Confidence is such a big part of a rookies career moving forward. He started out on fire so in his mind he now knows he can do it at this level and can even get better. Lots of fun watching this kid from an old Mets fan here…

It blows my mind we just got O'Neil Cruz and people were talking about how he's a freak athlete as a 6'7" shortstop then the next season we get Elly Del La Cruz another young Dominican shortstop at 6'5"

I am amazed De La Cruz is considered Reds best player. Today, he strikes out 4 times. Including today, how many times this season has he struck out with a winning runner on 3rd base? He makes a magnificent play that sports center will televise over and over. Trust me, he makes many more offense and defensive physical and mental errors costing the Reds numerous games than than he contributes to winning. The Reds currently reside in last place. Enough said.

50 errors in 112 MLB games. I am shaking my head. They need to get him out of the infield.

they tell the pitchers to strike him out because he is notorious for stealing bases. he is literally so fast he has run from home to home in well under 15 seconds. they throw him balls that are hard to read because once he’s on base he’s fast enough to make it home on one error… also to be fair to the reds majority of their main rotation for batters has been out at some point this season. hear ya though just saying give the kid a break it’s not his fault the media is hyping him up so much. he’s just putting his heart into the game!

I'm afraid all the ESPN hype has gone to his head. He acts as if he's above the team fray instead of just being one of 25 team dedicated players. He's immature even for a 21 year old with his hideous, unprofessional long hair and does belong back in AAA for more Instructional development. He has tremendous potential, but I feel he cost the Reds in 2023 more games than what he contributed thus far. Bell deserves much of the credit, letting him get away with his antics. His on field decision making, 37%+ strikeout rate, 235 batting avg and amount of defensive errors all speak for themselves.

Until he and the Reds go to the World Series and win it, I won’t believe it. I won’t believe in the hype. I don’t doubt De La Cruz was really exciting to watch in 2023, but I don’t trust him. The dude hit .235 for the year, with an on base percentage of .300. Both are terrible. His OPS for the year was .710, which was ten percent BELOW league average. His strikeout rate was 37.1%, the highest of any player in the major leagues. His Defensive Wins Above Replacement, or dWar, was MINUS 0.1...essentially, a below average defender. Phenom? HELL NO.

Fair, but you cant say he didn’t single handedly ignite the Reds season that was looking like a complete L… UNTIL they brought him on and they turned into one of the hottest teams instantly… Homers first couple games, hits for cycle, etc etc… You cant put a number on what some of those things did for the team…

If he acted professional and cleaned up his act both in physical appearance & and post game behavior, he would have twice the fans as he does now. Instead, he acts and looks as if he has never escaped the welfare projects & HOOD. He needs direction from a mentor like Barry Larkin in the worst way. Oh well!
