6 жыл бұрынWhat's better, SR20 or SR22? I've flown a Cirrus SR20 for over a year, but will flying the SR22 be the right move? This vlog shows the Cirrus stall protection, straight & level button, some circuits and my thoughts on the Cirrus SR22 G3.

RIP Tango Delta Sierra. I would say though the SR22 looks nicer, it’s safer and would have it differences to the SR20. Good video Stef!

YES A NOTIFICATION From one of my favorite pilot!!! Ah I’m going to miss tango delta Sierra. Must be a challenge to start saying a fallowing. Just so you know the SR22 is my all around favorite private aircraft. I love everything about it the panels, avionics, side stick! Amazing! I love the flying please keep it up!!! Also beautiful landing!

Love your videos and your dialogue. Your post is dated 3/27/18. I thought you were flying a newer SR22 and was impressed by the four blade prop. I showed your video to my son who told me that the SR22 you flew is much older than the ones he flies as the panel is older. He also said that Cirrus does not manufacture a plane with four blade prop and the plane you flew had to be aftermarket. He said that the insignia on the blades is not the company that Cirrus uses for its props which is Hartzell. All that being stated, was the gentleman who flew right seat with you a Cirrus rep. or someone who was Cirrus certified.

Love those Cirrus's. Got to go for a city loop in a GTS when I did work experience with a Cirrus dealer at Moorabbin. Incredible experience especially compared to the bumpy ride you get in a C172. Also just realised Mike is the one I picked up my ASIC from a while back in some random cafe in Narre Warren south lol Just earned yourself a new sub :D

I didn't see much of a reaction from TDS when you broke the news, but life goes on i guess. Great stall safety feature and that blue button makes it so easy to level the plane if needed. It looks like this plane is still using the Avidyne system like TDS. When you mention further afar, does this mean Tasmania maybe ?? Enjoy that extra power Stef, thanks mate.

Don't know how these planes are priced in Oz, but in the US it's hardly worth it to buy the 20 over the 22. The real question most people deal with is whether or not to get the 22 Turbo or 22 Naturally Aspirated. It seems that the 22 Turbo is useful if you're really covering long distance or live in the Western United States where mountain flying is pretty routine. The Cirrus airframe just needs the extra horses to realize its potential, plus the SR20 (at least the Continental powered ones, don't know about the new Lycoming ones) have notoriously long takeoff runs and poor climb at airports at High Density Altitude. Regarding the 4-bladed prop, that'll give you better climb and better braking on descent, but probably slightly less cruise performance. Cruise props are usually two-bladed and louder, as you said.

I’m flying a1966 Piper Comanche 260b it’s not as fancy but will give you a run for money performance wise! It’s not too gold plated to maintain either.

Beautiful machine. Miss YMMB-YLTV and flying both a Mooney and GA7 in the UK. Trouble is that a Cirrus makes me feel so dam safe. Probably the best instrument equipped GA aircraft there is.

Cirrus makes a real nice plane with side stick control. I think you will enjoy the benefits of the SR22 after you become more acclimated . Love the new Cirrus Vision Jet. You could probably hop into the cockpit and be good to go with your knowledge of how the Cirrus operates. I assume that will eventually be your new airplane!

Great Video! Unfortunatly you will need to say goodbye to TDS. But that is life. Maybe you should make a final flight for TDS. But one question even TDS isn’t going to fly much you still own TDS right? Make sure you don’t forget about TDS and about the amazing aventures you have with it like flying to Longreach. Hopefully you can make another journey simular to that. We (as your viewers) won’t forget about TDS. Have a good day.

Thanks Chuck, yeah the technology in the Cirrus is fantastic. It's such a great plane for Instrument flying, but even just for pottering around VFR the automation and stability of the aircraft make it a lot of fun to fly.

Very nice aircraft! Good to see another flying video on here! Funny how almost every pilot accidentally says the wrong call sign after flying the same aircraft for a while. Whats the difference in HP and TAS between the 20/22?

How do you afford to acquire the planes? I’m considering getting into flying but the price of planes seems to make it very difficult. Did you start by charging people for flights or you have another job that helps you finance these activities? Just trying to understand how to make this happen the most efficient way possible.

