Estrogen deficiency at menopause causes heart disease, Alzheimer's, and osteoporosis. It's not just about the symptoms of menopause, but the diseases caused by menopause that is at issue. Consider HRT.

At 69, I started back on HRT 2 wks.ago. I never should have stopped. My skin was better after menopause than before & that's just what it did for my skin ! A heart issue has returned that disappeared while on HRT. I still have hot flashes too, so there was every reason to continue !

I made it through a hellish menopause without estrogen. But of late I’ve looked into an estrogen creams- Both primary care and gynecologist don’t advise it. They say I’ve made it through the bad part, and I’ve made it to the other side as a healthy post menopausal woman. And I’m grateful, I feel great… I’ll live with my aging skin. But sometimes- I look in the mirror….. and I see an old woman!

Menopause is a whole different animal. I'm 48 and entered it this year. I would say the hot flashes bother me the most. It's a very, uncomfortable, intense heat. 🥵. NO libido is wonderful too. 🤣. So, I take Equate menopausal support. It does not have HRT in it.

I had a radical total hysterectomy before I was perimenopausal due to cervical cancer. At 48, I got topical estrogen. At 51, HRT as my new gyn looked at my risk and bone loss. My skin changed in those years of going from normal estrogen to post-op post-menopausal. Estrogen, if safe for you and risks understood, is amazing for women- skin is fuller, no gyn issues, and I feel like myself again.

Me too. Same surgery for same reason! I am 51 and started on a low dose of an estrogen patch about four months ago. I feel so much better. My oncologist wrote the script for me bc my gynecologist refused. Apparently she doesn’t read notes from other doctors and started me on paxil instead. It did absolutely nothing. I got off of that. At my last onc appt, I told her what happened. She raged for me and said “I will take care of you and get the script.” I felt so much relief not only at being heard but once that estrogen hit my body.

I'm using Estradiol patches, progestin pill and Estradiol cream on vagina and the face. Loving all of it for menopausal symptoms! TBH - the cream has only been perscribed by my doctor for the vulva/vaginal area using a dime size dab 3 times a week. However, I apply the cream daily to vaginal area and face/neck. Just about a tiny pomegranate seed size dab to each of those areas. I'm using it this way, of my own accord, outside of my doctors directions. The benefit has outweighed the risk in my mind for using these hormones. Quality of life is a very important factor. So far, this works quite well for me.

It was worth it to give it a try - off label and not strictly as perscribed by my doctor. I figured, IDGAF, so I used my perscription cream instead of buying another product for my face.

I have to say, I have recently started using Emopelle over the last two months and have noticed a wonderful improvement in my skin. My skin hasn’t looked so smooth and clear in quite some time. I’m also using a rosacea compounding treatment to combat that problem and use a prescription Retinol. Emopelle is expensive, no doubt, but you only need a couple of drops to spread around. I’m very happy using it. They have 20-30 percent off sales throughout the year. I would recommend a try. It took about 6 weeks for me to see visible results. I am 62 yrs. old.

Developed osteoporosis, lost teeth due to bone loss, very dry skin, unwanted facial hair, all kinds of fun stuff. A few months ago after reading material about estrogen I tried using a small pea size amount on my face a few times per week and not applying vaginally, overall using less product per week than previously. Not saying I recommend or condone action without discussing beforehand but I do see significantly more moist, less fragile facial skin. With the application of estrogen to the face, obviously estrogen is being absorbed into the bloodstream. Therefore why do we hear (little to) no suggestion of progesterone supplementation in order to combat the increased risk of uterine cancer? When my cosmetic doctor advised me to apply Estrogel to my face, my menopause specialist was extremely concerned. (Borderline furious.) She fears that this practise will become widespread and without supervision (and progesterone prescribed and taken in tandem), there will be a significant increase in uterine cancer.

