Well said my friend! I’m a Newyorican and really love Cuban rumba and culture. I’m so glad that Francis made these drums, and the haters can kick rocks with sandals on!!

Lots of those people are ignorant and haters and yes even from my two Islands of PR.and DR . Always trying to put others down instead of appreciating and loving the fact that another country loves their music and has more knowledge of all types of styles . I know Peruvians , Salvadorians , Colombians Mexicans that know more about our music and culture that our own people back at the island . Instead of hating we should be honored that you admire and love our music so much . Better yet you are a real master in percussion. . It doesn’t matter what country you’re from brother . We are all Latinos and we need to encourage one another. Always . Keep doing what you’re doing Eric . And please don’t listen to that none sense. Gracias maestro .

Cultural appreciation is not the same as cultural appropriation. The difference is in the purpose. When the purpose is to appreciate, celebrate and unite, it should be welcomed. If the Bomba rhythms are being celebrated all around the world, I don’t mind a company wanting to take advantage of that. I will let this clear, neither LP nor Moperc will EVER substitute an artisan made puerto rican bomba drum. But they might help spread our culture to new frontiers. That I commend, and I see no problem with that. On the contrary. Thanks Moperc for respecting our culture by creating this magnificent instrument. A drum that looks, not only to celebrate Bomba rhythms, but to insert the puerto rican culture into the world.

Many people don't know that Moperc is handcrafted, artisan made. Our small team consists of 4 young craftsmen and the owner's wife. The difference is that we're the only company taking this art to such level, making it possible to make more than 10 drums per week with the same artisan quality . We're not pretending to be better than anyone, but we are for sure the only artisan company in the world offering such variety and volume in the hand-drums market

Beautifully stated, brother. It's too bad some want to keep their light under a bushel rather than proudly sharing it with the world. Thanks for this!

TBH, I'm 🇵🇷 and grew up on the island. I'm a conga player and don't play as well, or I am as knowledgeable as you are. I do appreciate all of the content you post here on KZfaq. Dios te bendiga and your family. You just got to love it. Also, why specific countries take ownership of their sound. Most of our music comes directly from Africa, so let's just appreciate our culture and love for the art of music.

I know what you’re saying. I’m Irish and I’ve been playing congas, bongos, timbales, tambora, guira, etc. I’ve come across situations where people were not believing a “white boy” could play. I just had to prove myself. I’ve played with Eddie Santiago (bongo/conga), Moncho Santana (timbales), Charlie Valentin (timbales and recorded 2 LPs), Alex Leon (timbales) and others. Don’t let ANYONE tell you you can’t hang! Salsa y Que Viva La Musica

I'm glad more people are making bomba drums. Over 10 years ago it was impossible to get one unless you knew a guy who happen to make them. I hope moperc bomba drums have better heads than the ones lp used. Also I hope moperc is selling replacement heads . Lp isn't selling replacement heads for their bomba drums and it sucks.

Bro, THAT s the reason I bought Remo PR conga heads when they 1st came out! 😂 I am Chicano living in LA, "if I mess up they won't even notice because they will think I am Puerto Rican." That is my "blood on the doorpost" for playing salsa or any latin music lol

I was born in Mexico but I wouldn’t have been exposed to Afro-Caribbean percussion if I had stayed in my dear MX and not moved to the USA. I learned the strong history Mexico has in the development of Cuban music in the americas. Made me feel a part of it all. Anyways, I relate to ur story. Bendiciones.

What you stated about cultural prejudice differences unfortunately has existed as far back as when Jesus walked the earth. When you related to what you were personally exposed to, reminds me of another great percussionist Poncho Sanchez who was also not from the right Caribbean heritage. What these people do not realize is that they spend so much energy in trying to protect and hoard their musical culture or being appropriated, that they miss the true joy of sharing this treasure with others. Being a Puerto Rican who was born in the multicultural City of New York, l personally experienced the pleasure of many musical cultures trying to preserve and share their ethnicity with others. So what you do and so many other musicians like yourself, is you learn, appreciate and expand your musical horizons to create your own style of expression. YBlC

People getting mad about appropriation don’t even know what appropriation is. Those same critics would be JOCKIN Ruben Blades or Santana if they met them in real life. 🇵🇦 🇲🇽 🇸🇻

Id like to say something. It seems to me that what people call Latin Percussion or Latin Music is really and in all actuality Afro Carribean percussion and music and feel when we use the term latin it negates the African History these instruments and music all have.
