What you need to do is set the truck up to have a charger pulled from an EV so you can use EV charging stations to charge your battery bank. Then use an inverter to provide power for your needs in the truck. Lots of free EV charging locations around to use topping off.

I've honestly had this idea in my head but didn't think it was practical but now you've convinced me to want to do the same. The only thing I'd worry about is the electric mower since it would take so long to charge if batteries aren't interchangeable. I'd also recommend you add solar panels to the roof or get a higher power alternator for your truck to save some power draw and would allow you to charge as you go

Just subscribed, battery powered equipment is DEFINITELY the future of lawn care and landscaping. I have a string triimer that is battery powered, it doesn't have a brushless motor rather it has a circuit board (I think it is lighter). I have 2 hedge trimmers one gas and the other battery. I always go for the battery one.

Hopefully next generation chargers will include options for charging batteries. I have an ebike charger with a toggle switch to charge with a current between 1-5 amps, and another toggle to charge battery 80, 90, 100%. It is well known charging li ion batteries to 80% will double their useful life vs charging to 100% every time, and overnight slow charging all your batteries would be better than fast charge toggling them. More efficient and gentle.
@QuietLawn
@QuietLawn 2 жыл бұрын
That would be a great idea. Not everyone needs a battery to charge in 30 minutes and being able to extend it's life would be great. Thank you for commenting.

@crimmy0204
@crimmy0204 5 жыл бұрын
@@QuietLawn you would have to consult some one who knows a lot about battery arrays, and the best way to charge them. Some arrangements of cells can handle fast charging better than others. The mower might be totally fine to fast charge, I just do it with my ego batteries because I was told it was the proper thing to do... less heat less stress, but the mower might be different and accept it better. also storing them at a proper temperature can help as well www.groovypost.com/howto/store-lithium-ion-laptop-battery/

@@QuietLawn Not sure on the large mower, but on the Ego batteries, the smaller black chargers are normal, and the larger ones are high speed. Black ones are either 200 or 320W, larger one is like 400 or 450. It would also help with not overloading circuit. You should be able to get 5 200W chargers on one circuit no problem, looks like you have a 12GA extension cord.

@@QuietLawn thanks. My biggest problem with Ryobi is with the batteries. I am fixing a lot of the 18v One+ batteries. The 40v are pretty good. I haven’t made a move away from Ryobi since I have a board with 3 chargers for each level (18v & 40v) and probably 6 40v & 6 18v. As far as batteries go, it is always good to one charged up and keep going. I don’t put them on the charger when I initially take them off to cool off. All the best. I wish you all the success in SC. @@QuietLawn sorry to bother you again. You are so nice to respond to us viewers. I am still pondering the EGO for a string trimmer replacement and also a possible chain saw. I really like the power of the 56v battery and the tool-less chain tension. My Ryobi pole saw takes a lot of unscrewing to tighten the chain. If I were to get a string trimmer I would still have my 21” Ryobi push mower and like I said the battery problems I have are more in the 18v line than the 40v line. So with that in mind, can you tell me how you decided to go with EGO when you started? The other tools you mentioned above like Milwaukee and Makita sounds good at the tool level. What I am asking is if you were to do it over would you still go with EGO? Thanks again for your responses. Who knows, next time I am in SC, I will buy you a coffee.

I like this idea. However, in terms of eco-consciousness, if you have to draw all that electricity just to get the equipment to operate, then how is your operation anymore eco-friendly than a gas powered operation at the end of the day?
@colormesarge
@colormesarge 3 жыл бұрын
Well, if you live where the source of electricity is the flow of water, then you've completely eliminated the burning of fossil fuels. Hopefully you understand that the Chattanooga River provides a large amount of electricity in the area where this guy lives. Also, it seems unnecessary to say this, but simply using electricity doesn't harm nature where burning gas does.
@xeridea
@xeridea 2 жыл бұрын
Even if electricity source is non renewable, it is more efficient to use electric tools than gas engines. Coal or natural gas plants are around 40-60% efficient. Gas engines 25-35%.

@@breandiesel1 Hey Joe, what blowers were you getting estimates for? We run Ego handheld blowers with 2 batteries for our mowing crews and that's only $600. As far as destroying our industry, I think that has much more to do with the thousands of people who get into this business that know nothing about running a business, pricing their work, etc. They undercut everyone and drive the market down on their way to going out of business. That's the biggest problem our industry faces and why many people can't afford better equipment. They're not charging enough. Regardless of how you or I feel about battery equipment, it's going to replace gas and probably within the next ten years. It's just going to happen. We might as well embrace it.

And I would like to add that the power equipment business is in total agreement with me on this and was the one who gave me this information so are every landscape business in my state. I agree battery equipment will replace gas power. my problem is it is be forced on us when it is still not up to par with gas power in price and power. In my state a bill has been proposed to ban the sale and use of gas powered leaf blower 2 and 4 stroke engines. I have a billy goat stander blower that I will not be able to use if this bill gets passed. And I do not see one available in battery operated. And if there is one it will more than likely be very expensive. I was at a trade show about 3 to 4 years ago and I saw a battery stander lawn mower 48 inch cut do not remember the company and the mower went for $20,000 to $25,000 verse a gas poweerd stander which went for $10,000 to $11,000.
