@@hafizmazuki2443That's funny because playing MH actually made getting into DD easier. I barely played it back in 2017 when I had it for the 360. I just got it again, for the Switch this time, and I have been exploring and fighting ever since. I've killed like 7 Saurian clusters and like 7 climbable monsters. Oh and I have the skulls of Death Lords, so I've apparently killed 2 of them as well 😂

You forgot to mention the (rather hidden and confusing) inclination system for pawns that governs which type of actions and behavior they will prioritze during exploration and combat. It has a huge impact on their performance and utilization of class specific mechanics. It even governs the distance they will keep to the player and enemies. Often it is more beneficial not to fill up every ability slot of your pawn so they concentrate more on positioning rather than ability spam. The type of augments you equip on them changes their behavior as well. Also, the size/weight of your arisen/pawn has an impact on stamina usage/carry weight/knockdown resistance
@franzukato2822
@franzukato2822 4 ай бұрын
This is what other people that don’t like this game and says the pawns are dumb or misunderstood a little bit of pawns learning from you which is also a factor but it all resides in my opinion on those inclinations which also goes in a point system the more you do something and use that command that will shape your pawn and they don’t understand that not that I blame them it was like monster hunter way back it doesn’t explain it to you hahaha 🤣

I think the biggest problem is most ppl look at the pawn system like any other rpg npc where we have a follower/companion. Being just a npc there to fill traits our mc lack or jut there to carry all our burdens. Which might be true for the pawns we hire but not for our main pawn. Main pawns are really like the story suggests. They are empty vessels that take on the form of their Arisen. We train them through our actions while manage their behavior with the skill, augment and inclination we give them, as well as their personality when we use the knowledge chair. This is why I highly recommend ppl to keep their MP vocation similar to their Arisen vocation and hire other pawns to fill criteria their team might need. This also helps with training and gearing of MP since they mimic our actions and can wear our old gear when we find better gear. Though with DD2 I suspect that the pawn system will be way more advance and will learn to complement our play style rather than just mimic it over time.

the reason why the game felt unfinishd and had alot of missing content is because the devs had some many ideas with very limited technology back then and out of all the cool ideas that were cut off the gameplay and pawn system were the only thing that shows how great that game was gonna turn out to be if its was completed in 2012..and now dd2 is looking to be a complete version makes me super hyped
@TheLigon27

roughly 60% of the game was cut do to budget , time and technical difficulties. It’s the main reason why there not many poi and why the ones that made the final cut seem empty. Ppl bash on the traveling in the game but it was suppose to have plenty of poi to balance not having fast travel at the start of the game. You can see this with all the unusable camp sites scattered around the world also with how some npc leave the village or the city to go home to houses that aren’t there and just fade out the game only to return the next day.

So many games should take notes from Dragon's Dogma! Like layered armoring! So many games have a 1 piece suit of armor and then helmet 🤷🏻‍♂️ DD does this differently and I absolutely love it and how you can see chainmail from under a chest plate etc. Cannot wait for Dragon's Dogma II 🤩

I've gone back to it multiple times over the years and each time I'm glad to see the gameplay holds up incredibly well. Not too many games I've gone back to can do that. The combat is phenomenal and carries the whole thing, but since the combat is such a selling point it makes the vocations / party composition really shine for replayability. Try a class you've never played, use a wacky comp like 4 warriors, try pawns vocations you've never considered etc.

The combat in this game beats out so many modern fantasy combat. They have had years to work on other combat heavy games that have been praised for the fights. If they can grip us with a better story, even a little, then it might be a strong GOTY contender

The Pawn system is probably my favorite thing about DD. It's a mix between a power fantasy and parenthood/masterhood feeling. Your main pawn starts as dumb as most AI companions in any action game. But the more you teach them, and the more they observe and imitate others, the more "human" they become. Which is actually one of the things tackled in the story of DD1. They learn how to properly fight, they use skills and items more efficiently, or they just spend their time collecting every item around because the player is a looter. And you can sorta see other players' progress and a hint of how they play through their pawn when you rent them. It's not perfectly implemented, sometimes you do actions that teach them something that you don't want, they have limited range to engage in combat, your commands not always correlate to the action you want, they sometimes hurt or off themselves due to bad path-tracking (which also happens to enemies), and some other small issues that keep adding up. They're like Smash amiibos in an Action-RPG setting, but without the need for physical figures.

