When I was a kid, I really wanted to be a marine biologist... I concluded that I could never become one once I entered highschool, because I was really bad at math, and the sciences (mainly physics and chemistry..I enjoyed biology though). Though looking back, sometimes I wished I pursued it anyways (because if I'm passionate enough about it, then I can achieve it, no matter how much work it took).

@AzureAkita im pretty bad at inorganic chem but decent at organic chem. To be honest it will really depend on which field of marine biology you will be specializing. Im into fish population dynamics and fisheries management so i dont really deal with a chemistry problems right now. But if you go into say chemical or biological oxeanography or marine pollution, you may need your chem. But dont worry, chem subjects in school may be hard because its more on theory. But if you apply it in the real world its challenging but meaningful . Good luck buddy

My 4 year old wants to be a Marine Biologist; since she was a baby she had an unnatural love for water, even once when she nearly drowned at age 2 she still loves the water and being in it. Unlike most babies she was uninterested in the baby first tv shows, but could sit through a whole documentary about the sea. Her love for nature and water is uncommon for her age, and how well she’s remembered she the name of the animals in those documentaries is amazing. As her mother I’m just here to build on her interests and try to make her dreams come true, if those dreams shift I’m here for it, as of now it’s swim lessons, and aquarium visits.

This was one of my passionate subjects too; but sadly I went into banking for the higher pay. Now at 50, with multiple properties and a sizable networth, I constantly think about whether I made the right decision. I make peace with myself by saying to myself, I now can allow my children to pursue their passion when choosing a career, and not be dictated by society's common yardstick for success, which is how much money one makes.

Ever since I was 6 or 7 I would draw whales and sharks everywhere, I had a lot of books about marine biology back then and I enjoyed memorizing the Latin names of those animals and reading about their behavior, when I was in middle school I would do every school project about marine biology, now I'm in the last few months of high school being specialized in chemical and biological sciences, and every time a teacher mentions anything that has to do with zoology or marine biology I feel my heart beating faster than normal. I love it, and as I said, I'm about to finish high school but I don't know what to do because the only university where I can study marine biology is 4 hours away from my home and if I were to go there I'd get no sleep at all XD

Take a chance , make sacrifices do what your heart desires ! Experience new things whenever you get the chance! but most importantly never give up on your dreams no matter how hard they are to reach , I’m 22 I graduated high school 4 years ago I went to a community college for 1 year studying something I had no interest in because I constantly felt pressured at home, what I really wanted to do was work with animals and study to be a marine biologist just like you but I couldn’t because I didn’t have the money to go to a college that offered that program and I still don’t have the money to do so .I hate working retail and I am so sad that I can barely keep up with my bills and my chances of going back to college are minimal , what I’m trying to say here is if you have the chance and opportunity to go , go and don’t take life for granted I wish you nothing but success and I really hope from the bottom of my heart that you pursue your career (:

I used to love to research on the things I got interested in, like sharks, corals etc.. However my family and relatives said me to wait as they thought that I was saying simply and that I would change my mind soon. But now, I m in 9th, I really haven't changed my mind about it. I have learned soo hard till now, and I will continue to.. I just want to be a marine biologist like you! I love this comment section! I hope the people who followed their dreams to be marine biologists are happy. As someone who took a chance on a crazy dream in another country at 27 all I can say is DO IT. I had a panic attack on the plane to California. It was terrifying. Nothing went smoothly. Everything from shopping to bureaucratic stuff like immigration and paying bills was so different and frustrating to deal with. Then the dream job I went there for..went away. A few years later, I fell into a hobby that I used my marketing background to promote, and it was amazing. If you love what you do, it's never work! Don't settle because you are scared. Settle, or change course if the opportunity goes away. If you are scared, then go get that opportunity scared. It's worth it. 💯

This is my passion career, I've known that since I was 3. I've fallen in love with the ocean for the longest time, I find it so cast and I see it as a big mystery. There's so much out there that we don't know even exists that could possibly be dying from our own actions, and some of these might have inspirations for new technology or cures for diseases. The fact that there are people out there harming it, acknowledge it, and brush it off their shoulder and continue harming it, makes me sad, and helping something that I love so much endearingly feels good. That's why I want to become one.

