I'm so proud of Fem. She obviously is running her fastest times ever. That's simply hard work with a vision not to give up on being the best. BUT....SYDNEY is a young BEAST who LOVES COMPETITION. UNBELIEVABLE GENETICS. I feel Sydney will rise to the occasion AGAIN, and defend her Title!! Good luck to both of those unbelievable Athletes!

@@tonytipton3288 Well in terms of genetics Femke Bol is clearly ahead of mrs McLaughlin: tall, much longer legs, much more efficient build, very powerfull in relation to her weight, and an unparalleled ability to keep running and performing with perfect form under heavy saturation of lactic acid. So yeah, if you want to go that route: Femke Bol is clearly superior in that respect...

Bol and McLaughlin have only been on the same track 2x in history, once in 2021 and once in 2022. And in those years Bol was still a Newby, because she only started on the hurdles in 2019, when her then new coach Laurent Meuwly suggested it to her.

Read the numbers and weep! Sydney will not see Femke as her biggest rival. I still recall American sports journalists thinking Usain Bolt was beatable in 100 & 200m sprint in 2012. (Read the numbers and weep. 9.58secs & 19.19secs.)

I think Sidney has the numbers and so should be favored. Bol is also quick, but her great times are indoors. Has Bol run a outdoor 400mh recently? Just curious what her times were..

Bol ran the Diamond League in 2023, and WON ALL races with about 15 meters lead, and she ran 3 51 seconds times, with as fastest a 51.45 in London.

@@wesleyowens4089 Nope, because she was "injured". And that is the problem with McLaughlin. Even on a schedule of only 5 or 6 races per year she gets injured. If mrs McLaughlin would try to keep up with the schedule of Femke Bol she would be hospitalized within a few months.... McLaughlin's physique seems to very fragile.

Looking at the numbers and the last two races Ms Bol looks a lot better than mrs McLaughlin. Where McLaughlin was struggling with strange 15 and 16 step experiments of her coach to still reach a 52.70, Bol ran a beautifull, smooth "Walk in the Park", with "More left in the thank" 52.49 World Lead. The question now is of course what McLaughlin is going to do at the US trials...

She ran that 52.70 so easily though. It was clear she didn't push herself at all I'm the final stretch and it was her season opener. Sydney is still unbeatable imo until someone proves otherwise

@@wesleyowens4089 There was nothing easy about it. It looked clumsy and a-rythmical. Asked for this afterwards, McLaughlin said that her coach had given her an assignment to do some hurdles with 15 and some hurdles with 16 steps. "to not overload her system".

Stand for decades is a bit of a silly statement. we have no idea who will arrive on the scene in the next years let alone decades. and how much faster they can go. Never mind these two. they are just about to hit their prime. so its definitely not a given it will even stand a few years

@@dcartier1692 this year, no one has run under 52. Femke has the world lead at 52.49. Sydney has the second best time this year at 52.70. I believe that Sydney will go under 52 at team trials.

@@BCNpod Yeeesss, and the operational terms in this: "2020" and "2022". But we live in 2024 (!). And Bol, who started on the hurdles in 2019, is by now maturing as hurdler. In 2023 (!) Bol switched to the 14 step stride, and ran the 3d time ever, 51.45. And also in 2023 and 2024 Bol won 36 races in a row(!) and got 4 World Championships and 3 World Records... So, the world has changed a little bit since 2022... And in the PRESENT of 2024 Bol just ran a very smooth and easy world lead on the way to getting into peak condition for Paris. And who will win in Paris will be determined ON THE TRACK, ON THE DAY. NOT on the basis for medals or times from 2020 or 2022. PS. The Olympic in Tokio was in 2021, not in 2020.

So lets put some FACTS in a row: Femke Bol in 2023 - 2024: 36 straight WINS in a ROW (in individual highlevel 400m and hurdles races such as World Championships, and Diamond League) 4 World Championships 3 World Records (+2 in minor events) 3d time ever on the 400 hurdles (51.45 in London in july 2023) World Lead in 2024 in European Championships with 52.49 McLaughlin in 2023-2024: 1 races on the hurdles 1 win in 52.70 5 races on the 400 in early 2023, 4 with times of 49.5 to 49.7 (of which 1 lost to Paulino), 1 rather quick 400 flat in 48.74. That's IT.

@@BCNpod Yep, And Bol developed tremendously in 2023 and 2024. Went to 14 stride, ran 3d time ever, won 36 individual 400 and 400 mh races in a ROW, and just ran a beautifull smooth and easy WL in Rome (all comentators: a walk in the park, more in the tank...)

Has Bol ever ran a 400m flat faster than 48.74 or 200m faster than 22.05? Sidney is the world record holder of the 400mh at 50.68 and until Bol can beat that time, she will lose. European media likes to hype its runners.

BS. 1.) Bol is the World Record Holder (!) on the 400 m flat indoor, which you Americans keep so panickly playing down, but which is a whole lot harder than McLaughlins outdoor 48.74, 2.) the 200 meter is hardly relevant for the 400 meter (with or without hurdles) because the 400 and 400 hurdles are all about the last 100 to 150 meters where the lactic acid hits. That is where Femke Bol is so very strong. And those few meters advantage that mrs McLaughlin gets from her faster start are not going to help her there. We will see in Paris!

@@BromMaskovic-ms4iq mere 49.17 400m indoor flat time is not impressive. Sidney would run faster if she ever competed indoors but many great runners don’t run indoors in the US. Bol never ran faster than Sidney’s 48.74 400m flat outside. Bol never beat Sidney since they both the same age. Until Bol beats Sidney, there is no comparison. European media’s bias hype on their runners at its finest.

@@bobbyk9939 Yes it IS impressive. Simple facts: Bol broke the World Record of the previous record holder Jarmila Kratochvilova by a whopping 0.42 seconds. But Kratochvilova also happens to be the previous OUTDOOR WR Holder, before Marita Koch, with a time of 47.99 (!). And if Bol is able to break Kratochvilova indoor there is no reason why she could not do that Outdoors. And 47.99 - 0.42 is... Right, I rest my case. And Bol and McLaughlin have only EVER been 2x on the same stage, and that was once in 2021 and once in 2022. And in both those events Bol, who started only in 2019 on the hurdles was still quite new to this discipline. So that does not say much. Now we have a new situation, however, because Bol to now has 5 years of experience on the hurdles. It is going to be very interesting to say the least, in Paris!

I love Femke but she doesn't stand a chance. If she could get close to the wr maybe. Sydney made her debut and had so much left in the tank. When Sydney runs 100% Bol isn't even in the same league.

Sydney has too much core speed for Femke. Sydney is competitive at 200m. Bol isn't You can train up endurance and strength but core speed is a wall. Femke is driving Sidney to break 50 at the Olympics.

That is a mistake. McLaughlin indeed is about 0.5 seconds faster over 200 meter, which is mostly in her faster acceleration from the block. But the 400 meter (with or without hurdles) is not run over 200 meter, but over 400 meter. And with her longer legs Femke has a much more efficient stride, which means that she uses less energy and builds up less lactic acid. This pays of in the 2nd part of the race, and especially the last 100 m, where Femke is unbelievably strong. In 2023 and 2024 Bol WON 36 races on the 400m and the 400 m hurdles, and in practically ALL of these races she easily ran away from the competition on the last 100 meter. So it is way to simple to say that more 200 meter speed also makes you faster over the 400 meter or the 400 meter hurdles.
