You told me some stuff I didn't know before I think I now understand my fridge better! Newer fridges and freezers are a bit more complicated because they have auto defrost nothing to do with the motor I know but adds an extra complication to to the control circuit thanks again for the video

Hi! Thank you for your videos! I have already learnt a lot from them. The relay you showed was probably made in Hungary. "Gy. év:" stands for "Gyártási év" ~ year of manufatcure.

Thanks for info :). But it doesn't actually say any year of manufacture. I can only see "SEP" printed using some faded ink. It also says 160 menet, this probably means 160 turns.

Thank you very much DiodeGoneWild. You have explained the complex internal operation mechanism of the fridge compressor in a quite simple way making it very easy to understand. For how long should one leave the compressor on when using it to pump air, to prevent the motor from burning out?

Most modern refrigerators use R600a, that can be legally vented in to the atmosphere, the normal suction pressure is between about -0.3 bar to -0.5 bar so it's always in a vacuum when running.

Nice. I have a teardown video of a compressor. Now that it is in parts I am working on building a vacuum pump by modifying the internal connections. Still need to weld back and figure out what type of oil is needed.

I would not use the original kind of oil in it as another viewer stated it turns acidic mine still works only because i added a light oil to it every so often and it never showed any sign of wear or corrosion

you should also talk about POE oil used in this compressors. When exposed to air, it goes acidic and will damage the compressor.
@DiodeGoneWild

I'm not sure what oil does it contain but it still seems to work despite being unsealed for at least a decade.
@First2ner
@First2ner 6 жыл бұрын
R12 and R22 probably used mineral oil, newer ones like R134a use POE and the difference is, last one pulls moisture from air into oil and changes structure somewhat making it bad for internals

I would love to see the inside of th compressor and how it is lubricated
@edgeeffect
@edgeeffect 4 жыл бұрын
Most of what is inside is a huge iron casting, an equally huge induction motor, and a surprisingly small cylinder pump.... and a reservoir of oil that everything sits in.

i do enjoy your diagrams, funny and educational at the same time :-D. Thats a good combination :-D. I dont eat all the food in the fridge, mine hasnt much in it :o) I did sort of know how a fridge works, but its not something that i can repair so i didnt go deep into it. Heat dumping is the part i think of, the pressurised fluid loses energy to the outside air, then it passes with less energy to the evaporator to soak up heat energy from the fridge, the evaporator turns it to gas in the process, then back to the compressor. My crude understanding, dont shoot me for errors :-D.

Do you think the vacuum is enough to create a gas discharge tube?
@DiodeGoneWild
@DiodeGoneWild 6 жыл бұрын
It seems to pump down to about 80mbar / 8kPa / 0.08 atm. abs. You can make some discharge tube with this but it still requires quite some voltage to ignite... I will try to connect both in series for a better vacuum in the next video.

Does it matter to warn about refrigerants to atmosphere? There's a few countries that discharge to atmosphere such as Thailand. Recovery machines are non existant there. Or does every little help count?

Have you studied adaptive defrost? It is interesting as it learns how often to defrost evap coil based on how long or quick the ice melts off the evap coil via defrost thermostat. It then either adds time or subtracts time between defrost cycles from the total compressor runtime. This link explains well: www.appliance411.com/links/jump.cgi?ID=658

Taky jsem chtěl ten kompresor odmontovat ze starého mrazáku ale nechtělo se mi vypouštět ty freony z toho
@nothingnothing3832
@nothingnothing3832 6 жыл бұрын
Jestli je na tom kompresoru štítek, mohl by tam být i kód náplně, u nových (20-30 let starých?) už nejsou freony, ale jiné, méně ozonovou vrstvu poškozující plyny (např. R134a). I tak jsou ta chladiva plyny podporující globální oteplování.
@teslakovalaborator
@teslakovalaborator 6 жыл бұрын
Nothing Nothing Pravda. Calexky bych nevypouštěl ale R134a "pouze" podporuje oteplování.

Also not at mains frequency minus slippage. I know what you meant but a more naive viewer might interpret that to be 50RPM minus slippage.
@user-dw1be7zj6h
@user-dw1be7zj6h 6 жыл бұрын
Nope, chances are, if someone knows what main's frequency is, they would know the definition of Hertz, that is one cycle per second, not per minute.
@manickn6819
@manickn6819 6 жыл бұрын
Damn I don't know why that slipped me. I have to be getting too old. Good thing you pointed it out. I don't want to be putting out wrong information. Its still not frequency with slippage though.
@user-dw1be7zj6h
@user-dw1be7zj6h 6 жыл бұрын
Well, I actually went as far as fact checking, and turns out you're right, the rpm of an asynchronous motor depends not only on the supply frequency minus slippage, but also on the number of poles the motor has. Live and learn.