I absolutely love the combat in DD. It's fun and engaging. I get bored with button mashing combat and like something you need to think through and plan your attacks. I fought a Cyclops in the woods, but before that I cleared out all enemies in the surrounding area so no one would distract me. I was able to focus just on the Clops and cut him down rather quickly lol. I quickly became a Cyclops killing machine with 4 dead in 2 outings, plus an ambush by a Chaimera as I was coming down the mountain from my 3rd Clops fight. This game is so fun

I still can't believe that we are getting a sequel for this game after 12 years. Personally I'm not really concerned about the gameplay since it's already very good in the first game. But I would be so happy if they improve the inventory and UI in general, fast travel, story, stamina draining when not in combat and the need to change pawns every few levels. If they do that and not mess up anything that was already good in the first game then it'll have a VERY good chance to be the GOTY of 2024 and sell like Elden Ring or BG3.

My older brother and I grew up playing the original Dragon's Dogma back in our early High School Days. It was one of the first PlayStation 3 games we ever owned. (Eventually for Xbox 360 as well) I really can't even begin to explain how Blown Away we both were by the expansion of Dark Arisen. I'm so grateful my brother and I decided to check out this awesome underrated gem in its early days. It's just really a true shame that the same can't be said for countless others. I really do hope that Dragon's Dogma II gets far more recognition attention and much better treatment this time around. Because this is a open world RPG series that Capcom should promote far more! ( I really hope in the next Marvel versus Capcom game the Arisen could be a playable fighter! I've wanted that for so long now) I've been playing through Dark Arisen again as of late and it just makes me appreciate what this game accomplished even with its lower budget and shorter development time . Dragon's Dogma truly is a fantastic series.

I’ve vaguely heard of this game off and on since it’s release, and it wasn’t until recently around the peak of the pandemic 2020 - 2021 that a friend recommended me this game and explained why he loved it, and it was at that time where I was starting to get into RPG’s a lot more. So I tried it out and once I did, I never looked back. While I do have the same criticisms as you briefly discussed throughout the video there is no denying the stellar gameplay that was indeed way ahead of its time. And now I couldn’t be more hype for the sequel and I really hope fans of the original get treated well including myself when this game launches, but I also hope newcomers will be introduced into the series and feel the same way as us fans did of the original. The best part of DD 2 is that while graphically better it still feels and looks as well as more than likely plays like the original and that is the best possible way to do this sequel. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. ☺️👍

When it dropped; the original Dragon's Dogma had heavy competition from both Dark Souls and Skyrim, and I think that was part of the reason that it took so long for word of how good it really was to spread. Sure, it's very rough around the edges, but it's no worse in that regard than either Skyrim or Dark Souls are (especially Skyrim). Hell, I enjoy it enough to have had multiple PSN accounts solely to start a new run in Dragon's Dogma. I think it's always been a rough-cut-gem, and I'm actually glad to see it finally getting the attention it's always deserved.

I played the game in ps since the release, when dark arisen came out, sometime between 2012 and 2023 and then last year when it was on sale. One thing i realized, i never liked any other similar games than dragon's dogma. I played a number of souls games, kingdoms of amalur (since it was mentioned in here), i tried oblivion, final fantasy games, and so much more but nothing stood out really if we talk about rpg. This may be an exaggeration because a lot of very good games and better games came out after but as someone who loves medievel high fantasy games and films like lord of the rings, dd is best rpg of all time in my opinion. When asked what's my favorite game, it has always been dragon's dogma (and will always have a special place in my game catalog) apart from dragon age and other games on a different genre.

