Loved this. But as a Greek, I must say that all these terms have greek roots, and they make total sense. For example, "syncope", comes form the word "συγκοπή" (sigopí) which means the sudden (but usually temporary) loss of consciousness due to cerebral ischemia. Fainting... Anyway good work my friend! You inspire me to become a nurse any time soon!
@RedT...TheOriginal.NotANumber
@RedT...TheOriginal.NotANumber Жыл бұрын
True. Medical terminology is derived from Greek and Latin. A large number of people speak Latin-based languages (eg: Spanish, French), so it's a little easier to grasp some of the terms. You being able to speak Greek makes it easier as well, but not many people share that advantage. Thanks for sharing the origin of "syncope"! I study word origins as a hobby (etymology), so I appreciate being able to add that one to my list.

@@coffeezombie6813 from what I understand one is an acute state another is a chronic state. Hypertension is a condition where you are continuously with high blood pressure. High blood pressure is a state, a certain moment of the day where your blood pressure is high. If you are doing exercise your blood pressure will rise you might be considered with high blood pressure but then it returns to baseline. Hypertension is when the baseline is still considered high blood pressure
@hUgO6191

@@melodyclark1944 think of it as exercise and heart rate. If you exercise your heart rate goes up. But then it returns to resting heart rate. Heart attack comes from an occlusion in an artery, while myocardial infarction is preceeded by ischemia (low blood perfusion) that could be caused by an occlusion of the coronary artery but it's not the only cause of an MI. So we can't say heart attack=myocardial infarction It could lead to an MI, but they're not the same thing. MI is tissue necrosis/ death of tissues.