@@raraavis7782sort of, there are online sources where you fill out a form with your medical information and photos and one of their doctors ALLEGEDLY reviews your case and a topical prescription cream is compounded for you. I recently got one this way that contains 0.3% estriol and 1% vit C. Before this I tried topical hormone replacement which was rubbed on my arm. After months, my blood tests showed little improvement in my hormone levels so my body was not being well absorbed. I ended up with an oral hormonal replacement. Waiting on blood test results now. Also got this topical estriol cream for my face. I have very little concern about bad side effects as I already know my body didn’t systemically absorb much. I am not happy with the horrible changes from menopause so it’s worth the risk to me. I only wish I had done this during peri-menopause. Before then my whole life I looked decades younger than my actual age. All that good care was for naught once menopause came it ruined my face, plus other bad effects! The online compounding pharmacy I used is www.musely.com

As far as I know, it requires a prescription in US, and in Australia where I live. I know as I just tried to book a zoom consultation with a top New Yotk based dermatologist in order to get a prescription for the cream (to use on my face)... but unfortunately she cannot write me a script if I live outside US. Makes sense, but I thought it was worth checking. Turns out the cream (brand name Premarin) is available in Australia, it just has to be sourced from a compounding pharmacy. Also, I thought it worth mentioning that I found out about the usage of Premarin cream (intended for vaginal dryness) on the face in an interview with with aforementioned derm. She revealed that she'd been using it herself for 20 years (!) ONLY AROUND THE EYE AREA. She also acknowledged it was a favourite with her patients also, whilst also acknowledging, as Dr Andrea does, that there's very limited scientific study for topical use in this way.

@@karenwright5168 usually the guidelines are that HRT within 10 years after your last period is safe to start. If you're past that window, you can still potentially use it but would need a cardiovascular workup first because one arteries start to harden there is more risk of issues. Did your doc take you off of HRT simply due to age? If so, they're not following the guidelines of the Menopause Society. There's no cutoff point if you're benefiting from HRT and it has such important protective benefits for bone, brain, and heart.

I have however been in complete menopause for 6 years. Not withstanding the mood disturbances I have experienced, I feel like I have aged 10 years in the last 4 years and not only do I look old but I also feel as old as I look. Joint pain, shoulder issues, outright exhaustion, etc.

You’re right. That lack of estrogen is also adversely affecting your brain (raising your odds for dementia), affecting your heart, decreasing your bone density which will lead to osteoporosis, and so much more. You should look for Dr. Kelly Casperson for information on estrogen and your overall health as well as your urologic health. The fear mongering over estrogen was due to misinterpreted data from the Women’s Health Initiative. For almost all of us, we need it and the benefits far outweigh the risks.

He has me on an estradiol patch, progesterone and T pellet as needed, so he was a bit confused. I don’t have tik-tok but ‘heard’ estrogen cream on the face was trending. I then told him I didn’t think using topically would alter my estrogen bloodwork, but will know shortly, as all hormones are tested frequently. He had his assistant call the script in for me. Haven’t been using it long enough to notice any real changes, but will continue using as long as my blood work results are not skewed.

Hi Doc, i’ve read that Vitamin C interferes with melanin production. Does this also apply to the one contained in the beard follicles for example, making it turn white sooner? And what about retinol? It does the same? I already have some whites and i’m worried. Thank you!
@KittenBowl1
@KittenBowl1 4 ай бұрын
Lol vitamin C derivatives are retexturizer, makes your surface skin smoother and not as rough very gently. It also brightens a skin tone but not like Michael Jackson’s skin. Not powerful enough to even remove darker aging spots. I mean don’t you think all women would be getting gray eyebrows if that were the case? I’ve been using vitamin c derivatives in different shapes and forms over a decade like 15+ years and my eyebrows are not gray. It’s the opposite it’s an antioxidant. And gray hair is caused by a combination of external stress and genetics (for men it’s hormones), and largely hereditary. Not vitamin C. If anything it helps. All my eyebrows are dark not even a single gray. My eyelashes are all dark and I have Asian dark hair. My hair is gray so I have to get it dyed every few months. You read and misinterpret information…

@@KittenBowl1 It seemed like a legitimate doubt to me, but I don’t have enough knowledge of biology to understand it. If Vitamin C and Vitamin A Penetrate the skin and have an effect on melanocytes by inhibiting the production of melanin, this seemed possible to me, accelerating the process. I don’t think eyebrows are the same as beard. If you look at a 60 year old man you can see that 2/3 still have black eyebrows and white hair and beard.
