Something I want to point out that I missed is that the chaulk board says the fall of Shady Sands happened in 2277, which is before the events of Fallout New Vegas in 2281. It's unclear if this is when it was blown up or if this is when it started to decline and then was blown up later after Fallout New Vegas. Either way, this just adds more confusion to the whole thing.

@fatmac11c It doesn't say start of it's simply the fall of. Which is extraordinarily inconsistent especially how in 81 we hear a bunch about Shady Sands and how it's still a seat of governance.

It 100% is not intended to be interpreted as "the bomb went off in 2077." By the logic of the diagram: an event happens, followed by an arrow denoting that time has passed, followed by the next chronological event. None of the events before the bomb happen together, so therefore the bomb would not have gone off in 2077. My best guess is they wanted to leave the exact date of the bomb ambiguous to give themselves room for writing season 2.

You can see in the ending credits of the last season 1 Falloutv episode that Vegas is in utter ruins and that a huge battle took place between NCR and Vegas destroying the city, possibly Cesar's Legion is destroyed too. Bethesda wanted to revert the west coast to the conditions thing were in fallout 1, a desolate wasteland. Perhaps take the reins away from Obsidian, since New Vegas outshines alot of the work Bethesda did.

everyone keeps fucking forgetting that house NEVER wanted the NCR to fall, as he saw them as a customer and a source of income. He also stated that, should you go for the house ending, that he expects there to be a dip in revenue for about 2ish years as the situation in the NCR is stabilized a bit, as at that point he would have full control over hoover dam which he intended to fully repair and bring it back to full power output, which he can then sell to both the NCR and the nevada area. In the end Houses ultimate plan was .SPACE. COLONIZATION, where he state's and I quote "With all that money porin in? Give me 20 years, and I will reignite the high technology sector, 50 years and I will have people in orbit. 100 years, and my colony ships will be heading for the stars, to search for planets unpolluted by the wrath and folly of a bygone generation", this is Houses ultimate plan. In the s1 episode 8 end credits you can see Vegas is utterly destroyed in a great battle between NCR and Vegas, Todd Howard also said NCR may exist in " some form" in a recent interview, so he doesn't want humanity to develop and society to slowly build itself back together. He wants it to perpetually be a desolate wasteland with people living fairly primitives save for BoS and Enclave factions. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the cities of NCR got hit by nukes or by terrible catastrophies of other sorts. Just a theory. Maybe the NCR in the North- East Mojave were kept in the dark about how badly Shady Sands was actually failing leading up to the Battle for Hoover Dam to save morale, perhaps with the exception of high ranking officials like Oliver and Moore. The NCR was notorious for spreading itself thin and this would have been a perfect time for an opposing faction to attack it's capital with a vast percentage of it's forces being across the Mojave compromising defences. After the NCR lost to Mr House, they returned to Shady Sands to find it wiped out by Hank who saw the city's upheaval as an opportunity to eliminate what he saw as a threat to Vault-tec's monopoly on civilization. Also, Elder McNamara already knew of the NCR's incompetence in the region thanks to Courier 6 and could have gotten word to the other chapters which would explain the Brotherhood's superior presence in the area. Hopefully, the showrunners will put some kind of explanation, perhaps like this, together in the next season. And what was the BOS doing at Shady Sands when it got nuked? In the show, a young Maximus is saved by a Brotherhood knight. Could the Brotherhood have possibly indirectly assisted in the fall of Shady Sands leading up to it's destruction. The NCR had a lot of enemies like the Great Khans and the BOS would have had no problem enlisting a bunch of similar tribes to do their dirty work for them (potentially escaping retribution if such an attack failed) while assisting with weapons and resources behind the scenes. The BOS weren't exactly on good terms with the NCR, had a history with them; the latest exchange being at Helios One in 2276; one year before the supposed fall of Shady Sands. Again, just theories.

It also totally fits in with the game since it's mentioned that Shady Sands wasn't supporting much/if at all in the Mojave, and Kimball showing up was a publicity stunt to try and make it seem like they were bolstering the further reaches of the NCR (and to get out of a heating up Shady Sands since the nuke ends up dropping one year after the events of NV).

