When I started this game I believed all the toxic stuff about arty being evil and the scourge of all life. Only started playing when I had to do missions and to my shock found I actually liked it and was just getting good at playing them when WG screwed the whole class by removing the ability to cause damage, or even hit anything. So mostly stopped playing them, which is a shame as they used to balance all the OP reward tanks which stopped hull down tanks farming everyone else. So those fun days when numerous heavy tanks used to huddle together and you could damage the lot with one shot are sadly a past memory.

Hey Claus - A very chill commentary today, much in keeping with SPG gameplay, as you say. Ever since I got interested in tanks and armored warfare - just after the introduction of the Mark 1 - all the sources said the top parts of a tank, especially the engine deck, were the least armored and weakest compared to any other location. The Wiki says that US 155mm arty rounds have about 22 lbs (sorry - 9.98 kg) of high explosive, overall weigh 100 lb (45 kg), and have a muzzle velocity of around 2,000 ft/sec (609 meters/sec). So you have a 100 lb shell hitting the weakest spot on any tank, at maybe 1,000+ ft/sec (maybe just SOME kinetic penetration, ya think), and then 22 lbs of high explosive goes off, doing virtually NO damage, or so little damage as to be insignificant. That's partly why I won't play arty; when I pull the arm of the slot machine I like better odds than that.

I play SPG’s when the daily missions ask for critical hits(and it happens a lot). I have the French but with the new mechanics and the new warning of incoming, the Obj 261 is the only one I play because it’s low trajectory is more accurate and doesn’t give them time to get out of the way.

You were discussing there being no splash damage like there used to be. The only time I see indication of splash damage is if my tank is below a certain level of HP, then suddenly a shot not terribly close is lethal. Also, I've seen a few post mortem animations where the kill shot has gone through terrain, or the physical shell would have been deflected by terrain. WG just makes it up, as you said.

I like playing my TS-54 & I've noticed quite often, if I fire both guns at a tank, I do less damage more often than not than if I just fired single shots. I've also by pure luck, fired both barrels at an EBR & hit it, yet no damage, critical only but not the wheels. And when WG says you're not going to win, they really mean you're not going to win by making you miss your shots by having them land anywhere but the centre of the retical, or you don't pen when you should & the enemy snap shoots you & takes out your gun, gunner or damaged ammo rack. I've even had shots pen me & take half my HP from ISU-152s that shouldn't of penned me because the shell shouldn't of been able to pen with how I angled the tank, a bit like skimming stones on a lake, the angle was tight, literally a few mm of exposed side plate & at range, pen... I've played for years both Wot & War Thunder, WT for me personally, Wot because my kids like me playing with them so I get the best of both worlds training to play the game. And I've noticed over the years, a progression of making the game as difficult & tiresome to achieve anything unless you play with premium, spam gold & use premium tanks. I also want my WT Auf E100 back, seeing as the reason they removed it was a lie, because if it was about game balance, they're the biggest hypocrites ever with the relentless OP premium tanks & all the EBRs you can't hit to save your life & a gun that shouldn't tickle you, but yet pens you like a hot knife through butter.

most of my games were in SPG, fire and move for me, then the shells went to shit and did nothing worth playing, I tried a few tracks but gave up on the game. it's just a pain to try to have fun.

Recently, my Bishop/FV304/Crusader 4.5" gun had WG 'Average' damage stat of 450. I appreciate pen is low, but hitting most tanks gave me anything from 0-140, even on turret top or engine deck. Even with things like D.Max, St Emil & Hellcats into their crew compartment, biggest HP damage ever was 405.🙄🙄 So, not only can the damage be made up, it can also fall well below published stats.

I enjoy playing artillery however the inconsistency is just frustrating. One game you will hit accurately the very next game same tank artillery you’ll miss by a country mile no matter how long you aim.. Plus the low roll when you do hit or damage is ridiculous. Most artillery shell hit from the top downward the weakest point of most tanks.

The tier X Object 261 & B-C ’58 are crown jewel SPGs. Stuns, blown tracks, arcade mayhem…

I like the T10 French arty. Lots of ammo, so the trick is to keep the gun firing throughout the entire match, nonstop. Go for stuns.

SPG DAY is EVERYDAY..... It's the only way to be sure the cat comes back..

Of all the T10 tanks I’ve sold, I’ve kept 2 arties, the Russian 261 and the French auto loader although it is next on the block. Fact is, its shots bounce on most T10 HV and TD tanks and its dmg is ridiculously low considering the 45 seconds reload time. WG nerf’d arties to make them practically pointless in high tier battles.

