How do you determine sway bar length on a Jeep Wrangler?

One of the most commonly overlooked things when putting together a Jeep Wrangler Suspension Lift Kit is sway bar or stabilizer bar link lengths. These lengths can effect ride and suspension quality and need to be addressed when lifting a Jeep Wrangler.
While sway bar links dont cause death wobble making sure that your link adjustment length is correct is important.

Mine inverted today. It was terrible. Luckily it just got bound up on top of the drag link. I did have to smash them out. I’m looking for new ones today. I did not know it could invert. Great info. Thank you sir

So as I was thinking about this watching this video, it was making sense. As I’ve broke two stock rear sway bars. Not a jeep. And they may have inverted. But the more I think about it, the sway bar is trying to push back up, the opposite of inverting. Unless both tires are drooping. And in my case one was up and one was down, both times it broke. It actually breaks the sway bar at one of the frame bushings each time.

2018 JK sport with a superlift kit, bought used no clue which lift they bought, has a bracket on the axle that the factory 5" link bolts to making the link 9" in total, sway bar is level sitting flat on pavement, buying some new Links from a 4×4 shop that are non adjustable disconnects 12.5" long, they recommended, but it seems if I do buy them and install them it's going to push the sway bar up almost into the coil springs metal top cups, is this to high, eventually I will be getting a real 3" or 4" lift but that's probably a couple of years into the future

I have a 88yj and just took sway and track bars off. The ride was much smoother and only notice body sway in a turn on uneven road. I drive about 50/50 street/trail. Do you suggest even bother with a sway bar at all even with quick disconnects? I have a 4 inch lift and was not aware of inversion so glad I watched this video as PO didnt not make adjustments for lift.

Great video. Still a little over my head. I just bought my 1st Jeep. (2013). And it is lifted. (Not sure how much, guessing a 4 to 5 inch lift). My front sway bar is angled down a bit. I have yet to look at the rear. From what I understand you want it level to a slight upwards angle?. What adjustable links would you recommend?

I am new to Jeeps... Drove my son's Jeep brand new for a year in 2008 after the lift kit, she rode great . She's mine now and still original parts, recently I had an issue with death wobble which was taken care off, added steering stabilizer and other steering parts as well as new shocks, but I still feel scared,, she seems to float, sway, you have to be super attentive to the steering while driving on paved roads, she drifts a bit So many components watching your great video... any hints!! My next steps are new tires, they are still good, but no idea what else to do or where to look... Would appreciate a reply! TY

On mine , the sway bar is not flat to the ground but slightly pointing up towards the driver.. in other words 80 degrees because we ve put a lift kit, the rear stock sway link was moved to the front..but 6 months later i have replaced that with a quick disconnect....however i kept that angle slightly higher. The sway bar is not 90 degrees with the link but more or less 80 degrees i dont think it will ever invert .. Should i keep it in 80 or set to a perfect 90?

On my 2013 Chevy suburban I put a 5-1/4" welded in coil perch to get lift. I extended the stock sway bar end links by the same 5- 1/4". Now I have a problem with the driver side sway bar end link enlarging the hole at the mount on the frame. Any ideas why it's doing that or how to fix it? I was going to weld a thickened washer to the Mount so it stops enlarging.... however there seems to be a geometrical problem

Dr. I have a question. I just installed a Dynatrac 2.5" lift on my 2022 JL. This kit does move the longer rear sway bar links to the front. Once I had everything buttoned up, my sway bar links no longer align and I can't get the secured. The passenger side is about an inch too low from the sway bar, and the driver's side is the correct height of the way bar, but about an inch too far outboard. Any ideas on how to correct? Are sway bar links supposed to be perfectly vertical? Thank you. Great video!

What if they are too tall? Or can to talk be bad. I have a 2.5” lift and mistakenly (thanks to manufacture reps telling me they’d work but are not right height ) have bought a couple sets that won’t work. Now I have a set that I think could be too tall. They are rough country and for a 3.5-4” lift. Again rep told me they will work. But the sway bar is going to sit about 2 inches higher than right now ( now I have perf t angle. Just about an 1/2 inch above level with the correct sky jacker end links. These are no longer made is why I didn’t replace with them. Prob is the bushings are shot and again they no longer make that type bushing. So my question is how bad is it to have longer than needed. What’s about the max angle of one’s that are longer ?

Can you please tell me what angle the rear sway bar should be relative to the link? I understand that the front should be at or near 90 degrees (sway bar nearly parallel to the ground). Should the rear be the same? I have a 4.5 inch lift and I noticed the rear sway bar is pointing downward at about a 45 degree angle from parallel to the ground. Thanks!

@dr.deathwobble4899
@dr.deathwobble4899 2 жыл бұрын
Correct, because the MC system nets so much suspension travel (especially down travel) your sway bar angle will be quite high upwards. Which doesn’t hurt anything as long as it can move smooth and clear of obstruction. That’s a nice kit.

So you are saying having a longer sway bar link (the sway bar is angled upwards rather than horizontal) is a fine scenario to be in?

@MichaelCook1981 3 жыл бұрын
Yes 10-15° is fine.
@notice_fpv
@notice_fpv 2 жыл бұрын
Dr, I respectfully disagree. Sway bar link length is determined by your suspension travel, not ride height. If one has 10" of total travel, 5" up and 5" down, the links should be set so the sway bar is LEVEL. (equal travel both ways). MOST Jeeps have more down travel than up travel , so the links are set to angle the sway bar slightly up. The folks who invented the antilock sway bar go into the process in great detail... cycling your suspension, taking measurements, etc. TL:DR - The quick and dirty way is to hang the axle from the shocks. Then make sure the swaybar links aren't pulled tight. They should have a bit of a kink/angle in them so the swaybar can't flip the opposite direction.

Since the guy in this video can’t explain what’s going on I will. You have a greater thrust angle with your control arms. That increases wheel loads. Your cool spring should be compressed the same as when it was stock unless the shock are limiting rebound travel and creating a certain load number in the spring statically. Many many factors.