I prefer TDS, but you want to advance. Do you have to be IFR rated on this aircraft to? When you did your IFR training did you do NGT VFR first or just sat the IREX exam and went straight to full IFR? Which do you prefer, VFR or IFR? Are you still current on other aircraft like C172, PA38 etc?

As trivial as this question might be, I have often thought about it: considering the shape of the doors on the actual airframe , what happens with rain etc? does it just soak the a/c interior? Great videos !

The SR22 is also an 8 quart oil capacity, not 12. Other IO550 engines are 12, but not the cirrus implementation.

Why do you need two GPS packs. Can you link them together on the display screen or something? Also, do you rent, share or own the plane as that plane is HELLA expensive

How do you get 12 quarts of oil in that SR22? Mine holds 8, and anything more than 6 1/2 gets spat out.

Definitely noticeably more power especially on the takeoff roll and in the climb. Plus the overall faster cruise speed is a big plus too.

Hey Chris, yes there are SR22Ts available for hire but I didn't need such a big step up in performance and can achieve my personal flying objectives at lower cruise altitudes with normally aspirated (non-turbo) engines. So my choice came down to the SR20 and SR22.

5:16 laughing and having a good time about the performance and then a Cirrus Vision Jet rips by..... 7:48 That awkward moment you start to call your new girlfriend by your old girlfriend's name....That's a great button feature a passenger can push if the pilot becomes incapacitated....Does it also have a land the plane button in case the pilot stays out longer than the fuel capacity? The only benefit of a 4 blade prop is it being quieter and it a tiny boost in climb rate maybe 50fpm on a good day........ maybe. overall its slower than a 3 blade and a few knots slower than a 2 blade. This is known by bonanza and Mooney guys and just aerodynamics. I would personally go with a three blade and the market and manufactures seems to agree but who am i . its also weights more and is more expensive compared to a three blade. For some reason some cirrus pilots think its faster which just helps the stereotypes that cirrus pilots already have because it certainly is not.

Bonanza Driver I agree, have 1500 hours on 20, 22, 22T and flew one in Toronto before and after a three blade was swapped out by a four blade and it was a few knots slower. Also note you should aim for 6 quarts of oil for normal short haul flights as the rest will just get dumped out the belly over time. So the video has it wrong.

Joedi I all planes are certified with certain props. You have to check the TCDS (type certificate data sheet) to see which propellers are certified on your aircraft. If it isn’t available, you can check to see if there is an STC (supplement type certificate) to put a 4 blade on your plane. if so, go for it. If not, you can get your own STC. But that’s a heck of a process.

I fly a 40 year old Cherokee Warrior with analogue gauges so I find all this automation scary!

It's really useful once you get used to it, and I find the automation takes a lot of the workload away from me, so I have more time to think about 'next steps' rather than physically flying the plane, which I prefer. But it's a very personal thing for sure. I trained in a PA28, did all my X/C time in one, great aircraft.

Hey Harry, the Straight and Level button is useful with passengers if the pilot becomes incapacitated. The aircraft will fly wings level whatever attitude it was previously in. If, as you suggested, the passenger activated the autopilot at that moment in the video, the AP would hold the roll and pitch at its current positions, so it would continue the aircraft in that spiral dive we were entering. To use the AP to get straight and level the passenger would need to activate the AP, engage the GPSS or HDG button, set the altitude bug and press ALT to hold altitude - you can't brief that. Whereas briefing 'if I'm not responding, press this one button once' is way easier. So the S&L button is a very good, simple to use, safety feature. Hope that clears it up for you, cheers, Stef 👍

@@danieldovale7162 my comment was in reference to a particular country in Europe where I once lived, they use the same american aircraft with the dipstick graduated in 'quarts' (whatever that is) but as is all things there and most parts of the world, those obsolete measurements have not been used for decades. Oil as are all other fluids such as fuel is sold by the litre . I would be rather surprised if its different in Australia where this video was produced.

L'aviateur de TRPG Sure in your response you said your comment was in reference to a particular country in Europe where in the original comment you reference he and as he is from Australia kinda doesn’t make sense, furthermore in Australia they are sold as Quarts, it literally says on the bottle, and if you measure it out it’ll add up to exactly 1 quart, not 1 Litre.
