Thank you for the interesting video! 2:24 I'm curious why are we assuming the same pressure? Isn't it more logical to assume the same weight that pushes on the spinal disc? Then the pressure (which is weight times surface) scales down by radius squared, so the tension on the walls is smaller, proportional to the radius.

Your content is so interesting and well done! And I'm glad you noted that back pain (much like cancer and arthritis) isn't something that would be selected against in nature, since most people reach reproductive age well before experiencing debilitating back pain. I've seen students get confused about this--that evolution does not create perfectly optimized organisms, but simply ones that can survive well enough in their niche to produce viable offspring.

I suppose from this that pelvic tilt either plays a large role or is an indicator of potential disc herniation. I'm gonna stretch out those hamstrings and calves.

It's not the case. Very unfortunately. The major reason of the Spine problems - is our posture (starting from the feet) and obesity! Humans are designed to live with perfect vertebrae till 85 years old, we should not destroy our spine by ourselves. Just correcting the anterior pelvic tilt (I'm sure that you know it) will cut 95% of all hernias cases! Type me if you wish to chat about that.

Having to fix an evolutionary pelvis tilt means we haven’t evolved past that problem
