I freaking LOVE Keith's sense of humor. Sarcasm is a 2nd language in my family. To be able to use humor and sarcasm when talking about past tragic events is a blessing. It means you aren't hurting anymore. Keith obviously loves ALL of his children deeply. The man gets weepy at the thought of the kids leaving the boat life. Thank you for all the laughs!

As an Englishman the sarcasm and dark humour is well known to us. We use it in all kinds of situations with all our friends and family, and we all have a laugh about it. It's part of bonding for us and others around the world. The alternative is to mope around or be on eggshells, which isn't a good way to live.

Start making a plan, and don't be afraid to ask everybody to get a part time job to contribute to a fund -- one person can easily bring in a few thousand extra dollars per month by doing something as easy as delivering pizza (dinner time is most profitable). If you get 3 or 4 people doing that, $10K per month adds up to a used sailboat fund, really quick.

Over the years his political incorrectness has upset many folks who don’t understand that’s how we roll, my mother included. But he is my husband & I also possess that same dry humour & it goes both ways, it just isn’t seen by most folks. And for the record, I ran over my daughters foot when she was 11. And yes, 10 years on I too joke just like Keith does when she is dawdling to get in the car. Time heals all wounds, & laughter is the medicine we choose to use in those times. Thankyou for affirming that Keith had nothing to apologise for. Folks have forgotten how a strong marriage works. It involves a lot of banter. Also thanks for the Penne pasta bake recipe... Humour is just one emotion that we all go through in order to deal and cope with grief. It’s important to be able to process loss, that process being many faceted. It was used in the British forces constantly to help with highly stressful situations, without this process we would simply not be able to process it which leads to complications down the road. It can appear to be “dark” and insensitive, but it’s how it’s a perfectly normal human reaction, and important for individuals to accept and to use it. It’s certainly not for others to criticise those that use it, it’s not for them to judge. Please never apologise for using it. I wasn’t offended, I never would be. Thank you for sharing this with us, it’s very brave of you, but so important for those in that process that it is acceptable to use it. That things will get better, and that they are not alone in that grief. It’s part of life. Cherish the happiness and live your life’s to the max. XX

Please don't apologize for someone else's lack of understanding.. I can understand from their perspective, but they need to understand your's as well. I'm a nurse and believe you me we definitely have dark humor. I have seen so much over the years and have consoled many family members upon the death of a loved one after we did all the life saving measures we could or just a loved one that passed due to old age, etc. Even my own relatives. I performed CPR on my uncle at the hospital I worked at as I saw him take his last breath and my aunt was in the hallway wailing as I called a code blue while doing chest compressions. I recently performed hospice care for my dying step-father, the brother of the uncle I mentioned and I helped him pass without pain. In both of those situations I showed little emotion because it was not about me, but about them. Maybe that is because I have seen death many times, but also I wanted to support my family and be there, not myself. It is very difficult so humor helps us deal with those situations. It does not mean we do not have empathy or even sympathy. We often times grow very close to our patients and their families. I morn losses like anyone and losing a child for me would be the worst. I've always said we all have an expiration date, but we will certainly miss those that have passed. Love you all and God bless you and the naysayers from good old Ft. Worth, TX. Actually, I'm here in Kemah, TX as I'm watching your video on my sailboat hoping to get out there with y'all asap, but roadblocks keep coming up. Just had knee surgery ten days ago for example so anyway we will be "out there on the water" soon!

Renee - we call the times where people fend for themselves for meals “EMFH”. Every man for himself. So, I’m giving you my acronym to use moving forward. So all you gotta do is tell everyone, “Yo, tonight, it’s EMFH.” Now, Keith, I know you’ve done a lot of repairs and improvements on the boat recently but I’m always watching for that “Fix-It Porn”! Thanks to both of you as always for the amazing content. And Renee, just when I thought your photography and editing couldn’t get any better, it does. Those nighttime drone shots in the last episode were MAGIC combined with the music. Just beautifully done. Thanks for the opportunity you are giving all the kids on the boat! Yours included!!

Awesome video guys!!! I think it's funny that people say the kids don't get to interact with other kids. Just ask the haters if they let their kids have slumber parties for a month. That is incredible. I bet most kids in the US have never had a friend stay one night at their house. You all are so awesome for letting others get a taste of the adventure life. See y'all next time.