@@niccolo2116 The NCR is not boring. It's interesting having a faction that is literally a country/nation formed after the collapse of civilization. Every other faction besides the Legion is either disorganized raiders, one settlement, or a thinly spread organization. House plans to build his own empire and rule it as a dictator. House is a corrupt, greedy tyrant who severely punishes anyone who won't bend the knee to him or who tries to side with anyone else. You can find this out very easily in-game even if you only talk to House. He's egotistical and manipulative. People complain about the NCR's taxes but at least they don't take 50% of the revenue you make. His planned utopia has all power centralized around him and him alone. If he dies, his new civilization fall apart. No, the NCR isn't simply "just surviving". It's a nation big enough and organized enough to have the same issues any nation inevitably gets afflicted with. Even then, the only reason its currency has lost value was because of a BoS terrorist attack that blew up most of the NCR's gold reserves. The NCR is big and has a competent (and strong) enough military to that House literally needs a securitron upgrade and an army of securitrons to be able to kick them out of the Mojave. Yes, they needed to go east to get more water but we literally find out from an NCR Ranger that they only needed to find more because they previously mismanaged the lakes and wells in California in the past.

The presence of the BoS at Shady Shand could be explain by the Eastern Brotherooh sending reinforcement to the West. In the first episode, the order to pursue the target come from the chapter in the Commonwealth. This indicated that the BoS win in Fallout 4 (or the Minutemen but it seem less likely). After this victory, Maxson would surely send help to the Western BoS, which was in a dire situation. That would explain why Western BoS would recruit wastelanders like we saw in the show: they adopted some practise of the East. These BoS reinforcements are probably an other explanation for the NCR fall. It would be much harder for the NCR to fight a Brotherhood which can reconstitute it's rank by recruiting Wastelander. Then with Shady Sand destroyed, the NCR probably disintegrated, which each community going independent instead of supporting each other.

No it isn't a retcon because he can still predict years and years before they told him and still act like he is on board so as to not arouse suspicion. And the meeting definitely isn't in 2065 or earlier because the bombs are dropped in 2077 and the Ghoul's daughter still looks near the same age which is easy to tell with children. House isn't just greedy, he did the right thing and could have protected the Mojave if his courier had delivered the chip to him sooner. Also the brotherhood could have been at Shady Sands because they had a place at lost hills. The legion could have still kept the buildings up and such but I do believe House is the winner. Also I feel Hank is just a bit deluded about House being a friend since everything points to him betraying the mission of vault tec to kill the surface dwellers and make everything controlled by vaults and a new society. House probably did use the meetings to his benefit like the vault right in vegas that is focused on gambling then hundreds of years later house gambles them to rejoin society.

My personal theory: Yes Man is the canon path, and Yes Man was always a Trojan horse developed by Enclave and left inside Vault 21 on purpose…as they know House was doing his own thing and thus a potential uncontrollable variable in the future. Basically, Vault Tec deliberately made the most lavish vault right underneath House’s nose that they knew House couldn’t resist opening. Little did he know that inside lay the code for a program that could override his control. Knowing he’d take the bait, seal the vault, and that the offer to control the strip would be too good to refuse for those on the surface. We also know in the game that the citizens of Vault 21 felt betrayed by House, and could have themselves been enablers of this path. Whomever ‘controlled’ Yes Man would be temporary. Eventually his program goes AWOL and destroys Vegas until someone senior at Vault Tec comes in (which is where Hank comes into the picture). This also explains potentially why there’s so many NCR related vehicles destroyed. Perhaps when going AWOL they went after NCR too and they spent a lot of resources pacifying the robot army. He probably doesn’t know this going there and is just looking for Mr House, but it’ll be revealed that not only did Vault Tec kill Mr House technically, but also started the war. In a way it’s a double twist: a twist in the show AND a twist that you the player were manipulated in FNV

NCR wins, but due to corruption, and perhaps external events, including Fall of Shady Sands, Vegas is abandoned/overrun over time. Legion Wins, after 2nd Battle of Hoover Dam, fighting takes place in New Vegas, now occupied by NCR. New Vegas is virtually destroyed, but the Legion collapses due to death of Caesar, infighting, and disloyal tribes. Just a few headthoughts. Graham Wagner, one of the showrunners was quoted saying the writers wanted to avoid making any of the game endings cannon. As it would invalidate the experience of the gamers and what they perceived to be "their" favorite endings. So, just speculation here... but my guess is they will avoid making any of the endings cannon, while writing scenarios that would've conquered any of the winning faction(s) that eventually happened in New Vegas and the Mojave. So, for example, if House would have won... the Enclave (or someone else) eventually went in and took him out. Hence, the evidence of the destruction in the credits of Episode 8.

