We cannot start talking about Einstein without discussing a classical physicist Sir Isaac Newton. In 1687, Newton published his book “Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy”. In the book, he described his three Laws of Motion and the Law of Gravity. His book is considered one of the most important writings in the history of mankind. After watching an apple fall, he asked himself a question. And if the apple falls, does the moon also fall? These questions led him to discover the Law of Gravity.
According to his Law of Gravitation, every object in the universe enacts its own force of attraction on another object. And this force is the reason why we are stuck on Earth, why the moon orbits the Earth, and indeed, why the universe exists. But that didn’t answer all of Newton’s questions. Like, why do objects attract each other? What is the source of gravity? And why does Mercury's orbit jiggle?
The rest remained a mystery until the era of Albert Einstein. In 1915, #Einstein published his Theory of General #Relativity, or in other words, his theory of #Gravity. In this theory, Einstein explained gravity and its source. He answered all the questions that Newton couldn’t, like Mercury’s precession.
Let’s take a step back here to 1905, to truly grasp where these different pieces of the puzzle come to life. This year, Einstein published his Theory of Special Relativity. It deals with the speed of light and the motion of objects. It was fine with non-accelerating objects, but the theory did not apply when gravity was present, or if the object was accelerating. He couldn’t quite figure the rest out. Until one fine day in 1907. He was observing a window washer on a ladder and had an epiphany.
He thought about what he would be experiencing while falling. He imagined himself there and realized that while falling, the ground would not be pushing him, so he would be in a free fall. That put some of the pieces together, but he still wasn’t fully finished. He began to think about falling again, this time he imagined himself in a room with no windows. On the surface of the Earth, you would weigh whatever your weight is now. But imagine if the room was in a spacecraft, moving in an upward direction with the same 9.8 meters per second squared as here on the ground. In that moment, if you were to weigh yourself, you would weigh the same as you do on Earth. Einstein realized that the observer would not be able to tell if he is on a spaceship, or on the surface of the Earth. That is because he would be moving at the exact same rate of acceleration. There would be no way to tell the difference.
This phenomenon is called the Equivalence Principle, which states that an object that is accelerating free of any gravitational pull is essentially no different than the same object that is stationary but affected by gravity. In other words, something moving in space with no gravity has the same mass as something on earth that is not moving. In his special theory of relativity, he could only deal with non-accelerating objects and the speed of light.
Let’s pause here for a second. This means that at that point, he knew how to unify his theory of special relativity with gravity. Luckily, he didn’t stop there. He did another thought experiment. This time he imagined what would happen if he pointed a laser beam from one side of the room towards the other. If the room were in a spaceship that was moving upwards with the same acceleration rate as earth, the height of the beam would slightly be lower on the other side of the room. As the floor moved up, it curved the light and caused it to bend down. But, this principle only applied in space. When he thought about the same experiment on earth, the light would appear to be straight. Of course, these two scenarios only happened in his brain. Let’s just take a brief moment to appreciate how brilliant he is to be able to conduct that experiment, all of that, in his brain.
Einstein wasn’t convinced though, as this violated the principle of equivalence. The acceleration of the room on the spaceship was the same as under the influence of gravity. The heights should be the same in both cases, so why were they different? He realized that the only possibility could be that the light beam must be bending under the gravitational influence. But how could this be? What does this bending of light mean?

Not to mention his humility. Which for him was just being realistic and practical. He admitted that if he hadn't thought of that concept, it would be that inevitable that someone else would. He himself gave credit to Newton and a # of sharp minds that laid the foundation of understanding that he could build upon.

We owe everything we have today (thus the easy life compared to 200,000 years ago) to a few brilliant individuals that greatly advanced human understanding. Thank you Einstein, Newton, James Clarke Maxwell, Marie Curie, Edwing Schroedinger, Tesla, Stephen Hawking and many others for getting us this far in a short time span! And rooting and cheering on the current scientists who are very hard at work to better humanity!

That era of thinkers were magnificent, however we couldn't have even had a society that allowed for critical thinking without Plato or Socrates. And by that logic, we wouldn't have had the ancient Greeks without the very first genius who discovered fire lol

Actually, many more than those white men are responsible for the present. The lady genius Noether, for instance, was instrumental in Einstein's theory formulation and has become fundamental in scientific theory construction but is barely known. I remind you of the movie, Hidden Figures, as well. Our history books are scandalously propagandistic owing to a stubborn white male supremacist legacy.

What’s most impressive about the original ideas and theories of these great thinkers, is that they proved these things without ever even going to space. They understand the rules but never needed to leave the earth to test these theories, which just shows how open minded their ideas were. They found ways to test their hypothesis’s with their feet on the ground. Much respect

It's interesting how Einstein's theories all tie together. More interesting the fact that he was able to come up with his Equivalence Theory before man had even left the atmosphere. It goes without saying, but his intelligence is one in a millennia.

