What a coincidence that you upload a video for exactly what I have to tackle in my own house today on all four walls and the ceiling 😅 great video, thanks!

Wow a lot of hard work I could feel my arms burning just watching you do it lol. Wouldn't it of been nice if the customer had said "dont worry about taking the wallpaper off the ceiling just paint it white" 🤣 great job as ever cheers M

I had to strip back paper on one of my ceilings so that it could be replastered smooth, but I just don’t get why some people decide to paint ceilings a dark colour just like the room or something abnormal - it looks horrible and they even painted the ceiling rose blue 😂 still a good video as always, very informative and have helped me out in several situations.

How did you price this one? Did you allow for potentially having to line the ceiling? Wondered if you have like a set price per room and then add an extra day or two's wages if you think it could go over, or do you just charge this particular customer per day for your time? Only asking because I've had a few jobs over run, particularly on old houses where you don't know what you might find, and end up in the awkward situation where you have to then discuss it with the client so you get paid for the unexpected bits or take a hit in the pocket!
@PaintingandDecorating2 жыл бұрын
Thanks... depends on the customer a lot understand if you explain at the beginning. Anything you can not see before you start is unexpected to a certain degree.. when you know your stuff and stripped plenty it becomes a lot easier to price.. but everyone works at different speeds and and you can work 8 or 10 hours...

We bought a house last week and one bedroom has the entire lower half of the walls painted bright RED with a border of skeletons riding motorcycles. Even my eight-year-old son thinks it’s gross. I assumed it was paint (the inspection was time limited so I didn’t prioritise it) but maybe it’s wallpaper? It’s a 2016 build. When we take the keys the first job is repainting that room! I sort of like the skeletons but the red is nightmarish. Who paints red for their teen son? 😬

PVA... No!!! :( all was good till then. Will you use wallrock or 800+lining?

Massive effort - time wise wouldn't it have been quicker to sheet over what is there ?? In any event it will be a master piece once finished as it is being done by a perfectionist ! Cheers.

We started to prime our bedroom ceiling with Kilz after we moved into our new home. The paper started falling down almost right away! What a mess! We didn't know there was paper under the layers of paint. Good thing we had tarps down on the floors.

I have a 1929 old house with woodchip the scarring pad even struggles to get underneath then I use zinseer wallpaper solution with water on a garden spray wait 5min steam and comes off in 50p piece sizes and also has about 10 at least layers of paint over top any tips??
@neilspeers5578 Жыл бұрын
Its also on ceilings and walls .

@@neilspeers5578 how did you get on in the end? I had the same to remove from a Victorian house. Nightmare! Used a steam stripper which got some of it off, but in the end got the rest off with a sponge and copious amounts of lukewarm water.

Would it not just be easier to fill, sand, size and then 12/1400 lining paper/wallrock? (although not a fan of the latter, joints always need filling)it would save time removing paste filling, sanding, filling again, because despite good prep theres always more that needs filling, lining paper/wallrock would eliminate this and gives a much better finish surely?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator2 жыл бұрын
there's no need to fill joints on lining if you know how to hang it properly and butt joint them. I've never filled joints in lining. It makes more work, add a different surface finish to what the lining is as well, that can show when you paint it.
@lifeisforlivingfullstop91132 жыл бұрын
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I never meant the joints on lining paper Phil, i was talking about if wallrock was used as an alternative they would need it, ive been hanging lining paper for 25 years so i think i know how to do it by now 👍
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator2 жыл бұрын
@@lifeisforlivingfullstop9113 only 25yrs lol WallRock.. never filled those either. Do you paste the paper or wall with that, have you found it better one way than another. It does need tub paste as well.
@lifeisforlivingfullstop91132 жыл бұрын
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Yeah only 25 years...feels like a lifetime lol, We use tub paste for all papers mate, with wallrock ive tried it both ways ive just always found the joints never dry as butt up as lining paper does tho, its easy enough to hang but i personally prefer lining 👍
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator2 жыл бұрын
@@lifeisforlivingfullstop9113 Wickes tub paste ideal for it. WallRock does stop the cracks coming back though. It's so much easier to use than linen lining if you're ve ever used that?
