Part 3: • How Every Amtrak Train...
Amtrak is one of the only passenger rail operators worldwide to name every single train they offer. But where did these names come from? With the help of @AverytheCubanAmerican I'm on my way to find out!

Happy you appreciated everything I've done for this series! And I'm always happy to help! For Vermont's name, in French, Monts would be in front of Verts as Monts-Verts, but they flipped it around for English usage. For the Pere Marquette, the train in the 2004 film The Polar Express was modeled after a steam locomotive from the Pere Marquette Railway, Pere Marquette 1225! Besides founding Sault Ste Marie, he and Louis Jolliet were the first Europeans to explore and map the Upper Mississippi in 1673. Something worth mentioning regarding the Sabal palmetto is that even though South Carolina considers it the state tree, botanically speaking, palm trees and palmettos aren't true trees! They're actually grass! Their leaves are fibrous and frond-like, and they grow in abundance from the trunk of the tree. In addition to this, palm trees lack the bark that is a fundamental characteristic of trees! With their method of growth, they begin as small seeds that germinate and sprout into a plant. As the plant grows, it produces a single, trunk-like stem that can grow up to 100 feet tall. This structure provides support for a palm tree's extensive canopy of leaves. And before the Winter Park Express, the Rio Grande ran the Ski Train to the resort from 1940 to 1988! In the 1960s, 22-car trains to Winter Park were regularly moving an estimated 1,800 passengers! In 1988 the operation was sold to Ansco Investment Company, and they operated it until 2009 due to escalating costs such as liability insurance coverage, operational conflicts with freight traffic, and substantial uncertainties posed by the redevelopment of Denver Union Station, all combined with the recession at the time. Iowa Pacific Holdings made a bid to revive the Ski Train using idle equipment from SL&RG's subsidiary, Rio Grande Scenic Railroad but these plans fell through as Amtrak, who would've been supplying the staff, classified the Ski Train as a commuter operation instead of an excursion train, and Iowa Pacific sued them due to that resulting in higher liability insurance.

If Amtrak ever gets to Scranton, PA. Amtrak should call that service "Amtrak's Phoebe Snow Service"

Wolverine facts: Wolverines are native to the Arctic and subarctic regions of North America, Europe, and Asia. They prefer habitats undisturbed by humans, including grasslands, alpine forests, taiga, boreal forests, and tundra. As the largest terrestrial member of the Mustelidae, or weasel, family, wolverines are cousins to animals such as otters, ferrets, and honey badgers. Wolverines are known for their tenacity and fierceness beyond their size. They have battled grizzly bears, bull moose, wolves and won. Considering they weigh about 30-50 pounds, that’s pretty impressive. Wolverines are solitary for most of the year, usually coming together only to mate. After a breeding season that lasts from April to August, females remain pregnant for approximately 215 days. When nearing birth, the mother wolverine digs a deep snow den that may have tunnels 15 feet from the surface. Litters tend to include two to four kits, each of which is born with its eyes closed, no teeth, and a soft coat of blond hair. Wolverines are predators and scavengers that eat whatever they can. Wolverines live in vast territories where food is scarce. So, when one finds something edible, the wolverine will eat as much as possible, returning to a carcass many times until it’s been picked clean. They would love to eat a moose or deer leg frozen in the snow. Their scientific name Gulo gulo actually comes from the latin word for glutton!

Some of my route proposals include: - Boston-Albany: Increase service as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (abbreviated COMM OF MASS on departure boards) - Boston-Chicago: Keep the Lake Shore Limited name, but don't split the train to New York - New York-Chicago: Water Level Limited, honoring the New York Central's nickname of the Water Level Route - New York-Toronto: Currently the Maple Leaf, rename to De Witt Clinton for my favorite 19th-century New York Governor and also the first locomotive in New York. - Boston-Toronto: Give this service the Maple Leaf name - Northeast Regional: Bring back all the names, cowards - Detroit-Nashville-New Orleans: Melody, for these cities' musical history - Seattle-Denver: Pioneer, a former name - Chicago-Miami: South Wind, a former name - Boston-Halifax night train: Gull, a former name - Boston-Bangor day train: Pine Tree, ME state nickname - Boston-Concord: Granite State, NH state nickname

The Valley Flyer is also the name of a state sponsored bus route in Virginia from Blacksburg to Washington DC launched in 2017. It was the first of the four routes that now make up the Virginia breeze bus network. More states should follow Virginia's example and create similar bus networks for their states. It's actually a really good deal for the taxpayers.

How did you manage to get Aleena from Miles in Transit to do a cameo in the video? I hear Miles demands a pretty big fee for use of characters from his videos

If I were to change anything, i would change the name for the northeast regional trains that go into Virginia to be "old Dominion flyer" in reference to Virginia's nickname, the old Dominion

I found these videos to be quite informative! I enjoyed seeing my city's Amtrak service, the _Pacific_ _Surfliner,_ be included. Also, the S's in _Verts_ _Monts_ are silent (like many pluralization S's in French), hence the pronunciation of Vermont. Thanks for the video!

2:11 it’s actually St. Joachim in anglicized & 4:19 Vert is pronounced like Verre Mons (t is barely audible). I feel like Super Chief sounds more striking, but it’s not the same without the Warbonnet livery…unless they have a special livery that Amtrak uses it along with it, sure. Be funny by the time the Vermonter comes back to Montreal as the Montrealer, you should make a new video haha
