Just days after winning the MotoAmerica King of the Baggers race at Laguna Seca, I had the chance to ride my street legal Road Glide Special 131 on the track. How fast can I go on the street bike compared to the race bike?

This was great. The bagger races are so much fun to watch, just cause they're bikes that have no business on a track. And yet, its just wildly entertaining to watch a 600+ lb bike getting backed into corners. Great stuff!

King of the baggers are basically moto gp bikes with ptoduction frames the amount of money and r&d in them. Nothing like a production bike. Only 2 to 3 seconds off super sport class and that much faster than the hooligan class. The lesser classes are more realistic of what sone coin and track time could net you.

What’s even scarier is cruiser tires are starting to outperform the cruisers they are being put on. My tires on my cruiser look and feel like sport bike tires. I would know cause I had a sport bike before.

That was great fun to watch. I met you at the H.D. event in Wilcox AZ. The best part of that event was being coached by you at the track segment. It should have been the entire day though. I hope to see you at the Champ school in Homestead Fl. in November. I highly recommend the on line ChampU video to all my students. Keep these video's coming! How bout a showroom stock H.D. vs Showroom stock Indian bagger on the track?

I don’t have a crate motor on my new road glide and there’s no track nearby. But I do know that it is fantastic with just the stage 2 and for a non professional racer it will very easily go way faster than I would be safe doing without a track available. What a fun video, and I am a big fan Kyle. Keep ripping man, and keep on winning!

I was kind of amazed how stable it seemed even at max lean. And yeah, the scraping of hard parts really is the limiting factor when aggressive cornering on one of these HD baggers. There is a fine line between just scraping floorboards, kick stand, maybe muffler tip and bottoming out on the mufflers or bags and levering the rear off and low siding. Great video. Thanks.

Pretty sick, Kyle. A little faster than I thought it would be. A lot of riders who’ve never ridden an H-D Touring model have no clue how much fun these things are if you dial ‘em up a little. The King of the Baggers series has seriously changed some attitudes. Lots of positive comments at a few of the “multi brand” Bike Nights” I’ve attended recently. I really enjoyed your series with KWR Ducati in the MotoAmerica races. Through those videos, I learned of KOTB. These races are so entertaining, after all, racing is racing. The speeds are relative. I'm blown away by the performance the manufacturers have rung out of these bikes and the lap times and great racing the riders have provided with their incredible skills. Motorcycle racing has always eclipsed auto racing for me, and KOTB is just a whole different level of crazy! BTW, H-D couldn't ask for better representatives than you and Travis. Best of luck.

That looks like so much fun! A few years ago a buddy and I were road tripping and we had a pretty empty u-haul. The track was closed but we were able to go to the gift shop. Inside I mentioned I wanted to take a lap and he laughed. So on our way out we did. It felt like we were going to roll on the corkscrew but I kept the pedal down and kept it straight. That was a rush.lol. Of course there were a couple of guys when we were coming out of the last straight. After talking we got a couple of stickers. One of the best days of my life. Up there with my first wave and that milf when I was 20.

Awesome! Great example of how a HD touring bike is supposed to be ridden. Notice the lower body setup prior to the turn and remaining in position until after the turn. Also notice the use of positive upper body position to limit lean angle, and holding that position until the straight direction is fully achieved, again increasing traction. There needs to be a bagger specific training course, both online and at track, and get the message across to stop sitting in the middle, or even counter balancing these bikes. Nice video! Thank you!!!!

Nice video, it is good to see the difference. I wonder if a stock Road Glide with the 107 would take another 30 seconds. I'd like to see what you could do with metric bagged bikes. See if a Gold wing takes a minute longer and see what a Yamaha does 😃 I wish this series had all bagger bikes in it.
@mrvwbug4423
@mrvwbug4423 2 жыл бұрын
Gold Wing might beat it, more cornering clearance, and comparable power (131 kit is 121hp out of the box, Gold wing is about 120hp stock). Any sport tourer would smoke it with a comparable rider (our hypothetical would likely assume Wyman riding all the bikes). It really shows you how fast even a non-sport bike can really go. Guys holding up twisty road traffic on their baggers is a riding skill thing, the bike can definitely go faster than would be considered safe even on a sportbike.

