As a licensed mechanic and former courier, I have a few things to comment. First and foremost, change your oil every 5000 miles. Your owners manual might suggest longer but your vehicle operates in what's called "severe service" and in city stop and go travel most of the time. Oil is the least expensive thing you can do to keep your engine running. It's the lifeblood of the car. Next, definitely get the wheel bearing(s) done before they fail completely and cause an accident, an accident you would be held liable for because you were warned the bearings were going. Motor mounts can likely wait but when they start loudly clunking when your shifting from park to drive or reverse, get them fixed. Thirdly, find yourself a retired or backyard mechanic that can do 80% of these jobs for you for less than half the cost of whatever shops you're currently using. A good back yard mechanic can be worth his weight in gold so if you find one treat him well and he'll save you a fortune. I still do auto repairs for a few old customers in my garage at home (I had a lift installed and have all the tools I could ever need) and the way I bill them is at $50/labor (shops around here start at $150/hour, I generally don't charge a markup on parts I supply and If the customer can wait a day or two I can usually get the parts for half of what the average repair shop charges (their markup is usually around 100%). If I'm unsure what to charge I'll have them get one or more estimates from other shops and I'll do it for 75% of the estimate or less, almost always closer to 50%. You could also consider learning to do some of the easier maintenance yourself and save a few bucks that way. Also, who does your taxes? Most of this stuff should be a write off anyway. When I was a process server my vehicle payments, registration, insurance and all maintenance was a write off. Anything I ate while working was a write off. Clothes I wore to work were a write off. My cell phone and it's monthly bill were a write off. A good accountant saved me paying $40K in taxes I almost paid but didn't have to. You're correct about sticking with Honda, it's the only manufacturer my wife will buy and they've never let us down. We have five vehicles between us and they're all fancier, cooler, sportier, faster, more luxurious etc etc but when we go on a driving holiday of any distance, we're taking her Honda baby! About five years ago were drove her 1996 Accord with 400k on it from Northern Alberta Canada all the way to California along the coast and I never worried about the car having problems at all. I maintained it well and it would still be our road trip go to car but it got stolen and she ended up getting a 2018 Civic. I'd hop in it tomorrow and drive it half way around the world without fear (well, I'd fear my wife. She'd be pretty pissed if I took her car halfway around the world one day out of the blue without her) Try to avoid the CVT transmission if at all possible. I've been looking into Amazon Flex here to kill some time ad earn some dough when I retire

Eddie brother, you gotta open up your mind a bit to new information here. Frequent oil changes and maintaining proper fluid levels is like the #1 thing you can do to prolong the life of your car and avoid so much (easily preventable) damage/excessive wear on your engines internal mechanisms. The technology in todays engines and motor oil is absolutely not the same as it was 50 years ago. There is so much scientific and engineering based research put into the development of motor oil these days it's incredible. So there is absolutely evidence based reasoning behind car manufacturers recommending regular oil changes. Even with modern oil, the fact of the matter is, the stuff has a pretty short lifespan. It's designed to do a damn good job at its intended purpose, but after a certain amount of time, it just simply doesn't work as well as it used to. On top of that, there's the inevitable addition of contaminants & other crap getting mixed up in your oil that you don't want to have constantly hurting your engines insides. Think of it like this. Your body needs fluids to function. That fluid you drink serves it purpose of hydrating your insides so you can function. After a while though, that fluid is no longer able to give your body the hydration it needs, so you have to flush the old, and replace with some fresh new fluids. Not only are you emptying out the old fluid that is no longer hydrating you, but theres also plenty of other nasty shit that you don't want building up inside of you that gets cleared out at the same time. You wouldn't walk around holding in the same pee for months at a time would ya? Don't be stupid. Change your oil. On that same notion, just ignore marketing tactics like "long lasting" or "high mileage" crap on some motor oils. That part of "modern oil" is just bullshit that you'd be right not to trust. Just stick to the big names like mobil, castrol, quaker, and buy whatever is on sale that matches your cars required spec. It's really not that expensive and you'll save big money in the end I promise you. Learning to do it yourself is easy, and it's basically free at that point.

