposed structure, which is why I picked a more conventional career path. I think a lot of INFPs go into less "creative" careers for this reason, and I think a lot of creative types get mistyped as INFP (Marcel Proust for example)
@Multitudes_
@Multitudes_ 3 жыл бұрын
As a fellow INFP, I don't relate. I'm a freelancer, working from home on a flexible schedule, and would never go back to a normal job with a rigid routine and micromanagement from others. In fact, I'm still not fully satisfied with the amount of freedom and flexibility I have, and want to do more creative and authentic work down the road. Many of us do go into creative careers, and many of us dislike externally imposed structure, preferring maximum freedom and autonomy. There are those who choose more conventional paths as well, or as you say, have a hard time managing their work/life without externally imposed structure, but don't assume this is the INFP norm. Really, that need to impose some order and structure on our lives is why it's important to develop our lower functions. Those who are well-rounded in that way can often manage on their own. Proust as an INFP makes perfect sense to me personally, and if anything I find INFPs tend to be under- rather than overtyped by other people - sometimes as ENFPs based on outwardly expressing a lot of Ne, sometimes as INFJs or thinking types when they show a lot of intellect or insight.

As an ENFP. My connections and ideas I explore are never random to me. Like they make complete sense and I often don’t realise other people don’t know it. An example of this is in conversation with someone where I jump seemingly randomly between topics and brainstorming all these ideas and concepts that other people can’t keep up with. But I’m living in my happiest state and most other people are like “what?!”. I love it when I have another XNXP in those situations who can also see these links or offer new ones of their own that we can explore and Bounce ideas off of. INTJ too: I have been curious about video game psychology (it is a thing given the millions that go into production). In open world video games there is still the need to garner the interests of multiple styles of game play (builders, traders, fighters, managers etc) So perhaps it is like a choose your own adventure, but with more subtle hints.. the more subtle the choices and reasoning behind it... the more fascinating it might be. Why do people do what they do? What environmental and social interactions factor into the choices people make? What are the common sequences of actions that lead to these paths being formed? For instance Napoleon is quoted as saying, "to know a nation's geography is to know its foreign policy" amazing how millions of lives can be molded by a shape. Have you come across anything like this?

I'm a Book Reviewer and Editor so a lot of my creativity is involved in an appreciation and love for the written word. There is intuitive thinking analysis to discover deeper meaning in the books like theme and metaphor. Also, the judgemental ability to critique books by weighing what I like and don't like and building that network by scheduling my entries and sticking to deadlines. Also because I work from home that plays on my introversion and private time to explore those deep thoughts in literature. So I consider it a perfect career for an INTJ.

I consider myself highly creative as an INTP. I'm self-employed, and my job is to bridge the abstract with the tangible, by grounding broad concepts with logic or some sort of schematic. The shock value bit was dead-on. I love blowing the minds of unsuspecting people. My motive is to present my findings, connections, and fundamental basis for applied philosophy or ethics, with the goal to ultimately let the person decide their own interpretation. I don't ever argue to be right, that's too relative, I argue (discuss) to be challenged because my creative side lives for that; it helps expand my theories. Yes, I love making "mental systems of connections", however, I equally love reorganizing them, tweaking them, refining them, and sometimes, I start from scratch, for fun. I'm grateful you didn't gloss over us with some lame joke about being a robot whilst completely invalidating the inherently creative nature rooted in the act of seeking to make connections between seemingly unrelated concepts. I like to think of INTPs as "seekers" but many types may feel the same; I'm not restricting the act of "seeking" to just INTPs, as it relates to dismantling and recreating the connections we observe, however, INTPs are excellent pattern seekers and that goes well beyond programming, gaming or whatever other general stereotype attributed to INTPs suggest. There is a lot of beauty in patterns, we just aren't always aware we are observing one. A beautiful piece of music, a dance, a piece of art, a mathematical formula, the plotline of a play (as well as the archetypes and character arcs. within that plotline, and writing technique, etc), and so on. These are all calculatable -- and yet, that doesn't make them any less moving. Those familiar with the golden ratio will recognize this ancient point that I've brought up. My theory is that everyone uses these patterns as "tools" for their creativity, but perhaps some aren't as aware on a conscious level, that is what they're doing; those who lead with "feelings" are acting on those same patterns but they're processing them in a different way, as our subconscious picks up on patterns almost non-stop, and is responsible for 95-97% of our cognitive activity, while our conscious awareness is only 3-5%. I have enjoyed reading how all of the different types define and relate to creativity, within this comment section. I will have to save this video in a playlist so I can continue to read more of the comments after the video has been up a little longer. It's wonderful to get a glimpse of someone else's reality, especially when related to the functions that govern and create said reality.

