In this video I am showing you how I managed to destroy the crystal of a brand new moonswatch mission to the Mars by accident. A thing that will help you not to repeat it. Also you will see a side by side with the mission to the moon version.
Enjoy

Amazing, a $260 watch with a plastic "crystal" so delicate that its own storage box is able to noticeably scratch it. Without the Omega and Swatch names on it, this plastic watch would sell for $40 or less.

Hello Andrei, thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts. I'm sorry you experienced these issues. You should be commended for you honesty, integrity and values...exemplary and always joyful to find in a person. To be honest, eventhough I own an Omega Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch, I was enthusiastic about getting a MoonSwatch. Not anymore. The more I've read and the more videos I've watched I'm at a point where I'm not interested anymore. What I did instead of trying to get a MoonSwatch I just bought a Bulova Lunar Pilot Special Edition for $375. This I believe is a much better piece as it dies have true historical value, and it is a very well built watch with an ultra high frequency quartz movement. The only downside to this watch is that it is a little big, however I don't mind this at all. Please do share your video of using polywatch to eliminate minor surface scratches from acrylic crystals. Thank you very much.

I've never been so glad I _didn't_ wait hours in line for a cheap plastic watch. That is unacceptable and to think how many people are getting this watch, some kids, and how quickly its going to be completely ruined. For those who are unaware - paper is the worst thing to cut with a knife because it will dull the knife extremely fast. Paper is ABRASIVE and will even scratch stainless steel (try rubbing a mirror polished watch against that box... or better yet, trust me and DON'T :)). It's absolutely normal that it would scratch a plastic crystal, that's why they put the protective film on it. I'm willing to bet the same thing would happen to the Hesalite on an Omega, maybe not to the same degree, but it would. Is a hesalite Omega also a toy? :)

Honestly, the more I hear about this watch, the less that I want one. They are an overpriced plastic toy, with nothing more than a cheap quartz movement, with a cheap plastic case and a very fragile ?dial cover? I mean, people complain about Seiko and their proprietary Hardlex Mineral Crystal, but you really have to mistreat a Seiko crystal to get it to scratch. If it wasn't that Swatch owned Omega, this range never would have happened. I understand the allure, but it should be priced accordingly. You could get many different ISO certified Diver watches, with auto or in-house quartz movements that would last decades, for the price of one of these. Good luck to those that have them and enjoy them, just be careful. Cheers.

Im a little puzzled over this whole moonswatch craze. A better option is to get a Speedmaster homage if you like the design - a homage built with good materials and a decent movement inside. I did, and for less than half the price of the moonswatch. It even has sapphire crystal, so no scratches expected. The only thing this very capable watch lacks is the Omega logo. There were about 5 people on the queue when I arrived so I thought there was a sale until I overheard a lady said they are now back in stock. I did a quick Google search and decided to get the Jupiter instead of a Swatch Pay model. After checking the watch, I wasn’t sure that I really want it so I kept the protective film just in case I want to return it. They are too fragile and too costly to be labelled as a toy, but that is what they seem to be. Owners should then consider to use it like a "disposable fun toy" watch and not worry about it or as "pure collectibles" to be stored away and admired. Anything in between should consider other watches first.

I hope they don’t just limit this collaboration to the Moonwatch, this could be just the start of something of bigger future collabs. They could venture to expanding the concept to the Seamaster Omega x Swatch collab too: there are 31 varieties of the Sea theme for them to think about (e.g., Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red, Baltic, Arabian, South China, Celebes, etc). Another one is Railmaster collab series: the likes of Amtrak, British, Eurostar, Trenitalia, Oriental Express, SBB, etc). Better yet, the Constellation collab series would do great with so many possible variants.

Very important....when polishing with Polywatch or any abrasive paste for plastic cristals it is important that you don't make circles. You should go STRAIGHT from top to botom, form botom to top and then from left to right...and right to left...changing angles gradually...and the reason is that you have to always return to the polished surface to soothen the microscopic grooves you are creating over the already scrached surface. If you do circles, you will never match the previous scratches.

If I may offer my own experience/rant with Swatch: I have a Swatch Irony Sistem51. I got it in NYC because I thought to movement was a really cool innovation and I wanted it as a unique talking point in my collection. A year later, I don't like it. I scratched the "crystal" the first time I wore it with my motorcycle jacket. Yeah, it's rough fabric, but it's a $250 watch. My Vostok has never had a problem with that, and while that's purely circumstantial evidence, if the Vostok does get scuffed the crystal is thick enough that I can polish it without feeling like I'm removing a significant portion of the material. The plastic buckle (did I mention it's a $250 watch?) snapped and I replaced it with a metal one from Amazon. They say it has 30m water resistance, but the way the crown offers so little resistance, I'm nervous to even splash it. If it wasn't for the nostalgia of the trip where I got it, it'd be gone. The moment it fails it's going in the trash and I'm never getting another one. Not that I have an option, because it's completely impossible to repair. Did I mention that it's a $250 watch? I feel like I have to type this facing away from it because it's so fragile these words might snap the pallet fork. Meanwhile, my Seiko 5 that I got around $100 has been with me mountain biking, swimming, backpacking, clay shooting, etc. Still keeps great time, and I'm about to replace the crystal with a sapphire one because it's not built to be disposable so you can do things like that. If I had a quartz Swatch for 50 bucks, maybe I'd be less bitter. But for the price, I just don't get it. (Did I mention the price?)