In fact the NCR in the TV show just showed they're at worse state than in New Vegas, the only explaination we can get is NCR loss the Hoover Dam. -Legion Ending: It wouldn't make sense because if that's the case then the Legion will be the main antagonists of the Fallout TV show and we didn't see a single hint of Caesar's Legion's existence in the show. -Independent Ending: This one is the 2nd most likely ending they gonna choose, but it felt like a terrible decision because this in-turn will make Courier (our character) to be a developing character which goes against the intent of having a Player Character in NV on the first place, it's playing too much with fire and a bad decision by itself House's ending felt like the most made sense out of all the scenario that the Fallout TV series made

how they showed a destroyed Shady Sands was the weirdest part for me. The biggest city with the greatest infrastructure in the whole west-coast was nuked because someone's wife left him with a child, guy kidnaps a child and nukes a capital of NCR (with what exactly?), and also why is Shady Sands are shown as fully dead city? NCR is big and has around 700,000 citizens, alot of resources and money, infrastructure that is connecting NCRs cities, there must be buildings and life around the city or at least where is a new NCR capital? im so confused, Bethesda fucked up Fallout lore once again, first time being addition to Fallout's lore whole experiments and enclave hyperbolisation, maximizing on it's absurdity. Even tho this is "canon", as we can see in Fallout 3, why the hell would Vault-Tec nuke themselves, if this is literally kills all of their work and effort, destroys their business and future? they would make much more money, if peace talks were successful, because they would make people buy vaults positions "just in case", for safe future.

I just realized something with this video. If the enclave, and vaultech by extension had this limitless cold fusion energy, why didn't they use it to take over the wasteland? I mean you could maybe argue. They didn't know that there were vault tech employees still around, but I'm pretty sure in real life just about every encryption can be broken if given enough time and resources. The enclave would have both of those. Especially before the Oil rig was destroyed. Maybe there's an in-universe explanation but it seems like a plot hole to me.

Personal theory, both his predictions and the show occurred as stated. He may have decided that they were a chaotic lot that had little chance of succeeding but may provide useful intel and access to resources. They did a very poor job considering their power pre-war. House saw this as a sign of the coming end and accelerated his plans. The cabal talks and plays around with ideas until Vault tec makes contact with the early Enclave who really like the idea of wiping the slate clean. Seeing how poorly organized and ruthless the group is they decided to jumpstart the process with Valut tec. Taking the responsibility away from the cabal and giving him little reason to talk about it post war. Most of the reason that House was doing poorly in the game is he was missing one chip from pre-war. Seems a bit coincidental that this would be hard to get on zero hour unless the members either weren't notified or only some of them were. If he had the chip pre-Fallout Vegas would have been untouched by the missiles and probably a thriving city-state. His attitude doesn't fit either, being a lot more diplomatic about how he ran the city as opposed to the crazy/autocratic plans of the Enclave and Bit MT.

Mind, more than capitalism I believe that House cares more about being a figure from the past that can be remembered in the future. He states quite clearly that in a century with enough power he can send people to space and given more people would be able to escape the earth to look for other planets to colonize. He's a visionary, ruthless and cold as he may be, he cares. And he is Mister House, a man whose company skyrocketed and built some of the greatest inventions ever made in all manner of fields.

