How Fast Are Capped 2G Speeds? LTE vs 3G vs 2G Data Speed Test!

Many plans include unlimited 2G data after your high speed allotment. Ever wonder how fast 2G speeds actually are? In this video I compare LTE vs 3G vs 2G cellular data speeds.
Fun facts: This video was originally filmed in 2016 for RingPlus. They were interested in testing how the different data speed caps impacted network performance and usability for various tasks such as web browsing, video streaming, and music streaming.
They were able to change the data speed cap of my plan on the back end so I could test the performance. This video took multiple days to shoot, edit, and compile the results. Hopefully it wasn't too weird hearing 2016 Stetson end the video :)
And special thank you to RingPlus for making this video possible. 🙏🏻

I would say yes 2G is unusable and heck 3G is barely usable for the mainstream user as people are always on Facebook, Tik Tok, KZfaq Snapchat and ect just anything that has a autoplay feature/content enable on, I say 3g is only usable for chatting, email and streaming music that's it not social media site/app

T-Mobile will migrate the Sprint frequencies and LTE bands to the T-Mobile network. The back end will change to combine all the LTE bands under one network and make it seamless to switch between them. As a Sprint customer, you will gain access to the T-Mobile network. Your phone will be using GSM technology.

Ah... I really missed 2G speed as most of the places provides 4G and 5G nowadays. But most telcos provide 512kbps unlimited once hit FUP limit of 50GB-60GB for their so called "unlimited 3mbps" or "unlimited 6mbps". 512kbps is barely minimum to stream 360p videos and stream music at high quality at 256kbps AAC bitrate. But I heard that the quota based high speed 4G/5G data either cut off the entire internet or just slow down to 256kbps or 512kbps nowadays compared to back in the day where they provides 64kbps or 128kbps when hit certain limit of quota. Some just cut off the internet when hit the quota and need to top up the data to continue using.

Also please keep in mind that the carrier makes a lot of different. For example, a reliable AT&T connection with 10mbps is much faster then a sprint 50mbps. A sprint unlimited LTE is completely useless, your better off going with a capped 8gb LTE from at&t because you can actually USE it.

This "capped at 3G speeds" giving you 512 kbps is really false marketing. 3G/HSPA+ can easily give you 10 mbps, I remember getting 20+ back in the day if I was within line of sight of the cell tower. So they just limit you to 512 kbps and call that "3G speeds", which is false marketing but I guess it's not illegal for some reason.

I usually put down more than half on my devices to start then pay them off within months. It's honestly the best way to go if you can swing it although everybody has a different situation. I'm just not willing to pay less anymore for low quality service. Did T-Mobile years ago and regardless of what others say it isn't equal or above AT&T and Verizon even today in any aspect. Those fast speeds and decent call quality last a few miles and that's it. In a mall or building T-Mobile is non existent. Forget about going on long road trips with T-Mobile. T-Mobile says 2G ( 256k) but it's even near 1G most of the time around 10-12k up or down. I dumped T-Mo long time ago!

LTE for me better than 3g and 4g even if I am far away from signal places cuz when I enter my sim card into my laptop it works perfectly good with LTE signal and when I enter it into my phone which works with 2g 3g and 4g.. I don't feel comfortable with it..

T-Mobile 3G is misleading because 3G it self achieve higher than that speed (512kbps) be all they got going for is that they say there 3G only runs at that speed and not like the full 3G capability speed which is higher then that speed

You talking about H+ which is technically 3G+ regular 3G was 2mbps tops so 500kbps ain't far from reality

When I run over the LTE cap on my AT&T Prepaid plan, the "2G speeds" are often 0.01-0.07Mbps, usable for email but not much else, such as social media.

Honestly these speeds suck. But so do data caps. They really need to switch to speed tiers like home broadband instead. But usable speeds not this 128kbps crap everyone but verizon (who instead throttles down to 600kbps) is using.

I like to add one thing that old speeds had less data to transfer because everything wasn't on internet like these days, webpages were simpler and less bloated so for surfing and downloading this test isn't accurate.

Warning: Hello Mobile is horrible. When you have a problem, there's no way to resolve it. They say they have customer service, but they don't. They won't delete your account. Good luck stopping the charges.

I never had a problem with 3g EVER. it was truly unlimited data tha th never skipped a beat. Nowadays you chose "unlimited" data and it never actually means unlimited. Valery sad they canned 3g for 5g just to throttle data. Gross