Not to mention, oil (and all oils) with lots of mileage become grimy that just will not lubricate the engine well and eventually seize. Yeah, if it were highway miles he may get away with that, but I wouldn't chance it. If you are Ubering, that is a LOT of downtime and also costly on repairs.

Eddie, I drive in a neighboring state and I got a 2015 Honda Pilot with 27,000 miles on it in late 2017. My car now has 365,000 and still going strong. One thing I did to greatly increase my car's longevity is change the rear differential fluid, and check the transmission fluid every now and then, I changed it a few times but now I just add more as needed to replace normal fluid loss over time. But most importantly, I got a device called S-VCM to disable the cylinder deactivation (eco mode) because it will ruin an otherwise very reliable engine. My MPG stayed the same. Eco mode causes uneven power on the engine which is what causes shudders and vibrations and ruins the engine mounts, and it also ruins piston rings and fouls spark plugs. Not sure if your Honda has that eco mode but if it does, get S-VCM asap. And my guy, change your oil every 5000-6000 miles. Changing your oil is not a scam lol

@rh3toricalanswer Ай бұрын
@@juliet4093 it absolutely does make it better, at least in the sense of reliability. Look into VCM issues on honda and why cylinder deactivation causes oil leaks, fouled spark plugs and failed motor mounts over time. In my case it was a stuck piston ring and spark plugs covered in oil that was causing misfires and a blinking check engine light. I have driven over 100,000 miles since disabling the VCM and haven't had any issues

@@juliet4093 oh yeah I was referring to the older models, don't know about 2016+ models. I remember seeing something about how the newer VCM system uses magnets to stop the deactivated pistons from moving but idk if it's true. But for systems that only disable combustion while the pistons continue to move that's what causes the problem, because without combustion the moving pistons create a vacuum in the combustion chamber which over time pulls oil over the piston rings, gunking them up over time and causes oil to burn and the spark plugs to get fouled when those cylinders are firing again. And the uneven power is what causes the motor mounts to fail over time, not sure how Honda deals with that with the newer models

Old Guy Rant (64 this year): I can tell you from experience, regular oil changes will lengthen the life of your car. I tend to do them every 7500 miles or so. I run synthetic in my cars. My daily is a '09 retired Crown Vic cop car. For 12 years, after Hurricane Katrina washed us from New Orleans to south Mississippi, I had a 125 mile round trip back to work in New Orleans. I wore out several cars in those 12 years. My advice: do better with your oil changes and keep buying Hondas. If I were to pick one over the other, Toyota would win over Honda, but we got almost 500,000 miles out of a Honda Odyssey. I sold it to a friend a few of years ago and it's still going strong. Love your channel!

You should've known everybody would've chewed you out in the comments, but with that said, there's a LOT that you can do yourself and some that you can't but are cheap enough that you wouldn't really have to. TLC is key. Spend less now and save more later. *Change Oil every 5k-6k, unless you use an oil that's rated for 10k-12k miles (that's why a lot of people do it themselves). *Change Engine Air Filter every 12k-15k miles. ($20 or so to replace) *Change Cabin Air Filter every 12k miles. ($12 or so to replace) *Check all fluids, tire pressure, and lights every 3 weeks. (Fluids are $10-12 to refill, tire pressure is free at some places, Parking Lights are $5 for LED, Headlights/High Beams/Fog Lights are $20 each for Fluorescent and $50 each for LED) *Only use Shell, Chevron, Exxon, or Mobil Gas Stations for Gasoline. They specialize in Fuel Additive Research and sell products by themselves, then they add these products in their fuel to stand out from the competition. They're $0.10 to $0.25 more per gallon, but you get improved Fuel Economy, Longer Lasting Engine, and a Cleaner Engine Cylinder overall. **Shell is the cheapest out of those 4, but when availability is limited you've got the other 3 to choose from. *Use the Penny Test to check your Tread Life on your tires. **Go to a Tire Specialized Place for your tires purchase and install. They're super cheap and can get you way more bang for your buck. For example, I replaced my 2 Rear Tires for my 2008 Honda Fit with 75k mile rated All-Weather tires - total install, including a 3-year accident warranty and replacement TPMS for both came to just under $300 for the pair of tires at Discount Tire. At least you did the most important part of all: Finding a reliable, trustworthy mechanic for your annual checks. That's primarily what saved you the most money - otherwise, you'd of been quoted $800-$2000 repairs every visit from most other mechanics. "Oh, I noticed that there's quite a bit of wear on your transaxle and we're gonna have to do some extensive work to get that back to 'normal'. That'll only cost $2500-$3500. No biggie for an Uber Driver, right?"

