Thank you Cody for suggesting this video topic! How does Lin Dan cover the push or drive serve return? This was very interesting to research and actually hard to find a good way to explain, but I think the video turned out pretty well. Hope you enjoy!

Love your detailed analysis! The more you watch the game, the more you notice just how much is going on. As a beginner you just admire the agility of these athletes and the fast smashes, but as you get more experienced over the years as a player/ coach you get to appreciate more and more the technical-tactical skills, the physical training behind them and the mental game :)

Hi Jeffrey, Thank you for the video. My guessing for Lin Dan doesn't cut the push half-way are 1. Opponents did a very fast and small deception. At 4:45 Lin Dan went forward a bit before goes back, then he lost mass center and miss the best jump timing. 2. At 4:55, he is leading the game, so he doesn't need to run fast. And you are right, he is confident about his hit quality.

Xiang yang. I think it is also because lin dan served to the sideline and usually it is very hard to return a straight push from that position. I think that Lin Dan wanted to surprise Hidayat but unsuccessfully.

For your last point on why 林丹 hit the back court shot late and out of balance, my understanding over watching him for many years is: he doesn't like to take rush steps to save a shot (like short distance running, in a sudden faster speed), he would either choose to do it with just his wrist power from a un-balanced stance, or a dive. I do the same thing so my guess for his excuse is that it is important for him (and me, lol) to maintain a certain rhythm in moving around the court. Love your post! [from a new subscriber]

Hi. Ur videos are really effective for learning subtle nuances that i never noticed before that higher level players do. Thank you. Can u please make a video on tips to judge if a high clear return would fall within or outside the courtline in doubles.

I think it's much harder to respond when I serve low and they lift to the back. I don't have time to get in position ffs!

Hi Jeffrey, i guess u like LD most, even me👍. Here is my question- when u analyze his game, most of the time u focus on his footwork, what about his forehand around the head shot, if u watch his game, in Backhand corner.. In his forehand around the head shot(check his setting posture)He lower his elbow which give his More back swing.. But in your game when u hit birdie in back court u put your arm+elbow high.. With your chest Open.. Could u analyze this in the next video..?

I think the reason why LD can be so good is the way he reads and anticipates the opponent, this can be shown from his footwork, many many times. He is not tall, and particularly fast, but his anticipation works very well to compensate his height.
@BadmintonwithJeffrey
@BadmintonwithJeffrey 5 жыл бұрын
I think LD is actually at a good height, he’s 5’10 I think. LCW is shorter too 😅 but I do a free that his anticipation is really good!!

can you please explain what are attacking lifts ?? and when to use them ?

@@BadmintonwithJeffrey if so, opponent will revert back quickly as they are flat... What is the point in use attacking lifts
@BadmintonwithJeffrey
@BadmintonwithJeffrey 4 жыл бұрын
@@sairamtejaakkiraju5894 Right, it's all about when you use it. For example, when you hit a net shot and your opponent rushes to the front, an attack lift will be really good because it would be too fast for them to cut off. If they're able to cut it off, you'll have to hit it a bit higher. If you watch my box drill video, you can see me doing a couple of attack lifts that move my opponent around :)

Nice video, but supinating is not rotating outwards, it is rotating inwards. Pronating is rotating outwards. For backhand one pronates first and then supinates after hitting the shot and for forehand one supinates first then pronates after hitting the shot
@BadmintonwithJeffrey
@BadmintonwithJeffrey 5 жыл бұрын
I think we’re just defining outward/inward differently haha I agree that backhand is probate first then supinate, and forehand is supinate then pronate. I think pronate is rotating inward because the thumb is rotating inward, towards the body.