As an ENTP who questions their extroversion and in science/tech I can relate so much to this! It’s very important to me to be precise and systematic and logical. But sometimes you got to probe things with novel stimuli need to understand them. Including people, or systems of people. Like, somebody’s got to be the kid who says the emperor has no clothes ;-) What a hassle….. (I relate also the not arguing to be right part, despite our stereotype as people who like to argue for sport…) Finally, for me, ENTPs and INTPs are the funniest people. That’s a side of creativity that tends to get overlooked in favor of things like traditionally acknowledged arts and stuff. ENTPs are more likely to be constantly using humor, but when they are comfortable/in their element INTP can also be highly creative and hilarious.

@@1chienandalou In school, I was an S rammed through the college/academic (N) track, when I would have been better suited to more concrete, less theoretical things. Vocational/technical would have been a more solid track for me. Not that I wasn't smart enough or not capable, just wired differently. It was a real struggle to work with abstract stuff. Metaphors and symbolism in literature went completely over my head, though I could appreciate good storytelling. I went back to college in my 40s and I guess my N function had developed by then, because I thrived.

As an infj, I am creatively at my best when I feel like fooling around with a bit of creative intent in my mind or with a really big drive of enthusiasm when looking up to a concept, artist or idea. I create fully by thinking, rarely putting feeling or aesthetic in front, and rather focusing on the meaning, symbolism and connections and functional framework of a piece (music mostly), and later work on aesthetics, functionality or accessibility to other people.

As an ENTP, I could relate to this strongly re how my mind works (how creativity is primarily thought based) but in terms of where I start with at all and the execution, I am more comfortable with parallel processing or even chaos. But then again, we are Ne/Ti. I find INFJs and ENTPs can complement each other great mentally with that Ni/Ne engagement, and both having Ti and Fe, leading to creative ideas, solutions, moments,… (I write and “think” for a living, and music and (visual) arts as hobbies)

I totally make music in order to express truth through interconnection of seemingly random things, in order to make others feel a certain way, and it being a craft is bonus points. NeTiFeSi for the win. To become a professional though, I've had to polish my Te and Se so much that by now they're both stronger than my Si. Maybe this explains why I've always not quite seen myself fit in the function stack of ENTP.

ENFP here, and I feel very cool now, but also seen, as he's on point that we have a lot of natural creativity largely because we're random AF, and also that things that seem random to a bunch of people we tell it to (and we tell everyone everything we are excited about, so trust me the ideas have been unofficially focus grouped to THE MAX) seem almost logical to us, and often it can be like, ENFP has this thought or project and then thinks, nah that's ordinary or ugh how derivative and lots of other people are like, oh how creative. In the same way an ENTJ or INTJ designs an airplane that can fly and holds x number of people and goes however fast without refueling too much but also meets safety standards and doesnt feel like a sky coffin when you fly in it, and often the ENTJ/INTJ's creativity is overlooked because the world expects airplanes.

Below are my thoughts on each type: INFJ - incredible imaginations, but not necessarily the most creative, doesn’t want to do things outside of comfort zone and so can limit their ability to create something truly unique. But when they do take a risk, the result is quite creative! e.g. think of their humor which I think can be incredibly funny and unique! ENFJ - more expressive than INFJs but limited bc they also focus on how people will respond, which can keep them from darker/weirder/more unique creative expressions ISFJ - crafty as heck but not creative ISTJ - insightful when it comes to logical implications, but not necessarily creative ESFJ - picks up on trendy things that creatives like, but not creative ESTJ - INSIGHTFUL when it comes to logical/business implications, but not necessarily creative ENTP - come up with very unique pathways to argue a point, so I give them a high creativity rating, also really good liars which requires imagination and creativity ENFP - semi-decent liars, so I give them some credit. I do think they appreciate creativity more than produce it, but I’m probably just biased bc they annoy me with how little they listen to others and how often they’re logically wayy off when expressing an idea :p ESFP - although they are performers, they seem to express themselves in conventional artistic forms ESTP - semi-decent liars but I can’t say I’ve seen them be all that creative. Honestly, I only think they're ok at lying bc they do it so often, not bc they're creative. Video idea: which types LIE THE MOST? INTJ - I suspect they are WILDLY creative, but we’ll never know bc they keep it all to themselves or they do it in areas that no one understands anyways ENTJ - I think they have the potential to be creative but they value getting things done so much that they cut off any creative thoughts in favor of efficiency ISTP - omg who knowssss?? INTP (me) -surely creative, but of a limited imagination that best handles the abstract and tends to stick to more esoteric areas of expression that no one cares about anyways ISFP - the MOST creative. they follow their own path 100% and do it with feeling and a good sense of what is unique v. what is a phony re-representation INFP - the SECOND MOST creative, though I think their ideas lose value bc they do not understand that some of their expressions come off as grand depictions of their own self-loathing (i.e. deeply self-involved and melodramatic) while the ISFP is actually creating things that other people can have a private, personal, and meaningful response to.