Someday I wish I can have a job like yours! When I was in grade 2 my teacher showed the class how shark fin soup is bad. Ever since then I been reading books and looking online too see how manny types of sharks I can memorize. ( I memorize about 30-40 types of sharks out of 400+ ) I am in grade 8 now and I still want to know more about sharks! All I want to say is this video is inspiring me to keep on learning stuff about sharks! :D

I am a student in Amsterdam, I finished my bachelors in Bioinformatics a year ago, passed my premasters this year in preparation for my master in Freshwater and Marine Biology after summer vacation! I have always wanted to become a biologist and the marine field always fascinated me the most as I grew up on Aruba where I was surrounded by sea! I can only dream I will find such an amazing job as the lady in the video. Due to the many schoolhours I make and my high student debt I cannot afford to do volunteer work unfortunately. I really wish I had the opportunity to further improve my CV though and to properly learn how to dive. ❤

Our blue planet...it has been three years and I am still in love with that film. I'm now 12 years old and I have been interested in a bunch of things relating the ocean, I lately learned about oceanography. I have always been interested in animals, mostly sea creatures. I used to watch this cartoon called Octonauts where it shows a team that discovers, helps, and makes friends with sea creatures. I was just ok about it until I saw blue planet and that's when I wanted to know more. I thank you for making that film and I admire your work. I wanna be just like you when I grow up.

I recently just finished watching the "Blue Planet II" series on Netflix and I loved it because I found it very interesting and inspiring. Also, I have to make a decision on what do I want to study and dedicate my life to. After seeing that series I am starting to consider marine biology or environmental engineering as a profession because I am interested in getting involved with solving the climate changes that affect the ocean. I don't know if it is my passion and that scares me (mostly because I don't know if I'm going to be good at chemistry and all those classes I would have to take), but I would like to be in the ocean studying marine animals. It would be amazing, life changing and eye opening.

I’m watching this while crying, thinking if giving up my dream of studying sharks and whales is really worth it for financial stability, since where I live the options for this career are very limited. While I’m still very young, I’m in that stage in early adulthood in which I feel like my time is already over, somedays it gets overwhelming and I can’t help but imagine what my life could’ve been had i chose what i actually loved. Truth is I’ve loved the ocean and it’s creatures since I was a little kid, and when the “what do you want to be when you grow up?” question arrived the answer always seemed to be so obvious, but as i aged i found myself losing faith in my potential and ended up studying psychology, which feels ironic to some degree. I still love watching videos and learning new things about marine biology, i just wish i had the same sentiment when learning about my actual career. I’m still trying my best to enjoy what i do, but i’ll always know where my heart actually belongs. Sorry for the vent everyone, and thank you for sharing this wonderful video, keep up the good work! ❤

I’ve always had an interest in any animal, but especially the oceans, being mesmerized by the dolphins. I’ve always known I wanted to be a vet, wildlife rehabilitator, a horse trainer, or a marine biologist, but what really got me wanting to be a marine biologist was the first time I saw a humpback whale, when me and my family went to Seward, Alaska for vacation, and got to be on the open ocean for the first time in my life. I love all animals, so most of my life I spent wanting to be an exotic or livestock animal vet, but after that summer, I honestly can’t see myself pursuing something other than being a marine biologist. Now, ending my year as a freshman in high school, I have passed two years of biology classes with all As and one B, and chasing after that dream, but now all I need to do is decide which type of marine biology I want to do, as it’s all so fascinating, but all I know is that I want to be on the open ocean, a feeling that to this day, I still can’t get out of my mind

I’ve been in love with the sea since I was a little child. I’ve studied biology with a promise of specialising in marine biology. I ended up specialising in human molecular genetics and now I’m working in a biopharmaceutical company in London with the constant rainy weather . The reason was that i believe this would be more profitable for me. But I keep on second guessing myself watching this videos if I made the right choice. I just hope I get brave enough to follow my heart and go closer to the sea for which I love one day.