I led teams of people in a multinational corporation for many years and always preached: "feedback is a GIFT". Positive reinforces, builds confidence and motivates you to do more of the same. Negative causes you to reflect and think what you might choose to do differently in future. Don't let praise go to your head and don't be defensive when criticised or the gifts will surely stop coming. Listen, grow and develop. Hope that helps Renee.

If you're Ok and Keith is Ok, do not bow to the people who are so upset with their own emotions that they feel they have to change others. I wouldn't watch if you would have handled this any other way. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. Great Med Crew as well!

I'm sorry that some people requested an apology from Keith or an apology to you, anyone who has watched you guys for a long time already know his sense of humor and we understood it exactly as how it was intended. If people don't like it then don't watch. This isn't a scripted reality show folks, this is real people saying and doing what they please and we have no right to judge. Keep up the great content and please don't second guess your comments, we love you for exactly who you are. XO

Awesome how everyone gets along and shares in the responsibilities as well. If you do this again, it's going to be really hard to find another amazing group of young people to bring aboard. I haven't heard one negative comment from any of them! Much love to you all and continue to have a great time on board Zatara!! See ya next week!!

I like that you are always teaching - that makes my heart leap. Even when internet people have no business making comments about your (or **to** your) family sailing on the water half way around the world, you still set aside time for making a teaching moment from it. That's courage!

You don't owe anything to strangers on the internet! I appreciate your outlook on life Renee and Keith. Also i have a question for the crew if they'd like to answer, ive always wondered if you could have ANY pet to live with you on the boat (special boat animal that would be totally fine at sea) which would you have? Safe ttravels for everyone:)

I’m not sure why people are so quick to be offended. You were talking about something personal. Something incredibly painful for your family. All I could see was a man dealing with pain the best way he knows how. If Rene is all right with it, and so is Keith…. Why would anyone else be upset. 😊 you do you! Thanks for the episode.

Mama Renee, I feel compelled to comment (again...😅) I am grateful you took the time to share details of your family's traumatic loss. You needn't have, and it has no doubt cost you (again..). I amongst others am stronger for having learnt from your example that the darkest times can be experienced yet recovered from. The vast majority of viewers can also see the successful coping mechanisms you have all employed. Finally I must opine that it is not for others to comment on how a family survives traumatic experiences, better only to celebrate the fact they did. God bless you ma'am, you and your entire family owe apologies to no one. xx🤗🤗

We all deal with our past issues differently. Anyone who has watched your channel for any length of time, knows you all are good people. Trolls are going to troll, that's all I'm going to say. I love you guys and am thankful to come a long with you on your journeys. And I love how you keep your family running Renee, even taking care of these guests. You're awesome! BTW, milk is one of those grocery items we hate to run out of. Made many of midnight runs to the store to get it, lol. But then again, we're from Wisconsin and I'm pretty sure that our blood is 60% dairy!

In the 1970's I was a 17yo cook in the Royal Navy, on Aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal 1100 meals 3 times a day And again in the 1980's on carrier HMS Illustrious feeding around 1000 men three times a day. I'm very good at frying egg and chips.... Breakfast is the most annoying meal as there are so many things to bring together at the same time... Fortunately our food was all delivered by Helo when we were at sea... :) Your comments about humour and sarcasm, I'm with you there. Absolutely.

More episodes like this, please! It's great to see how much goes into the day-to-day living on the boat, and really getting to see what Renee doesn't normally like to highlight... which is how much she does behind the scenes to make sure everyone is happy! Also, anyone who has watched more than a few episodes of this channel understands how much Renee and Keith both love their family. I can't imagine the lengths that Keith and Renee would go to keep their family happy. For crying out loud, one of the reasons they moved their entire family onto a boat for so long was to make sure their family remains close... physically and emotionally. Keith doesn't owe anyone an apology for his sense of humor, and it should be obvious to anyone who has watched their channel that he uses his sense of humor to keep his family happy... NOT to hurt them! Lastly, if Renee had a problem with it... nobody should have any doubt that she would have handled it with him directly, and we'd never see Keith again 🤪
