I’ve always been partial to the idea that the reason Mills takes the whole “honor” approach to trying to deal with Haytham is because the British Brotherhood still highly values what Edward did for them in the years leading up to his death. They know Haytham may be a Templar, but there’s likely a large contingent of the Brotherhood who would much prefer to see the son of such a legendary Assassin return to the fold rather than just be killed like any other Templar. We even see Mills offer Haytham the chance to surrender and promises he’ll be treated with honor if he does, and only gives him the sword when Haytham makes it clear he has no intention of surrendering. All my own personal opinions, of course, but I think it’s a decent explanation for why Mills doesn’t take the standard Assassin approach for dealing with the son of Edward Kenway.

Also, don't forget that Connor is a BEAST in melee/hand to hand combat, so the game wasn't designed around too much stealth. You can stealth a lot however but the game is designed mostly, with action in mind. Prime example : cross the battlefield without taking damage. It is possible if you run from cover to cover when the enemies are reloading OR free running on trees to get to your destination. That would be the stealth part but it feels more like an action sequence. Overall it feels kinda like Splinter Cell Conviction. Stealth or all out war, it's your choice.

Fun fact: The Green Dragon Tavern is an actual place. I found that out recently.

17:48 a really interesting detail I never noticed is that Haytham's left Hidden Blade is broken. There's a little piece of the actual blade broken off/chipped off. See, Haytham's left Hidden Blade belonged to Edward, his father, so there's a chance that it got damaged during the fight that took his life. Haytham's right Hidden Blade belonged to Miko, and was taken by Haytham after he Assassinated him (Miko is the Opera Target, btw). This is why you can notice that his left and right Hidden Blades don't look similar.

Okay, this will be a great learning opportunity Stalking zones and hiding spots do not protect you from investigations. Because the guard saw you enter, he knows you're in there and you'll be kicked out the other side or the game won't even let you crouch down to begin with. In order to break an investigation and change the guard's waypoint to a last known position check, you must break line of sight using hard cover. The bush wasn't what saved you there, it was the box next to the bush. Besides that you can blind the guard with a smoke throw, distract him by poisoning someone nearby, or of course eliminate him. The detection meter ticks up incredibly slowly even in restricted areas where investigations are instant, so charging in and holding down the attack button to kill him on the first available frame is a valid strategy against singular targets Bodies making noise when they hit the ground is nothing new to the series, but AC3 made a few changes. First, the range at which this occurs is incredibly long. This introduces our first essential concept: Potential Line of Sight (PLOS). This is a secondary detection system used for awareness of things outside a guard's actionable line of sight like projectiles being fired and high profile actions. Essentially they have eyes in the backs of their heads that react to a list of stimuli you must commit to memory, because they will turn around as soon as you trigger this. What differentiates this from a sound system such as in classic Splinter Cell is that hard cover nullifies it, so you only need to worry about the PLOS of enemies who *could* see you - because they will. That's why the second guard on the dock came after you. It wasn't random at all. In fact you got lucky the stimulus didn't qualify for an instant detection like most of them do. To avoid this, you need to use the unarmed chokeout, which is completely silent. In AC3 you must use the right weapon for the right scenario. Second, low profile assassinations allow you to regain control of your ancestor long before your target's death animation completes so you can predict that the falling body will trigger PLOS and change position before that happens. But if you're not paying attention, the reaction will come several seconds *after* you made a mistake, so you may not notice that you've messed up until it's too late. The trick here is that assassinating someone in a guard's *actionable* line of sight does nothing until the body hits the ground, which introduces our second major concept: Chain assassinations. When up to about 4-5 guards are standing next to each other, you can hold the attack button and move between them to connect one assassination to the next until the first body hits the ground. Because they have no idea that someone has just been murdered until they fall over, you'll move so fast they can't possibly react in time. You don't need double assassinations because these are twice as effective. If you're playing AC3R the retroactively added double assassinations will make this almost impossible because they're too slow to be chainable as well as forcing you to drop power weapons such as that musket that got left behind on the roof, so make sure to get a disc or crack of the original so you can use the system as intended. This is also why you should give yourself a second chance at this challenge in AC3 classic now that you undestand how the detection system works, because playing AC3R without being properly trained on the game is maximally unfair to you. The demaster is also responsible for introducing the most severe bugs Hmm... I'm gonna have to ask Jcers about this one. Be right back

I stoped playing AC after black flag, it has been years, and considering how AC 2 was the best game of my childhood, this video remindes me why i stoped playing AC all togeather. After AC 2 game was focused less and less on stealth, the only reason I played Black flag was, well pirates, and its fuckign awsome, but its not AC as far as im conserned. Curently I am replaying AC1 after more than a decade, and AC 2 is waiting in library and this video is such a good reminder of why i quit the series.

People rag on the RPG games for not being stealthy at all but even during the earlier entries, stealth only never felt viable unless they explicitly desync you for being spotted or put it as an optional sync.