Overall, I agree with the points, and I think you make a good argument, but there are a few things to note: While not explicit, the show seems extremely keen on establishing that Vault-Tec *didn't* actually drop the nukes. They definitely intended to, but intending to do it doesn't mean actually being the ones to have done it. The opening scene of the show itself goes against this notion, given that: 1) One of their highest ranking members's daughter was out and about when the nukes dropped, someone so high rank, they were negotiating deals with the most powerful people in the country, and according to the last episode had to still be in contact with Vault-Tec when the nukes dropped, on account of the Ghoul demanding to know where his wife and daughter are from a Vault-Tec employee, something that would only make sense if they ended up going to a Vault somewhere. 2) If we assume Mr. House never openly betrayed Vault-Tec's trust, it makes no sense he wouldn't have known when the bombs would drop if Vault-Tec was indeed the one dropping the bombs. Given his high influence, he could have most likely even asked for a day or two's delay for the sake of finishing the platinum chip on time... The Platinum chip that mind you completely flies against everything Vault-Tec wants, and would heavily imply he's only playing along with Vault-Tec/The Enclave's madness so they don't grow suspicious of him and discover his doomsday prepping. Come to think of it, the one way I could see Vault-Tec still being the ones to drop the nukes, would be if they had discovered House's plot, and acted at the last minute, so he couldn't throw a wrench in their plans by saving part of the surface like he did. It would also explain why the Enclave (who is implied to be tied to Vault-Tec like you said) would be butchering Vault Dwellers in Fallout 2. They could be targetting RobCo vaults specifically. Also, honestly, his presence at the meeting isn't really a retcon. What he said about predicting the end of the world, about doing so in 2065 means there was a 12 year gap between him starting his preparations and the actual end of the world. Meanwhile, based on the daughter's appearence, we can clearly see this meeting took place not long before the actual apocalypse, maybe two or three years at most if we suspend our disbelief a little bit given that obviously they couldn't have aged the child actress between shooting scenes. He's shown entirely non-plus'd by Vault-Tec's plan to blow up the world, which frankly would make perfect sense if we assume by this time he already knew that the world's days were numbered. At most he learned at that meeting that Vault-Tec is another group of bomb happy lunaitcs ready to pull the trigger. I especially appreciate that every time he's on screen and opens his mouth, it's just to question what Vault-Tec is going to do, and cast shade on their ideas. His overall motivations are intentionally not made clear, but his main goal in the scene is clearly to figure out where everyone stands and what to expect. (Also, this is neither here nor there, and while I kind of get why people over idolize the NCR, it's always strange to hear people sing their praises while in Fallout 2 they are somehow more corrupt than New Reno and Vault City, betray other factions' trusts in multiple of that game's endings to enact military coups, literally can become Enclave 2.0 if their Presidente for Life Tandi's iron rule isn't reinforced by the Chosen One helping her terrorize a bunch of refugees, said Presidente for Life in not so subtle ways is implied to have had her father and his right hand man assassinated - because let's be honest, the head of state and the minister of defense 'dying while looking for a vault to check up on an old friend' and the new president staying in office for multiple decades is an utterly insane thing to just casually establish totally happened exactly as she claims - only for then New Vegas to double down on them being a blatant parody of the worst parts of the US with open jingoism, 'accidental' genocides, shooting deserpate wastelanders for trying to use a previously freely available water purfier that the NCR 'acquired', intentional destabilization of communities so they can swoop in and be heroes, hiring the most hilariously unqualified people for important jobs because clearly their chain of command is a joke and most likely built entirely around nepotism, and more. Also the show now has their remnants openly have a borderline Dunwich death cult. I get that the NCR's propaganda is pretty good in New Vegas, but come on. Just because Kimball doesn't start stroking a white cat in his chair while detailing his secret evil plot in the final act, it doesn't mean they aren't just a more open minded version of the Enclave from Fallout 3 that also had all those lovely things to show and say via their Eyebots, radio and billboards. #MacLeanDidNothingWrong #UlyssesShouldHaveNukedFirst)

House explained his process, there was a probability of the nukes happening year after year, added up over multiple years, it was pretty much a certainty. It’s similar to, for example, someone having a 1 in 3 chance every year of getting a broken leg. Over the years, this probability repeating makes it a certainty. The probability, however, doesn’t tell you exactly which year you will break your leg. But it does tell you that with the risk repeating year after year that it should be treated as a certainty.

