To answer that question: Of course they do! But WHY do they and HOW do they eat these tasty crustaceans? In this video, I show you how bass react to LIVE crawfish underwater in their habitat. I provide some great commentary, and I hope you guys learn something! Let me know what you think about the footage in the comments below!

Studies have been done. Bass were like 70% more likely to eat a crayfish with only 1 claw and like 80% more likely to eat one with no claws. I've fished my whole life and have noticed I don't do well with hyper realistic crayfish lures compared to something like a tube or ned rig.

Great vid showing what I've always believed... that most bass don't like craws with big pincher claws... except big bass, who aren't intimidated by big craws with big claws. I usually trim down my craw claws and/or sometimes take one completely off as well making the craw look weaker or unable to defend itself. Great vid! Thanx for sharing.

Tyler, I enjoyed the videos of yours that I've seen so far. It's interesting to see the fish's reaction after the crayfish is defenseless. Perhaps what you say about the artificial crayfish lures is true at least to some extent. Maybe I'll lop the claws off of a fake one to see what happens.

Loved it. It would seem that they are scared of the "claws". That makes me wonder if putting a plastic crawfish trailer on a jig makes it more of less productive. As you said though, this is on a bed and that make a difference. Bill Dance sure caught plenty of them with the crawfish trailer on the last episode that I watched. Might have took 2 weeks to film it though. :)

Well if it's spawning season and your dragging artificial crawls thru beds and a bass grabs your lure by the tail to move it set the hook like a gd fisherman. Cool video on seeing how bass have different reactions to prey.

When I first started fishing I used crawdads. My step brother told me to cut both claws off. I never questioned it. Don't know why I didn't. I always caught something though. Was always catfish that I'd catch. Definitely gonna try cutting off the claws on my soft plastics. If it works I'll finally have a use for all the craw baits that I set aside since I don't have much luck with 'em XD

What separates you from the rest of the fishing you tubers is that you are out to learn and understand how the fish live to make you a better fishermen. Good stuff man. I'm a very curious person like you and only keep my interest in something if I'm learning. Hunted many critters until I mastered them all. My current fascination is fishing. Your videos have come a long way from the Taylor Swift parody. 😉 Keep up the good work! This is your marketing edge that separates you from the rest.

Just an observation mate. The first time you threw in the bait the bass came over and checked it out. It realised what it was and that it was edible. So if it comes around for a second attempt then it would know it could eat it without getting injured and basically going in for the kill. The first time round it wasn't sure what it was and obviously didn't want to get his face pierced but the attack on it seemed to be a precision one. Great videos btw, I'm new to bass fishing and learn a lot from this. Thank you and take care

I have caught many many many Smallies up in Maine, and many of them have spit-up whole crawfish, claws and all in tact swallowed whole. Maybe the Largemouths have a softer pallet or something, but Northern Smallies have no issues with eating craws.

I think a trailer directs the bite towards the hook of the jig by default. It looks like pitchers so I'll bite the other end. We might be fishing these wrong as well. It looks like a constant but varying retrieve is how the crawfish appears to move naturally. What do y'all think

I will see if it makes a difference when I use one versus the other. Thank you for the idea. I will ty them on hooks size 12 so this is small anough to attract bluegills and crappie too. :-) :-)

I believe a lot has to do with the size of the crawfish due to location. Out here in the southwest the craw don't grow very big. And I to some degree exclusively fish with a hardbait craw and have caught lots of smallies and trout with them. The craw is typically smaller and the pincers are held together so that might make a difference. The crawfish you were using also seemed quite large.

I'm thinking a crawfish is easier to swallow if eaten tail first. Big fish love Blue Gill, but they can be harder to swallow than say, a shad, because of the spines on the fins.
@JohnVC
@JohnVC 4 жыл бұрын
The only thing that might improve this video was varying the size of the crawfish. I wonder if the craw was a little bit smaller or the bass a little bit bigger it would have made a difference. I have always felt like I catch bigger bass with a craw trailer, but the bites come a bit less often then say a T-rig worm.

So I guess the main reason why bass eat 🦞 baits is because the crawfish doesn’t put its claws up.