I read a WW2 tankers book. He drove a Cromwell. A German artillery rocket hit his tank. All it did was knock the grille off his engine deck. I'd say heavy armored tanks should take little to no damage from artillery.

love my BC155 58 not for the damage , but it is so a pain in the ass for red players with multiple stunning in a small time

I play in NZ. I have an excellent connection but have to play on the Asia server (Australia server is a waste of time). As a result I have shit ping and low frame rates so play a lot of SPG as it doesn't require a lot of movement usually. I like the GW Panther and am over 50% win rate so happy.

I love when my shell hits a gun mantlet of a HT and do ZERO dmg, but when shell explodes couple of meters before its front it does 2xx dmg :) I never forget when I hit Matilda LVT with Hummel top gun THREE TIMES IN A ROW in a mantlet without any damage 😄🤣😂

Biggest Arty tip, aim at non Russian tanks for good damage. Otherwise it's a 2s stun and 16 damage. Sad times.

yeah,. they more or less pull it out of thier asses,. and if you pay them they'll dig a little deeper. On top of that I've noticed that,. the gun handling on alot of U.S. tanks has gotten worse. If I take my M12 out( yeah, I know tier 7) most of my shots even go as a far,. to not even be in the dispersion circle,.( no damage for you?) if there is anything in the way and 3 dispersion dots cover it ,. It will hit what ever is in the way builing, side of a hill etc. I just wonder what kinda of tweaking WG gets up to, in the fine print for "FREE" to play players. I'll add and then,.. Here Comes a UNICRUMB with his advice saying," I should learn the fundimentals" My answer is usually," Fundimentally the game operates on how much you pay them.".

IRL any artillery round hitting a tank would destroy it. Thinnest armor (1-2 inches) on a tank is the top. If a 400 lb. artillery round drop on a tank, it is going through and fully destroying that tank. AND NO we know it's not real, but if your basing a game on real locations and real tanks, then make the mechanics real. If going for realistic, be realistic. Don't "Cherry Pick" what aspects of reality you want, be REAL. Anyhow, Rock on Tankers 🤘😎

Earlier today I had a game with M46 where the E100 hit me twice with 700+ and 400+ and I die from the second hit. I calculated the damage and it was around 1400+ but my HP is 1800+ where's the 400 go? I'm pretty sure I still have 800hp left after the first shot. WOT nowadays are so buggy after the micropatch.

I had a match in tier 8 I won that game but I was killed by a player. And after the game in the report show me that player had 0 shoot but he shoot me 2 times

FV304 does not have splash damage, only one shell type, and unless fully aimed on a stationary tank it will troll you!

Finally graduated from the Claus school of reverse cult brain washing experience. I no longer have any wot+ subscription nor buying any tanks etc and so forth, the final straw was getting the Skoda T 56 and despite having many good premium tanks only after getting this tank didn my rating start to move and I have won more than 60% of games with the tank in 100 games.

Arty has been doing a LOT of 1 hp damage rolls. EBR with 2 hp left getting damaged for 1 HP. What is worth 1 HP. Wargaming says it's Latency Compensation. Their go to excuse.

Way I heard it back in the day was a lot of 'very good' and 'above' players (in the UK and NA) who loved sitting behind their favour rock, also including alot of Russian players who give the most money to wargaming complained so much that wargaming that they nuffed arty into nothing. The issue I have is that historically Arty is counter battery to tanks in WW1 & WW2 and onwards. Classic case of money talks and wargamming executives adding extra level of sponge to their sunbeds. And yes I remember the video explaining what splash damage did. Wargamming are a bunch of c***s - fill in the blanks. 🙂

His icon is blue because WG count friendly splash stun as team damage. It merely serves the idiots who just are desperate to hate artillery more. If you play a lot of artillery then you will unavoidably splash and stun your own tanks building up your average friendly stun until WG makes you blue.

HE rounds have PD (Point Detonation ) fuse.......they don't bounce..... VT fuse is not used against ARMOR......

Fully aimed and the shell fall outside the circle/oval or a direct hit on a tier one or two higher and 10 hp of damaged is caused... sorry, but IRL, if a 155mm shell explodes nearby a tank, let alone a direct hit, it would evaporate the tank, but I get this is a game, still, the reworking of damage from a large HE shell should not be 1% of the tank's HP.