Kyle Wyman you have became an icon from when you were a kid racing sport bikes then racing in the vance and hines XR1200 series to now road racing the family truckster .so today you are among the few who has experienced it all like a bunny beating a drum and keeps on going and going and going ...and its you , your brother , and at the risk of your disagreement Tyler O'Hare , that by all three of you guys have made this king of the baggers competition as real as motogp can get ..you guys are dragging your knees in the turns with these baggers bent over like a Panigale and sometimes trading paint with Tyler..looking like NASCAR only on two wheels ...and opening season at Daytona this year , did i hear it straight when the track announcer said you guys were drafting at 170mph on the high bank? Keep the shiny side up and stay out of the marbles ...Fucking priceless kid ..and of course Tyler has to be on the Indian to make this real competition of a rivalry that goes back a hundred years ago starting with the first international road race in 1919 ..harley vs indian and its the same today keeping us on the edge of our couch full of Pringles and french onion washed down with gallons of Bud ...you guys make this show rock ...and today you have done it again with this video comparing the factory werks bike to your production street version that looks like you have already done...last year i mentioned to my local dealer harley should come up with a street legal version of king of the baggers that is user friendly for a new production show room model and they all kinda sneered at the idea ...and here you are riding your street version that is the best looking bagger i have ever seen and it can stop turn left and right and go and go .and why shouldn't it with 2146 cc's and four valves per cylinder can breath horsepower ...harley can offer a performance limited edition user friendly street version with your signature on the fairing just like those Kenny Roberts signature yamaha cafe racers that are now collector bikes costing more today used than they did new ! And as you guys make this sport happen and starting to become noticed ,indian would be foolish not to take advantage of what you guys are risking it all and also have a Tyler O'Hare signature indian bagger that together would sell the crap out of baggers for both companies ..you could be too young to remember the extreme rivalry that went on for years in the trans am series road racing on these same tracks you guys are racing today, but back then between the Z/28 Camero and the BOSS 302 Mustang with ford and chevy laughing all the way bank .... The potential is here right now as you have just proven with a demonstration of your own street version of king of the baggers. Its only the next logical move for the sales management executives to offer to the public of both flavors of baggers ..give this all new tech another year of the competition with the data feed back you guys are creating everytime the green flag drops ...although at the last couple of years in the trans am series Rodger Penske parked his Z/28 for a Javelin AMX that destroyed the race and the showroom models with a signature on the rear deck spoiler of Mark Donahue ...but what you have demonstrated here today has left the field wide open to develope your street bagger into a new production king of sales ...and how do you feel about the future of a brand new sport of motorcycle racing the spectators can totally identify with not only the brand but also the model they ride as the fan boy groups do chasing the teams to the next track ? Apparently you can think outside the box to have the internal fortitude to climb aboard the family truckster and force it to remain on two wheels while grinding the knee sliders off your leathers ....there are still professional couch potato spectators just like me who are still discovering bagger racing and raving about it with positive and negative input ....and its all good for filling grandstands insuring your employment ...and do you think its possible for the race called king of the baggers that does not claim to be american v-twins only ..what if both you and your brother with what ever attitude adjustments necessary to invite Tyler too and all three of you guys go have a little meeting with Guy Martin and ill bet money you would see a Rocket III Bagger with obnoxious British flags painted all over it trading paint with Tyler trying to trade paint with you ...i believe this fun race of baggers that has already turned into a national new class of championship standings in only two years ..for the unforseen future add the craziness of Guy Martin's enthusiasm and i believe there is a possibilty of your race going international ...what do think Kyle as its your ass on the line everytime the flag drops ....and stay out of that Irish island were the hold the TT that has consumed more riders than anything else ...we dont need to see you flying off a mountain making a boat out of the family truckster surfing the Atlantic Ocean or worse trying to dodge one of Guy Martin's exploding fireball crashes ...the ideas are in your court and you are holding the ball

Awesome video Kyle , congrats on the win. Maybe it would be awesome if you can show how or what else you would do to your stock bike to get more performance out of it. Other than the 131 and the ohlins suspension. It would be real awesome if Harley would let you trick your bike out and show what can really be achieved with your stock bike and still be street legal .. Thanks

I think it depends what your goals are, and how you define performance. If I was chasing lap times, the first thing I would do is raise the bike up more so I can get more lean angle. There are big chunks of time in the handling before I would ever touch the engine again

Pretty impressive performance from the stock front tire, with the amount of trail braking you did.

My father who was about 5' 7" and 130 lbs rode an 800 lbs. Indian during WWII on the front lines in an armored division. He survived 4 years delivering messages on that bike. I was born late in his life but, he always talked about getting a pair of his favorite bike (Electra Glide) and he wanted us to go cross country on them. Unfortunately he passed away before I was old enough for that experience. When I first saw the bagger series I was quite entertained and said these guys can ride and I bet my dad would say the same thing.

Sad for so many reasons. He killed his own brothers and helped ruin the world. You actually had a father but he died before y'all could ride together. Sad stuff.

@@boycottjews What is this supposed to mean? "He killed his own brothers and helped ruin the world" Do you think my father at 19 years old in 1940 with a baby on the way wanted to go to war? Did I ever say he killed anyone? He saw his best friend from childhood get killed and did his best to come home to his child. He rode a motorcycle exposed to everyone trying to kill him but, it's not like he had time to shoot back while riding. However, he delivered very important instructions to help prevent more people from trying to kill him and others in the free world from that maniac that started the whole mess.

Definitely like to see more bagger racing stuff. Race footage(if possible), behind the scenes, anything really. Thanks for the video!
