Our wood is stored inside. When we receive the bundle, it's cut outside the same day and leave it in the shop for 2 weeks before starting the process.

@@franafrokan Oh. That makes more sense. You guys must work really hard to keep that shop clean. I spent some time as a student, making ashikos. Everything was hand sanded and scrapped after glue up. We all wanted a lathe, but the "boss" said he didn't believe in shaping on a lathe. (It was also cheaper for him since student labor was free :).

Imagine when we started more than 30 years ago, in a small town with about 100 inhabitants, no internet, in the middle of nowhere with a lots of snow and temperatures hitting 30 below zero in the winter !

Hello! Our slabs are flat cut, our staves are quarter sawn. We don't work against the grain and the result is a better stability than steam bent. But you are right that wood grain changes along the staves, but anyway, we have better results on woodturning shells made with this technique rather than steam bent. 6-8% is the accepted moisture content of kiln dried lumber here in North America. The real stabilization of the cells happens as the lumber is brought down below 8%. We have extreme humidity changes here, if not controlled, it can vary from 30% to 80% in our shop and into most people houses. Opening windows on humid summertime days, heating full blast on winter time. Outside temperature also vary from -40 to +40 Celsius. We do our best to stay around 50% of humidity in the shop. Perhaps Eric was suggesting that comparatively speaking, Moperc is the better choice for the long run. The end of the video explains many reasons why this is true.

The most expensive Lp costs almost the price of the cheapest Moperc, and yet that Moperc is still way better

What Daniel stated is exactly what I meant… not saying don’t buy an LP… go ahead… but if you’re going to spend that amount for a drum… might as well invest in a Moperc which is made with actual solid stave wood and stainless steel hardware… speaking from someone that has owned LPs most expensive congas… 5 of them actually…

Except this type of video and tour isn’t for people “in the know.” This is to educate the new consumer about the hand-crafted process and its benefits over mass production. Just because it isn’t for you it doesn’t mean it’s invaluable.