@@hehe_-_hehe a few problems here u have which is u dont understand what gravitational acceleration is and u dont understand that the curvature of the light in that thought experiment has a curvature so small that it might as well be a straight line but when it is amplified over a distance of a few million/billion kilometres the light will bend. Tldr the higher the gravity field strength, the slower time is. For example is like in the movie interstellar when they went to a planet near a black hole which have a very powerful gravity field strength, it will affect the time on the planet. That is in the vid they say that people that live on the iss experience time faster even though since time is dependent on gravity. Fyi it is just a few seconds

@@lumi5056 For me I know that the theory is wrong because space cannot bend and time is.. It is just an illusion of things changing, it cannot be a dimension! There are another reasons 1. What is in This video makes no sense at all, a banana does not equal an apple because they are fruit and you cannot make your own logic to prove anything 2. Remember that show on national geographic? The train. When he said "not if light moves at one speed" that shows the whole scam, he treated the scene like they all see the same beam of light! ..imagine it yourself you will know that it is impossible for the two persons to see the same beam of light, if you imagined it well you will say where is the theory in that. 3. What do you think charges and fields are? Just it and go on??? No! There cannot be a thing like that! World is not maths! All who say I understand that no-theory are just who read only, then you come up with problems like dark matter, spooky action at a distance and big bang! All of these came just to try to fill the gaps. People who believe this are the same who believe dinosaurs and that pyramids are burials! And that we are in an advanced era I will say it for once, Time is just an illusion of things changing, space is not a thing that can bend, there are no fields on its form like that. Holy shit 7:25 my eyes finally opened now I understand! I knew about light bending and I knew that despite the bend the speed is unaffected which is cool but what I JUST learned was from the way you said “time must slow down” then I clued in to gravity’s effect on light, speed, time is all connected! Finally I get it thanks. I watched so many of these and I’m aware of time dialation and all that stuff but I never seen such an easy visual representation.

Einstein was a rare breed genius who somehow managed to outperform all the other genius of his time. Even 100 years after his theories, we are still verifying and founding everything correct. He has given so much that, it looks like for the next 100 years we will continue to do so.

A careful study of the Vedic literature reveals that the concept of relativity, especially the time dilation, had been known before it was postulated by the modern physicists. “The Bhagwad Geeta”, the famous Hindus scripture has a shlok in the 8th chapter verse 17. It is as follows: सहस्रयुगपर्यन्तमहर्यद्ब्रह्मणो विदु: | रात्रिं युगसहस्रान्तां तेऽहोरात्रविदो जना: || Pronunciation: sahasra-yuga-paryantam ahar yad brahmaṇo viduḥ rātriṁ yuga-sahasrāntāṁ te ’ho-rātra-vido janāḥ Translation: By human calculation a thousand ages taken together is the duration of Brahma's one day. And such also is the duration of his night. It clearly says that the time is relative, which is the base of the Theory of Relativity.

@@sumeetghai8867 I was just saying that the idea of time dilation was known earlier too. We could relate the scientific facts and the incident mentioned in scripture. King Kakudmi was in a relative motion with rest of the earth while he was travelling to Brahma-lok and returning to earth and was in a different gravitational field during his stay at Brahma-lok for a short while till his conversation with Brahma. Which led to slower his clock from rest of the world and meanwhile 27 Chaturyug passed on earth. Here, one may ask for the archeological evidences for Kakudmi, Raiwati, Baldeo or Kushasthali, but the archeological evidences are of very less important for me. I do not much bother for the historical evidence, the concept is important for me. By this incident, it is evident that the writer of Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran was well know of the scientific fact - time dilation. One may inculpate here saying this a work of speculation or coincidence, but certainly it is not as another similar incident is mentioned in this book. In 10th Skandh, Chapter 51, Shloka 14 to 19. In these shlokas it is mentioned, Muchukand an offspring of Mandhata; another scion of Ikshwaku; was travelled to Devlok to assist them during Devasur Sangram (war). When Dev got Kartikeya as their military chief, they thanked Muchukand and relieved him from his duties. Muchukand returned to earth. Meanwhile on earth no one present of his time. All his relatives were a matter of past now. So, he decided to sleep in a lonely cave. It proves that these stories are not at all a coincidence but certainly the writer is aware of this complex phenomenon of time dilation. Amazing scripture!! Amazing theory. At the last, I am compelled to write, we must have to read the scriptures with a scientific view. The events and incidents written in these scriptures to be thoroughly examined. If the incidents seemed to be unscientific as per modern Science, we must do intense research on those, perhaps we could add a new dimension to modern Science with a new discovery, invention.