Seeing a lot of Private Hire vehicles transitions into full EVs perhaps to reduce the service and wear and tear items seeing that EVs mainly just need the tyres, suspension and brake related item checked. My Kia E-Niro is recommended for a 10k service, some dealers say annually. But like the US seeing a major reductions in London of incentives, lower fares for either long (10+ mile) journeys to earn money when surge pricing is not in effect.

2007 Honda Fit with 130,000 miles (admittedly below average in today's standards). This is a 17 year old car and I've literally never had a major repair or maintenance cost. Had some coils go bad, which are super easy to do on your own. I'm Honda for life unless something monumental changes - even though I hate them for no longer selling the Fit here.

You’re so confident in saying that you only get an oil change once a year regardless of the mileage. If you get synthetic oil changes that’s good for at least 5k-7k you’re engine’ll last longer. I personally know a couple people that think exactly like you with that. Perfectly new car with less than 50k with a seized engine cause this person didn’t believe in oil changes. Come on man

Only at the beginning and I’m thinking dang if you did all those miles in this area in 3 3/4 years….I can only imagine the amount of miles for Cali drivers. I’ve had issues around here SOMETIMES with either longer trips(over an hour) or Philly to Jersey/vice versa, some drivers refuse at pick up, but in Cali, I’ve never had an issue taking hour plus rides(most of my rides I took were hour to hour 1/2 anyways), but yeah those are wild numbers bro, I can understand how it can take its damage on a car

I’m so glad I got on Spark. Uber racked up 200+ miles a day. With Spark maximum 100 miles usually around 65 miles a day and I avg $30.00 hour in my market after gas. I work 25-30 a week. You should put money aside for repairs. Plus with Spark my acceptance rate is 20% and they don’t penalize me. I also work on my car 90% of the time. I use synthetic and change it at 20,000 miles. Majority of my trips are 3.5 miles each. Plus I don’t accept rides without tips and a minimum of $5.00 mile with tip.

This is exactly why I laugh at any job that wants me to use my own resources to make them money. In the case of Uber they need to supply me with a car or pay for all of my repairs while driving for them. I’m getting to where I don’t want to do KZfaq. As a KZfaqr I have to drive a lot to film things and you think google is paying me for a new car? Not even close. Doing KZfaq has landed me in need of a new car at a time when I can’t get one. So I’ve stoped traveling and now rely on all my backlog of content until it runs dry. Thanks google for screwing me over. Oh and yes I knew I was wearing out my car while not being paid. My hope was to finally get discovered or have some kind of a breakthrough into a career that I could live off of because every other avenue had failed. Oh well that’s my rant. So in the future if the company doesn’t provide every tool to do the job just laugh at them and walk away.

I was thinking the very same thing, especially after I was involved in an accident (100 percent not my fault). The price of maintaining vehicles has gone through the roof. And my brother is a mechanic, I insist of paying for the parts - the parts alone were almost $700. Uber seems to be the only transportation company that doesn't own a vehicle.

You should change your oil each 15 000km when you are driving normally (city, highway) If you drive in high revs or , change it each 10 000 ( 15 000 is average for 1 year). It may cost you 100€ (107$) but it will save your engine in long run (cost of engine rebuild or new engine is 10x more expensive than 10 years of oil changes ... You wont have metal particles floating in your oil and "contaminating" your engine and also new oil has much better lubricating capabilities.