I think you have a skewed view of INFPs based on the depressed & unhealthy INFP stereotype, which unfortunately far too many people hold. Not all INFPs are depressed or self-loathing, not at all, and plenty of INFP creators have created things having nothing to do with self-loathing - Shakespeare, Tolkien and various other fantasy writers, the transcendentalist writers, Hayao Miyazaki, etc., not to even mention more out-of-the-box INFPs like Stephen Colbert. (And hell, even more stereotypical INFPs like Van Gogh and Kurt Cobain managed to create things that have majorly resonated with a great many people.)

@@Multitudes_ That might be fair. I think I should have said they CAN lose value for those reasons, but they do not ALWAYS lose value for those reasons. Yeah, I'm a writer and I need an outline to write a book, but many writers do and I appreciate story write by plotters like J.K. Rowling or Leigh Bardugo. Another bonus of an outline is that you get writer's block very rarely. My Ne and Fe make me great at brainstorming with other people - that's why I love writing in duets. I was also a screenwriter and using an outline, treatment, synopsis and many other forms of making a pattern and developing it is a standard in the industry. That's what pros are doing, because it makes the job faster and easier, and you can still be pretty creative.

I'm an ENFP and I like to find the balance between socially relevant art (people-related issues) and actually interacting with the people whom I source the art from. Dream in the future is to be a muralist in NYC or something, so that people can feel heard and relay important concepts of equality and community.

Yeah as an INTJ I tend to make stuff that I think will sell (may or may not end up that way but that's how I decide what I will make) or I make useful items for people I love, like sewing up baby carrier cover & bibs for my pregnant sister, that's better than what's typically on the market. I also tend to make items for myself that I just don't see for sale anywhere. I guess if I were an ENTJ I would turn that stuff into a successful business but I tend to lack energy and motivation to go to that much trouble. I am also a 5 with a strong 4 wing and was always much better at stuff like creative writing than math, in school. But sometimes I would create things that no one else seemed to quite understand. I also got into major arguments with teachers in high school and college when I would have a different interpretation of some literature.

@kpop It sounds like we have the same brain! When I sewed, I made medieval costumes for my re-enactment activities, but I never had the ambition to do it to sell. I also sewed things for my real life that weren't available in the American market (then when I visited England, there they were in the shop windows!). I make jewelry, but I try to make things that will sell, although sometimes I guess wrong, but everybody guesses wrong sometimes. My husband says that if I figured out how to predict correctly every time, I could write a manual and sell that, instead, and make a fortune! Also like you, I'm better at literature than math, and I see patterns in stories that slide right by other people. I was writing an essay for an award when I was a senior, and the professor told me not to go with my first idea because it went contrary to all of the established critical theories of the time. He actually thought I was right, but the essay would have been rejected out of hand. That incident, among others, put me right off the idea of going into literary criticism in my graduate studies. That subject is just as prone to being stodgy as any other; if it doesn't follow the leader.... [INTJ]

As an isfp artist, I don’t need or want an idea. The best artwork I’ve ever done starts with how I’m feeling emotionally. It’s only when it’s nearing completion that I can see the meaning in it. I don’t need an idea, I go inside to be more aware of myself, then go from there. I stay mindful of my internal state the entire time I’m drawing or painting. It’s mindfulness, and presence. Intuitive’s seem to think they are more creative, but let them try too go about it like that 😀

Intuition can also be just doing it. Ni/Se is an axis. When you use one, you use the other, so you can start creating something while just following your gut, while still using Ni

@@katielarsen2630 I know what you mean, what I’m talking about though is just getting in touch with my emotions in my body, then I just start making marks. When I feel stuck I turn the work on its side and keep going. I just keep doing that while feeling what I’m feeling. I try not to think because thinking messes it up. It rarely turns out like something you would see in reality. But it does express my internal state.

Realist art is fascinating tho! 😊 Also, even if you paint realistically, it is still going to be your one-and-only work.
