I highly recommend learning Dutch / Old Norse / Norwegian / Icelandic / Gothic, they are one of the prettiest languages ever, too pretty not to know, and also Welsh / Gallo / Breton / Galician / Hungarian / Slovenian etc, and I am learning all Germanic languages and the 6 Celtic languages and all other pretty languages that exist, so I have over 50 languages on my list on languages I want to learn and improve, and I am so obsessed with learning Nordic languages, and I am beginner level in most pretty languages, and I am advanced level in Dutch and writer level in English and intermediate level in Norwegian / German / Swedish and Portuguese and native speaker level in Spanish and upper beginner level in Old Norse and Icelandic and Welsh and Italian and French - and honestly, most ‘popular’ foreign languages aren’t pretty, but German is gorgeous tho, the words are so pretty, so it deserves to be a popular language, so I also highly recommend learning German, and every other Germanic language, as they are all gorgeous!

Old Norse is one of the prettiest languages I’ve ever seen, it has real gorgeous words like erfiði / yfir / haf / vindr / dyn / skegg / dróttinn / veit / drengr / fjall / hǫnd / fisksins / lengr / hvassir / rauðr / hvarr / grænn / hvat / líkligr / hǫss / afi / frændi / heitir / veð / hráka / þó / kvern / mælti / hét / setja / hinn / kveða / sinn / leið / brott / knerri / við / dýr / með / heyra / eða etc, and the word endings (like nir and inn and sins etc) and the letter combinations are so pretty, just like the word endings and letter combinations in English and Dutch and Norwegian - I can’t stop learning new pretty words in Old Norse and Icelandic (and the other pretty languages) and they are really áddìctive to look at and read and hear in lyrics etc, I’ve been listening to Skáld songs in Old Norse and Icelandic since I found the first song in Old Norse (Troll Kalla Mik) and I’ve memorized most of those lyrics!

Wtf. I completed A1 in 3 months and barely passed the Goethe exam. Then after 1 year I can read and listen in B1 German but speaking and writing are still A2 level because German grammar and gendered nouns remains tough. I literally get scammed and wondered why am I not getting better, by these KZfaq polyglots Or linguists. They say 6 months for fluent German and in the middle of the video, say that they have learned German passively for 2-3 years like wtf, what happened to the truth these days?! What happened to it?! Why not put 2 and 1/2 years to speak intermediate German. They will instead write 6 months to complete German. If Geothe can say that what about you ppl?! They even list 3 years minimum to speak at B1-B2 level German fluency for people who have no interest in the language or who are just doing it for job and mind you it's minimum years. Maximum God only knows.

It depends on the learner - I can learn multiple languages very fast, and I learn Dutch to an advanced level (over 8.000 base words) in about 3 months, and I also focused on Norwegian / Swedish / German / Icelandic / Welsh / French etc and other languages for a few months, and now I know over 3.500 words in Norwegian / German / Swedish, which is intermediate level! I am naturally very observant and am real good at pattern recognition and stuff like that, and I have a super good memory, so it takes a lot less repetitions over a period of time for me to permanently remember a word or a list of words, which helps me learn languages super fast! However, the avrg learner cannot learn fast, so ppl should have patience and keep learning more and more words while revising words that have already been learned, until they can all be remembered automatically - it may take a few years for most ppl to learn new languages, the easiest languages like Dutch / English / Norwegian may take about 1 year, maybe 2, but it really depends on the learner and on how many hours a day one spends learning and on the techniques and methods that one uses!
@FrozenMermaid666
@FrozenMermaid666 10 ай бұрын
However, it is true that it does take a bit longer to become very fluent (very fast) when it comes to actual speaking and thinking fast (like, being able to speak as fast in the new languages as one can do in the first language, which takes longer) but, the most important part is to learn the actual words and to be able to understand the written language, and fluency in speaking / thinking aka the automatic mode in the new languages will develop as one is exposed to more and more videos / ideas / words etc in the new languages and hears them many times / enough times!
@FrozenMermaid666
@FrozenMermaid666 10 ай бұрын
I figured that it would take 1 to 3 years to develop an automatic mode in new languages, so that’s why I started learning over 15 languages at the same time, to save years, so 2 or maybe 3 years from now, I will be fluent in many or most of the languages I started learning, as opposed to being fluent only in one, unlike ppl that make the mistake to only study one language at a time - the hern will take a few years to develop an automatic mode in a new language or in multiple new languages, so even if one learns the words fast, it will still take a few years of constant exposure / repetitions etc (over a period of time) so, technically one won’t get fluent in speaking in a language faster if one only focuses on that language only, and is only going to waist years if one only learns one language at a time, and I have so many languages on my list of languages I want to learn and improve, so I’m trying to start learning as many of them as possible, so when I will start prioritizing them, I will already know a lot of words in those languages and it will go real smooth!

Please dont give unrealistic timelines.. I have been living in Germany for last 2 years and took 1.5 years to complete B2 , still i will not call myself fluent even though i make sure to speak Deutsch with my German friends. Even my friend who has a German boyfriend, is still in Progress and not fluent. You can call yourself fluent only when you are confident enough to attend an interview in Deutsch. On average it will take 2-3 years for one to become fluent.

I believe that one can learn the basics of a foreign language in about a year. To speak fluently, it will take at least 3 years. I studied French at school for about 6 years and later on I stopped practicing it. However, I still understand it quite well and I can have a conversation in French, although I forget a lot of vocabulary and grammar. I still speak it fairly well because my brain kept a lot of the information.

Yeah, more or less, I guess. If you're talking about just the lesson structure of any levels, you can finish that in less than a month. But what really is tested for these certificates are mostly not about grammar, but one's grasp on the language. This includes vocabulary, comprehension, as well as being able to spontaneously respond in a conversation. Those numbers could be possible if proper conditions are met, but that's rarely the case for most people. Someone living in Germany would naturally acquire the language faster because they're more exposed to it, but the people who learn German are yet to go to Germany, so they can only manage what they can by themselves. These (numbers) are ideals, not facts.

yeahhh... I honestly dont think so. I mean, if you achieve B2 within 5 months, then you really have my respect, but German is a rather difficult language that requires a lot of work to achieve fluency in. Therefore, I guess you'd need around 8 months if you're really gifted and elsewise about a year to reach B2.

It's actually easy if you already speak Dutch. My level in Dutch is B2. So, it was very easy for me to reach from A1to B2 in German in 4-5 months. But, it's only possible if you speak Dutch. As someone living in India, you can never reach that level in 5 months. B1 is possible in 5 months for Indians in general. Not B2. B2 will take 8-10 months.

What's hilarious is that i'm german And i've lived in the u s for so long i've Forgot the how to speak. German releared it within 2 weeks of being in Germany. Then a year after that forgot it again Then went to Germany for another 2 months. Learned it in a week again It being my first language in all. I think I have and unfair advantage but still.