The open map is linear and empty. Furthermore, the quest system is very weak. The pawn system, in my opinion, is terrible, as the player has no control over them and always needs to switch to pawns with a higher level. In the end, although I see the beauty of this game, these negative characteristics prevent me from actually playing it, in the end I end up with good old Gothic 2

I am of the opinion that the reason why followers are typically not too capable in most games. Is that doing so would become an additional layer of difficulty balancing. Things like FFXII Gambit system prove that if developers wanted to, they could have a.i play optimally at all times, using specific flags to trigger behaviors. But instead you're given the tools for refining what your companions do, tools that expand over the course of the game. Why doesn't Barrett use thunder in the first boss fight of FFVII remake without your input? Because if he did, player agency would be removed, and that fight being a tutorial for exploiting weaknesses, wouldn't work.

The thing is.. the first game is still a next gen right now, in the sense that no other game, no other *franchise* has reached this level of quality, in their respective genres. NieR? Not even close. Halo? Not even close. And don't get me started on actual ARPGs out there. Amalur? Great game.. but, compared to DDDA? 😅 No contest.

I was recently watching new players play dragon's dogma and 90% of those players asked why this game has no targeting or lock on , It really confused me. I found out most are dark souls players and they were used to that kind of game play. They should play easy mode in my opinion because that is basi ly easy mode. LoL

Two handed weapons suck. You think they'd be more rounded out since you fight huge creatures but I guess that's why it was ahead of its time lol

I don't think they suck, but the warrior vocation is the worst, that's for sure. Even so, I played the most as a warrior with a 2h sword.

The only thing Dragon's Dogma 2 needs is better writing and characters, DD1 is great but damn the storytelling was bad, if it was as good as DA:O it would be one of the best RPGs of all time.

I think DD is an unfortunate mix of a great combat system and AI with an awful boring story and an empty dead world with much too long walking distances. I tried to get through it several times but it bores me to death. Shows developers should be aware of a well balanced mix of features in a RPG.

My man, Dragon Age Inquisition came out in 2016, and it has the most garbage NPC AI, even worse than Skyrim, your companions can't do anything right, especially on higher difficulties, it basically becomes nanny simulator, the system in Origins, was soo much better.

It used to really piss me off when people referred to 7th Generation consoles as "Next Gen" well after they came out. Hearing it still sometimes re-opens that old wound.

It's not a useless term, it's just so overused, it almost lost it's meaning. Like I said in the video, the majority of people think of graphics, when they hear "next gen". But If/when a game introduces features or mechanics which could be considered as genre defining, the term next gen makes a lot more sense.

3:58 this is such a weird thing to say. The reason Demon's and then Dark Souls took off is because it ended that period of games with nonexistent gameplay, paved the road for the golden years of indiegames and made games like Dragon's Dogma, Horizon, Outer worlds etc. possible. If not in terms of gameplay then because they proved games didn't need microtransactions to turn a profit. Demon's Souls popularized real gameplay (again) and ended a dry spell. You may not like it, but you owe it a good amount of respect.

Dragon Dogma had great ideas but terrible presentation and execution. The game doesn't even have lip syncing. Which was pretty standard by the time it was made. All the systems needed to be way more fleshed out. They should have made part 2 years ago though. I also think saying Skyrim overshadowed it is wrong. Skyrim had more fleshed out and streamlined system at the time. Making it way easier to get into and play. A lot of people forget all the improvements Skyrim made to Elder Scrolls. Dragon's Dogma failed because it was very flawed. I do agree that modern should have took and improved on Dragon's Dogma mechanics. But those mechanics sucked in Dragon's Dogma. Climbing was cool but very awkward because it changed your direction controls. The character height and weight gameplay mechanics are never explained in game. And the pawn talked way too much. I really hope they improve these in part 2. All the trailers at least show they realized why the first game failed.

I can't stand the ass sniff RPGs where you have AI sniffing your anus on every footstep. I finished Dragon's Dogma with only 1 follower which if I remember correctly was obligatory. I also played it on hard mode from the get go and found the balance as a ridiculous sponge fest. Overall I do believe that this was one of the most overrated games of our generations. It had nothing going for it apart from the flashy combat. Boring and bland world, extremely shallow questing and an uninteresting story. It was poorly received upon release for the same reasons but somehow half a decade later people started praising it like it's the spawn of God himself. for whatever reason.
