Hi I'm Wendy a resin artist, crafter and learner turner.
In this video I am showing you how I made these very sweet Gonks, also known as Norwegian gnomes.
I have seen them made plenty of times but this is the first time for me and I am very happy with them.
Thanks to Emma / thetinyturner
I hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching
Wendy

If you make a mold, make it have separate pieces… the body, hat, nose etc …. You could also make a larger mold for a larger gonk… by adding pieces for arms with little hands, legs with feet, a shield and perhaps an axe for him to hold! Soooo many possibilities…. I have to say, I am really enjoying your channel :) I subscribed about a month or two ago and have really had a lot of fun watching the things you create… inspiring me to create more and trying out new techniques! I enjoy listening to you as well… my gran was from the UK, (Yorkshire to be exact) and I miss her and listening to her so much… you sound a LOT like her! She was a very crafty person too and she passed that love of crafting, creating things from nothing and art on to me… I hope that you have a blessed day, or in your case, evening since it’s like 7:30pm there… thank you for sharing your art and passions for creating with all of us! Cheers!

I’ve never been to Yorkshire but I really should go. It’s a beautiful part of the country so I’ve heard. I’m really glad you are enjoying my little channel and happy it’s inspiring you 😀😀 I did make a mould and cast a gonk with it though it was definitely a difficult process 😂😂 I will link the video at the bottom 😊 Love the add on body parts idea 👍 I might do that in the future 😀😀 Thank you so much for your lovely comment ❤️ It’s very much appreciated 👍❤️ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lZuppM2etKicYnk.html

@@Toonpish you are most welcome dear Wendy! Yes, Yorkishire is a gorgeous area… my family’s estate was on the easternmost boundaries… it was sold back in 2000 after my gran moved here to the states to live with my mum and dad… the man she had married, after divorcing my biological grandfather, had passed away and the only family there were his kids… so, she moved to the states to be with us… I’m glad she did but man I missed going to the UK in the summers for visits… I always came back home with a weird sort of British accent mixed in to my normal everyday speech… it drove my mum nuts… and even today if I say something like, "bloody hell" or that "bloody thing" or just "bloody," my dad will pop off, "why does it have to be "bloody"? Is it injured or something ?" lol But anyway, yes… thank you so much for doing what you do! If you ever make a gonk mold complete with Icees for the arms and legs, shield, hammer, axes etc, I better get one of them since I did give you the idea…. 🤣 🤣 🤣 I’m only joking…. Or am I? 🤔 🤔 🤔

@@ZippedUpKitz Andy Phillip does gorgeous work. David Adamsen did a video 2 yrs. ago called ‘Not enough corners! The way he turned that piece just seemed impossible. I don’t know how he could even see what or where he was cutting/shaving. With both of them it’s often a mystery where they’re going with a piece. I like trying to figure out what they’re making, usually I don’t know until the end.😆

@@funo6581 when I started on a lathe, I was going backwards… I’m a southpaw… so, I would look at something and go to recreate it and do it completely backwards! I wish I had my own lathe! I use a friend of mine's… he is an assistant scout masters in my kid's BSA troop and teaches the woodworking merit badge… he always has the kids over to his garage where all his woodworking tools are… but anyway I digress too much lol… he was trying to teach me how to make a simple Christmas tree and I was doing it in a mirror image of what he was doing cuz that is how I saw it! But, it came out! The first time I ever made was supposed to be a Christmas tree, but I ended up turning it into a little, bell complete with the little ball that knocks against the sides to make the bell ring… I did get the Christmas tree made though! lol… I want to go over to his place and try to make one of these little bonks!!!!

Hi Wendy, great job with your first gnome. I think wood is so much easier to turn than resin and it certainly doesn't take long to master. FYI the pad is Scotch Brite, and it's a spigot. If you haven't already, have a look at Colwin Way over at Axminster Tools youtube, he shows how to make a great Viking Gnome. Sub'd

Thanks Steve 😀😀 and welcome to my little channel 😀😀😀 I will check out Colwin Way 👍 If only I can remember spigot and scotch brite names 😣 When you are dyslexic names of anything just elude you and they definitely won’t nothing to do with me 😂😂😂🥹 Thanks for your comment and subbing 😀😀 really appreciated

Hi ,,I think I had a gift from Australia when I was a young teen,,, and although I used to make a gonk,,, this was completely differant was supposed to be very lucky, but just can't remember the name it was given, but it wasn't a gonk! As I had a relative R.I.P that used to live in Perth Australia,, and he had sent this gift if I remember rightly but it had a weird name like for example fizwiget but that was not the name ,, would you know or have any idea what it could be called, as I've searched you tube but not easy, if I knew what it was called I wouldn't need to look it up!! My relative I think lived in the out back,, or out skirts of perth the gonks, reminded me of that gift your work on the gonks ,,is so beautiful 😍 if you could find out for me ,if possible. Thank you