You miss the point with the Brotherhood and NCR. They are not really enemies, but they follow a different idea. The brotherhood are remaining military personnel while the ncr is more like a biiig militia. Especially, after shady sands was destroyed, the NCR is highly weakened. I would not wonder that in S2 they will meet more of regular NCR troops and no longer „militia“ like Moldaver has. There is also no reason why the NCR and Brotherhood wouldn’t work together. But if the brotherhood would get the feeling of „falling behind“, they would go into action against the NCR in a large scale. The Brotherhood in the Amazon series also doesn’t give the vibes of the game brotherhood

2:15 I don't think the threat was a loss of profits-- the threat was a looming debt crisis. Vault-Tec the organization was on shaky footing thanks to selling junk bonds (high interest rate, with little expectation to repay), spending profits on purchasing other companies, and going massively over-budget on some Vaults under construction circa 2077. So the risk wasn't becoming unprofitable, it's the exposure of the fact that they're actually severely underwater. The urgency to start a nuclear exchange was to at least sell more beds and issue more junk bonds to scale the company up another level (think of it as a 1000-Vault plan) on that new fear. Actually starting the end of the world probably isn't the intent, as that shuts the spigot off. No more laps of luxury, no more victory laps, no more cushy jobs or long vacations etc. The fear of the end of the world garnered them massive profits. The reality of the end of the world rendered them all quite fragile. So my view is that Vault-Tec was intimately involved in making nuclear threats and intended to acquire a nuclear bomb which they'd then detonate in or near California (perhaps with Vault 12 downwind) or D.C., with D.C. probably the preferred target. That'd probably be timed to obliterate most of the entire Congress, Senate, Supreme Court, and any oversight agencies while retaining the those in the know (the Enclave). A million or more civilians (many of them bureaucrats) would die. But the Vaults could be populated and sealed with the selected populations. In the confusion (the Vault Dwellers think a nuclear war actually occurred and will voluntarily stay locked up), Vault-Tec could get more of the biggest government contracts ever and have another decade (or more) of actual profits while they're using the first ~120 Vaults for new experiments and exporting the technology for a generation ship off of this rock. I don't think a US first strike on China makes sense as there was some chance that China might have capitulated and Vault-Tec needed to be sure that wasn't an option. As for what actually happened, I suspect that the USA's incursions into China were reaching a tipping point. Either China thought that the USA was nearly ready to launch first or China decided for other reasons to launch first (as cities of critical importance, including Shanghai, were being invaded). So China gets the messages out and coordinates a first strike on the USA. The Enclave, Vault-Tec, and others like Robert House were caught flat-footed as the first nuke arrived earlier than expected and rapidly compounded into multiple confirmed strikes, far beyond what Vault-Tec actually expected. (Cooper Howard was allowed to have Janey that morning. Barb would never have let her daughter be there if Vault-Tec expected TEOTWAWKI to happen that very morning. She (and they) were expecting the nuclear exchange to start very soon, perhaps that evening or the next day.

Incorrect on its face: New Vegas is not seen as a bright spot in the desert. Quite the opposite in fact, the walls are breached, there was a major battle, and everything is dark. Therefore, House was NOT successful. The only way the games make sense to the lore of the series is if the player character is killed moments after they take control (unarguably the most common ending among all games). This means that Fallout 2 cannot be canon because it's based on the Vault Dweller founding Arroyo, and more importantly, the West Coast Enclave survives (also explains why they were able to deploy in D.C. in Broken Steel). This means that the Courier was killed soon after leaving Doc Mitchell's house (probably by mantis nymphs), that the Mr. House ending CANNOT be canon (New Vegas would be seen as thriving instead of having a breached wall and dead Securitrons.), that Benny tried to make contact with the Great Khans but failed, that none of the 4 cinematic endings in New Vegas are canon, and that the destruction of Hoover Dam (not a potential ending in NV, I tried) must have been the only possible result to see the ending we do. This does however mean that House still exists in a low-power Lucky 37, though all of the other casinos, and indeed Freeside and North Vegas are all abandoned. Goodsprings, overrun by Powder Gangers, is probably the only viable remaining location, as I expect Boone to have called the Legion's attention to Novac and the NCR presence in Primm and McCarren to have caused the Legion to eradicate them before the dam was destroyed. 188 trading post no longer functions as a crossroads, so it too dissolved. Perhaps a raider settlement in Camp Golf exists due to its access to fresh water and mirelurks. The Boomers will also still exist.

House would never let that happen to Vegas and pretty much everyone including the courier had interest in his death. Im guessing when they find the Lucky 38, Yes man will be there, if anyone. I doubt they will directly show a protagonist, even one is famous as Courier. We could see characters like the Kings that arent removed return however.