@@AmanVerma-qh9jv inter celestial travel is never a possibility because even the most nearest galaxy is 3. 5 millions light years away. Secondly time dilation does means time slowed down it slows only with relation to the observer. The dilation effect is so miniscule that you hardly feel it. It has nothing to do with inter celestial travel and its not even a possibility keeping the fact in mind that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light that is 3*10*8. So all these excerpts are added later jist to give it a scientific bend but have 0 credibility as there cant be any peer reviews or evidenve to support sich claim

Just as the giant leaps today we make in science are made possible by Einstein, his leaps were made possible by others, and theirs by others, and so on. We couldn't have made it to where we are without ancient people like Eratosthenes, Gan De, up to Gallileo and Faraday. Hell, without Plato and Socrates, we might not have even had a society that allowed for critical thinking!

@@mr.z6887 what do you mean (no)? Firstly the Romans [founders Roman and Rmilos] were the decedents of Hellenic migrating people originated from the Hellenic cost of Ionia, today's western turky.. Secondly, everything the Romans "had" was passed to them by the Greeks... ..remember the Romans [for their reasons] invated Hellas [Greece] but, the Hellenic people conquered Rome with their smarts and their highly educated people.. So, one can say Greeko-Roman period... but you can't take any of today's western countries or intellectuals and connected them to Romans. Sir Newton said it best.. "he could see far because he was standing on the shoulders of others"...

Dude I just want to say that out of all the videos I have watched on special theory of relativity there was always a small part that I never understood from the explanation of other people and videos, and I just want to say that your breakdown solved that question that I've always been wondering.. or should I say wondering how it worked! Well that's how emergent Intelligence works. We might build AI which can uncover the mysteries of the universe a billion times faster in the future. The universe is a giant evolutionary being, starting with no understanding of itself and finally fully understanding itself by itself.

Actually, special relativity worked with accelerating objects (Rindler's Coordinates), but it doesn't account the fact that acceleration and gravity are the same things. In other words, special relativity does not account for gravity in a non-inertial frame but it works fine with an accelerating object, Rindler Coordinate is one such non-inertial frame of special relativity which deals with accelerating object without considering the gravity (or the Ricci Scalar).

@symo special relativity treats non-interial frame differently (F=ma), general relativity treats non-interial frame differently From to equivalence principle; gravity=acceleration. (F=ma=mg)

Clocks click slower in gravitational fields relative to clocks in free fall or weaker gravity. The clock on the earth surface have more gravitational time dilation.

Must've been a problem with phrasing but I think he was talking about the concept of a laser beam, which is an amplified beam of light travelling in a straight line at the speed of light. But another cool thing is Einstein actually came up with the concept of a laser (actually an acronym for Light Amplified by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) in 1916.

Dr George Gheverghese Joseph from The University of Manchester says the 'Kerala School' identified the 'infinite series'- one of the basic components of calculus - in about 1350. The discovery is currently - and wrongly - attributed in books to Sir Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibnitz at the end of the seventeenth centuries. The team from the Universities of Manchester and Exeter reveal the Kerala School also discovered what amounted to the Pi series and used it to calculate Pi correct to 9, 10 and later 17 decimal places. And there is strong circumstantial evidence that the Indians passed on their discoveries to mathematically knowledgeable Jesuit missionaries who visited India during the fifteenth century. That knowledge, they argue, may have eventually been passed on to Newton himself.

4:03 In 1915 there were no laser beams. Difficult to think that Einstein could imagine the behaviour of such thing. Even if laser later derived from his work. It was just a light beam he thought about.

Had the same thought-laser was discovered or “invented” in the 1960’s I believe. But the phrase “light beam” would have worked in Einstein’s thought experiment.

In theory then, if you could accelerate enough to counteract the gravitational effect would you minimise time dilation? Or is the mass created by the multiple objects and therefore gravitational effect in you path having such an impact that you would have to speed up and slow down in relation to the mass and gravity of each fixed point? E.g. put two weights of different amounts on the trampoline and plot a path past them with the marble in a straight a line a possible without being drawn to them, you would have be traveling faster to pass the bigger mass to stop the effect of gravity right?

7:06 at this point, he really confused me by saying “sun will bend the path and increase the distance from A to B and so the travel time will increase as well”; Now distance rises, time rises so speed of light sort of remains constant right! So from where all those violations to theories come from?; And it took so much pondering to ultimately realising and to convince myself that no matter the bending, the distance from A to B should remain the same and in order to maintain speed of light constant, time has to dilate!!

- I would be more inclined to speculate on just how many *planets* ( r needed for an intellagence to pop out of the mix). - Our Universe is filled with a ridiculously large number of planets. So *"Universes"* is a bit much. - Theory speculates that there may be as many as 10×⁵⁰⁰ Universes ( Thats 1 followed by 500 zeros) in the > Existance Domain < Each with a different set of values for the fundamental constants. - But only " 1 " has the right values for all these constance to produce life, much less intellagence.
