I've had 5 Mustangs, and 4 F150's in my lifetime. I have never been disappointed by Ford's performance or reliability. I spent 22yrs on a Drilling rig, and all the dirt and mud that comes with it.

I knew about exactly how far you were going to go. I have a 2014 f150 5.0 (36 gal) 4x4 3.55 diff. And my drive home from work is 30 mi, I knew there were gas stations on my way home so I didn't care much. But I did my drive home and drove to the gas station the day after on 0 to E, also was below freezing outside, a little nerve racking but i was impressed. The 5.0 is a lot more fuel sipping than people think. I average about 20 mpg vs my 2012 3.5 which averaged maybe 15. Can't wait to see what it will be like with the 10 speed.

I did this test on my F150 not by choice and when I fueled soon after reaching 0 miles I put gas on my truck expecting 36 gals at the pump and it was more like 33-34 until full, so it lead me to believe there's a 3 gal "reserve" when you hit 0 til empty.

I did this with my then new 2007 F150 Lariat (5.4L V8)... I also made it well past 40 miles... conked out going up hill, near sea level. So I thought I had plenty of margin the day I drove it to zero miles after driving to Albuquerque from Lubbock. Made it maybe 2 miles past zero and it died. Fortunately a gas station was in walking distance... but keep in mind... when driving in mountainous areas, and/or higher elevation - YMMV. :) Side note, my F150 just hit 235,000 miles... and still going strong. Love my F150! Thanks for the vlog!

I am a guy who does long distance vehicle pick ups for a Ford Dealer in Jersey. I have been from Jersey to Boston area and as far south as Virginia to pick up vehicles. Some dealerships fill up the tanks and then there are others that give me cars and trucks with 0 miles to empty Preston Hurlock Maryland among others. My dealership gives me an Exxon card and try finding an Exxon Station in some of these areas. So I really appreciate this video. Well done!

That's good to know. Once I hit 0 miles on I-90 between Buffalo and Gillette Wyoming and went about 35 miles on 0. Thank God I made it to Gillette! It was a Chevy Suburban too! In Wyoming there is a town every 100 miles or so!

I've told all of my customers that "0 miles to empty" in a Ford really means "you have 50 miles to get to a fueling station." I got an F-150 with a 36 gal. tank off the convoy one day that just hit '0'. When I filled it, it only took 33.48 gal. Must've calculated that based on the rating it was getting, it needed 2.52 gal. to go 50 miles.

I did the same thing to my 15’ 2.7 and when mine hit 0. I’ve done your same thing, I managed to get 78 miles when hit 0 and my average MPG was 30.3 The more you’re on the throttle the more it’s gonna consume fuel. You have to be efficient to get accurate results. You were just burning through fuel passing people when you didn’t even have to just stay the same steady speed and maximize the MPG

As someone who recently changed out my gas tank in my F150 , going from a 23 gal tank to a 36 gallon, I could of answered this question. I got my tank down to zero and pulled the tank and it still had almost five gallons in it. Which would translate to around 100miles of range on an empty tank in highway driving.

I’ve done it with my 2014 Toyota RAV4. My range hits 0 around 20 miles after my gas light comes on. I did it during the lockdowns because I was waiting for the price of fuel to bottom out during the lockdowns last year. Although I let my car sit for a lot of it and only used it sparingly for 2 months for trips to Office Depot for school supplies. One time I went to get school supplies and my car wouldn’t start in my driveway. It was out of gas at 67 miles after the gas light came on which is the equivalent of 47 miles on 0 range. There was probably also some varnish in the tank from letting my car sit. The furthest I’ve pushed it was 78 miles after the gas light came on (58 miles on 0 range) and second farthest was 74 after the gas light came on when I went 510.3 miles on a single tank driving on flat terrain in New Jersey and Delaware and rolling hills in Pennsylvania

We took the beartooth highway out of Yellowstone in our F150. We were really nervious when the range kept dropping through the high pass. The range went to 0 about 10 miles outside of Red Lodge. We were happy it was all down hill from there. It seems we were fine based on this video.

In my Acura TL ive driven 118 miles once it said 0

Most newer vehicles are designed this way. When the gas gauge reads empty, or it tells you "0" miles to empty, it really isn't. There is more like 2-5 gallons left. They do this for a few reasons. To keep the fuel pump cool and lubed with the oil in the gas, even when the gauge reads empty, and to make sure you get gas before the tank is actually empty. The fuel pump and strainer sit on the very bottom of the tank, while the float for the fuel level is about an and inch or two above the bottom of the tank when it is empty. Now, you already mentioned the comments, but it can lead to premature fuel pump failure if you constantly do this, but one time may not hurt anything.

Been trying to figure this out as well. Took mine down to 6 MTE then completely filled with 30.9 gallons in a 36 gallon tank.

It really disturbs how many moronic drivers, who had all the room and time in the world, didn't move over for you into the left lane when they could clearly see you standing there fueling your truck. The Move Over Law should not just apply to emergency vehicles stopped in the shoulder, but ALL vehicles stopped in the shoulder. It's common sense!
