In this video I explain what EGR is, what it is meant to do, and how it achieves this goal.

All these years i was to believe the recirculated exhaust gas was to burn off any unburnt fuel. Clearly not the case. Thanks for explaining this so well.

do you know if the egr suction is downstream of the DPF exhaust?

So where does the coolant system come into play when people say you could have a bad egr cooler if you are losing coolant?

hai from Malaysia... i thing egr system like green diesel engine used... recycle gas from exzos. that mean not all burn when combustion from 4stroke engine... why they not used 2stroke engine???

Can I be logically correct to conclude that a faulty egr valve can lead to overheating? Just asking.

yes

yes if it stuck closed and your car too old has no computer to monitor and limit the temp

Doesn't EGR reduce the power, efficiency, and the whole point of the engine?
@ittakir2 жыл бұрын
EGR improves efficiency but degrades output power. But most of the time you don't drive with wide open throttle. You are cruising with mild engine load.
@hg2.2 жыл бұрын
@@ittakir They are stupid for rural drivers. They should not be forced to live by the same emissions standards as Los Angeles.

No. EGR is not functional at WOT and cannot affect peak power regardless. At less than WOT it increases efficiency. This is because under vacuum (less than WOT) your effective compression ratio goes way down. The cylinder is still moving the same distance but there's less air to compress, so the net compression is greatly reduced. That makes the engine much less efficient for the same reason low compression, naturally aspirated engines are inefficient. EGR puts some inert (no oxygen) gas into intake manifold while it's under high vacuum so that the cylinders have something to compress without changing the AFR, that increases throttle response and engine efficiency at part throttle, effectively simulating a variable compression ratio engine. It's crazy how many people think EGR harms performance.

LOL. I was just going to ask, doesn't EGR reduce the power, efficiency, and the whole point of the engine?
@723lion3 жыл бұрын
@@hg2. Theoretically yes but that's what the engines are built for, if you really remove the EGR system 1 you won't pass smog 2 your engine gets way too hot and your piston ring gon melt.

@@723lion No sense. Diesels worked fine before the dictates if EPA.

EGR delete a must. A pro tuner will discard this item first. Next, TGV delete. Then remove catalytic converters and mufflers, now we're talking. The carbon buildup unacceptable. Where is your AOS? Blowby kills anyone