Uber is trying to get gas drivers off the road. They're making it harder to make any money if you have to pay for gas, oil changes, brake jobs, transmission issues, etc. EV drivers just don't have nearly as much maintenance (if any) they need to worry about beyond tires & windshield washer fluid even if they drive a lot for Uber, Lyft, Doordash, Spark, Task Rabbit, etc. The following applies mostly to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)/100% EVs. The maintenance things I'll mention are if you get a BEV instead of a hybrid. The Uber incentives, the charging experience, & the tax incentives might also apply to hybrids as well. But please skip the maintenance headaches that plug-in hybrids have & get a BEV if you can. Maintenance: EVs, especially quality ones like Teslas, can go many more years on the same brakes because of 1-pedal driving. That's where you lift off the accelerator/"gas" pedal and it slows the vehicle down nearly instantly and stays stopped until you press on the "gas" pedal again even if you don't keep your foot on the brake pedal. I've driven my 2019 Tesla Model 3 nearly 100,000 miles on the same brakes while driving for Uber because of 1-pedal driving. Not every EV has 1-pedal driving. The Nissan Ariya doesn't so avoid that one if you want your brakes to last a long time. All EVs don't need oil changes, transmission fluid changes, transfer case fluid, spark plugs, head gaskets, radiator fluids, timing belts, fuel filters, etc. Uber incentives: And Uber pays you an extra dollar per trip/delivery while also offering you the option to get $1,000.00 USD from them for getting an EV. Public charging: If you avoid Nissan Leaf EVs, you'll have a good experience. Nissan Leaf EVs have a handle that's hard to find when public charging. If you get a Tesla, you'll have the best public charging experience. Tesla vehicles have the best charging infrastructure with the Supercharging network as well as access to non-Tesla branded public chargers like Electrify America, EVgo, Chargepoint, Blink, Volta (free charging with Volta by the way), etc. But not all Tesla Superchargers can support non-Tesla EVs. And charging EVs at public chargers can take just as long as filling up at cheap gas stations. Most cheap gas stations have long lines. You will not have to charge more often than filling up with gas if you get an EV with at least 250 miles of range. You will get energy back in stop-n-go traffic because of regenerative braking (heat from braking "tops up" the electricity on the battery as you drive), reducing your need to charge as often. Home charging: Home charging can be very easy. You can use a mobile charger (like a big, beefy laptop charger) for your EV on a permanent basis. Plenty of them use dryer outlets but some, like Tesla, include mobile chargers that can use toaster outlets just fine but slow. If your landlord or HOA is preventing you from installing outlets for EV charging or hardwired EV charging equipment, some states have Right to Charge laws that say they can't block that but you'll have to pay for it (usually between $1,000.00-$2,500 USD average in the US). Tax incentives for EVs & plug-in hybrids: You'll get point of sale tax incentive of up to $7,500.00 USD from the US federal government when you buy a new or $4,000.00 USD if you buy an used EV. These tax incentives might also apply to plug-in hybrids and leases of either BEVs or plug-in hybrids as well. But you need to meet the following (very generous) income thresholds: Single and married filing separately: $150,000. Head of household: $225,000. Married filing jointly: $300,000. And those incentives are on top of any incentive from your state. More information: You should watch the following video for more info on EVs. @carquestionsanswered was on an EV channel asking car guy/grease monkey questions about EVs. The guys on the EV channel didn't put the grease monkey guy down. They were very understanding of the grease monkey guy's questions. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qdenhdKYq7ObZ5c.htmlsi=OQ8m2fPmhdSL4j4j

Uber is sub contracting their drivers and use of their vehicles. I am astonished that Uber has suckered this many people into their system. Uber should be paying for use of your car byway of a stipend since they are contracting your services which requires the use of your vehicle. The stipend should be as such that it covers insurance, payment, and ware and tare. The only people making money here is Uber off the wheels of their poor employees.

The only reason I Uber is because I am married to a mechanic who works for a dealership. I got my new 2020 with 11 miles on it for less than the dealership paid for it because the dealership and the manufacturer booth offer great employee discounts that stack. I also get parts and labor at cost + 10% if I take it in for work and free labor if it's something minor. I'm also not somewhere where a lot of salt is used on roads because that will seriously rust out the car