The scratching issue sums up what I feared about this watch. A cheap-to-make item that will not stand the test of time or indeed any proper normal use. I took my family to stand in line for 9 hours and we got 5 moon swatches. When opened for the first time every single one of them had a protective sticker that looked it was dragged around on a dusty floor or worn for a month as a crystal protector. It made me confused and suspicious how this could happen, but since it was the same for all of them, and if you look at photos on eBay for ones for sale all over the world (with the sticker still on) it seems to somehow be completely standard. Under the protective stickers 4/5 of the crystals were fine, but one had a few tiny yet somewhat deep scratches on the side of the crystal where it rises at a near 90 degree angle up from the surface of the dial. The fact that these scratches are kind of deep and the horrid condition of all the stickers makes me think this is NOT being damaged by the box. I suspect there’s something else going on with their manufacturing/packing process that is doing this. Not sweating the tiny scratches on the one as they can’t really be seen without magnification, but it’s just really odd how these come looking almost intentionally roughed up while being completely new and carefully opened.

So as daily swatch wearer, I am used to the lightweight "toy" feel of the watches as well as the plastic Cristal. I have come to really appreciate that lightweight nature on the wrist, it is a big plus in comfort. As for the Cristal, I certainly wouldn't mind a saphire, but the plastic does do the job. Yes it scratches, but can be polished easily. They do it for free in 5 minutes at a swatch shop. Also, it contributes to that super light weight which is so nice. All in all, when I get a swatch, I buy it as an user item.. Not a piece to pass on to my children. Turns out they daily great, the negatives of "fragile" plastic are easily compensated by the low price and light weight.

Well, you've managed to totally destroy any enthusiasm I might have had for owning a MoonSwatch. And for that I have to offer up a massive "Thank You!" A watch crystal that gets destroyed rubbing against its own cardboard case is, IMHO, simply not fit for purpose. I never harboured any illusions that the MoonSwatch was going to be as durable as it's Omega inspiration. But a watch that's so fragile that its going to be irreparably marred by even the lightest use and wear, simply isn't worth the money. I'll continue to suffer with my ±30 year old Rolex Submariner, which looks as flawless as the day I bought it, new, from a Rolex retailer. Best $1100 I ever spent.

If you can repair your watch with a bit of polish and cloth, then I would hardly call it destroyed. Too much drama, which is a shame because it makes you look biased. I get it, these watches scratch easily. Everybody expected as much given the material. Yes it is a major turnoff, but that in itself doesn't kill the watch. Try to polish out a hardlex crystal and see how that works.

If you take a Swatch watch to any Swatch store (not an authorized seller, but their own stores) they polish the dome for free and remove any scratches with their specialized machinery while using their own compound. The process takes 10 minutes and it is like brand new afterwards. You can only do that around 5 times in total before you need to replace the whole dome though, since it thins the outer layer so much it might become fragile. I've done this many times since their plastic polymer dome is extremely prone to scratching. :D

This is a great watch-for my 12 year old son who loves my Speedmaster but isn’t quite making Speedmaster money yet. I’m sure others similarly situated will get a big kick out of it, as long as they understand that this is NOT the equivalent of an actual Omega Speedmaster. If, for the retail price, you enjoy the taste of Speedmaster experience it offers, that’s great. But nobody should for one minute entertain the idea that this will permanently, or even for any considerable length of time, slake their Speedmaster thirst. Folks, Swatches are, and have always been- fashion pieces. Too many of you have a completely wrong idea about the Moonswatch and its purpose. It is NOT a "beater" watch to wear in the place of anything else. No Swatch could hold up to being a 'beater' watch, nor should it! SWATCH stands for "second watch" and should always be treated as just that- your SECOND watch, worn accordingly. It is fun and fashionable, not a damn G-Shock. Watch people often have trouble comparing like-with-like. Just read the comments. They are comparing this to Seiko 5s, Orient divers and G-Shocks! E.G.- this is not a tool watch, nor is it a beater watch, nor a dress watch, nor an aspirational piece, nor an investment piece, etcetera...heck, Swatches are BARELY even watches! Oftentimes, telling time on one is difficult because the STYLE and LOOKS of the Swatch comes before being able to tell the time! It is a quartz watch, but barely... Get off your high horses, people. This is a fashion piece for fashionable people. They know this isn't for everyday wear. You should, too. Like all fashions, these aren't made to last forever. They are made to LOOK GOOD. And they do. Mission accomplished. (Pun intended.)

Go buy your cheap Casio and enjoy it. The comparison of the two is preposterous. I don't have to agree with you. Swatch did what Swatch does- make amazing looking Swiss quartz Art fashion accessories that people like to LOOK at. These are not tools. You just don't know Swatch.

i believe the looks and details within this watch are actually pretty good, I really really like the overall design choices and the companies behind them. minus the brand marketing, the overall watch DOES have interesting features with striking colors to certainly start a conversation. I DO like it... but... the durability and overall "toy-ness" of the watch is a deal-breaker for me. I can buy a watch that looks almost as good that will last much longer with the same features.... for the same money. It's cool that they are experimenting like this but a quality build is one of many watch necessities that can't be overlooked like this.
