Rice can be done in many ways, and each method can drastically change the final result. This oven-baked version comes out perfectly every single time. The rice is fluffy and soft, and you don’t need to worry about the rice sticking together.
Ingredients -
300g (10.5oz) - Basmati Rice, Washed
600g (600ml) - Boiling Water
Salt To Taste
Notes -
The water must be boiled; otherwise, the rice will take double the amount of time to cook, resulting in a poor product.

I'm hitting 70 years soon but I learned a new way to cook any variety of rice from a 20 year old guy at a Supermarket shopping with his mom. Do the usual prep , washing , etc then cook at VERY LOW FIRE FOR 25 MINUTES . WOW ! IT REALLY WORKS . I set the timer so I relax for 25 minutes. No burnt bottom, rice is fluffy, perfectly cook.

It's normally a 1 to 2 ratio. 1 cup water. 2 cups rice. But the finger method does work well. Once you learn it. It also depends on how you like your rice.

I can imagine that is a good hack. I soak my rice first. But cooking it in a pan has a lower base area and the steam will go through the rice to the top. Having a larger base area means the steam permeates more evenly through the depth. Hmmmm, will try it!!

This method works, cooking rice isn't a very complicated process and can be done in many different ways. But unless you're cooking a very large batch of rice and the oven is not really doing anything else (which seems unlikely, big gathering usually are the best time to cook something using the big oven), this seems like a very energy wasteful method of cooking rice.

Btw your recipe in the description says 600 g (600 mL) boiling water, but boiling water is less dense that eoom temp water, so 600 mL of boiling hot water would actuall way less than 600 g
@yvrelna
@yvrelna 2 ай бұрын
Water density is irrelevant. The density of water at 0C and 100C only differs by about 5%. Given that most people just eyeball their water anyway and the rice still came out fine, you'll need a much bigger difference to cause any noticeable difference when cooking rice.

What is the taste difference btwn basmati vs jasmine rice?
@yvrelna
@yvrelna 2 ай бұрын
Taste isn't very much different, the fragrances are slightly different, but they're both pretty neutral fragrance that will go well with most things. The big difference is in texture. Basmati is more firm and Jasmine is more sticky. You can't eat Basmati with chopsticks, everything will just fall apart; Jasmine isn't a very sticky rice, but it still has some stickiness so you can use chopsticks.

As a chef I’m glad to see that this method is being shown it’s the best way for when you need to do a large quantity of rice For the comments saying it isn’t how do you think you make 800 serves of rice the most efficient way that’s 4 x 10kg bags One steak oven 8 trays 30 minutes later boom If I saw some one in my kitchen pouring a bag of rice into a pot I would laugh at them it’s common sense in high capacity to do rice this way so many uneducated people boiling water would be for the steam since I don’t think many people have a steam oven but it would still work without the boiling water tbh Make sure you fluff it out tho very important as he said
@ChefJackOvens
@ChefJackOvens Жыл бұрын
Exactly right brother! Spot on. I used to do functions up to 750 people and it’s the exact way we did it. Like you said with the water, the oven isn’t a steam oven so the boiling water is compensating that factor. 👌👌🙌
