I have a video Idea or more of a request, Can you do a comparison between This mic and the Maono AU-A03 (which is XLR or 3.5mm) and/or the Maono AU-A03, which is a USB mic. Both this mic comes below 50-ish dollars. I am confused with these 3. Thanks in advance. PS: love your videos

Hello! I've been using this microphone for almost two years (planning to upgrade in a few days). I've been stressing it out a lot with voice acting and energetic voice over. It's always connected so I can use it on Discord or any other voice chats and it's still working as Day 1. I really recommend this microphone to anyone who wants to start streaming or podcasting with a reduced budget.

I've been using this mic for a couple of years now and I'm actually really happy with it still! The sound is perfectly good for what I paid and even after two moves the microphone is in good shape! My only real issue is that the mic-stand it comes with isn't the best quality and it eventually broke so I had to replace that at one point. For someone looking to get into streaming and podcasting, or if you want a "set it and forget it" microphone for voice chat, it works wonders!

AWESOME review, Tom! Funny thing, I watched the video both on headphones and on my iPhone (11 Pro Max) and the Fifine sounded better on my iPhone! It's probably the highs that a lot of these cheaper mics provide a boost on, allowing us to perceive them as clearer and more mix-ready. But some people blame treble-accented microphones for listener ear fatigue. Being an audio geek, I would most likely not use it for professional VO client work, but it's really impressive. So much so, that I *could* even suggest it to VO beginners who are in need of entry-level equipment, which they will eventually outgrow down the road. As a fellow Mac user, I use LoopBack whenever I need to record multiple sources of audio. I don't know if I can record two USB mics on separate channels in my DAW, but I know for a fact that I can record or route as many devices and applications as I want to a virtual stereo out. It's like a virtual mixer! I also use it for client work. Whenever they are monitoring my performance through Zoom, I route everything into a virtual device that I have created in Loopback and choose it as the input for Zoom. That way I can play back what I recorded for them, share audio from videos or music or anything else you can think of. All apps of my Mac can be sources for Loopback. Super handy! Love your content! Did I say that today? Eh, maybe I did on another platform.

Great video. The Fifine is a superb little mic. I used it for a year or so with more than acceptable results. Though if you work in a noisy environment then it will pick up background sounds such as computer fans etc. It also has a little self noise, though nothing that a touch of noise reduction can't handle. I recently switch to the Samson Q2U as it has a more localised pickup pattern which helps with the environment noise, and virtually no self noise. But if I had a quieter work space I would have been happy sticking with the Fifine.

@FIFINE

Hi Scott, thanks for sharing your use experience! That's true. The self-noise level and the noise rejection of a condenser mic is not on par with a dynamic mic. Especially in a noisy environment, a dynamic microphone setup is a better choice if the budget allows.

Just adding my two cents: I am an audio/video/music guy. I just got the Fifine USB mic for my wife for her work video conferencing calls. It is absolutely perfect for that. It’s cheap, it’s well built, it’s unobtrusive, looks good in the frame, and it sounds about the same as if I’d set her up with a much higher priced mic. The permanently attached cable is actually a positive in that context since it is one less thing to go wrong.

Ahh yes, the dreaded A/C interference. Unfortunately there's not a ton that can be done about it, but depending on the software you use, you might be able to add a noise gate or some kind of voice isolation to help take care of it (although sometimes those things end up sounding worse than the original background noise 😁).

2:33 yes you can! If you just open the microphone you can desoder the wire and soder a new one in. Watched your review and a few others and last January I got a Fifine K669B myself. Early on I swapped the stand to one that can got higher and lower than the included stand. It's a lot better than the mic inside my webcam, though since its a condenser mic the noises in my area can get into the recording (and having a reflective room with no sound dampening doesn't help haha). Should have gotten a dynamic mic, but don't regret getting the K669B honestly since its pretty good and can pick up more frequencies than the webcam mic. I tend to use noise canceling for calls and noise removal effect when recording audio. Covered it with a few layers of socks later to prevent dust from getting inside the holes of the cover of the mic capsule and it helped a little bit with the plosives.

It's funny hoy i got this microphone because i just was looking for a desk arm for one of my other microphones, and the person who was selling it included the microphone too, so basically i got it "for free", and it supriced me so well because i been using it the las month for my videos and streams and the quality is pretty cool, i mean, i attached a pop filter and passed the audio for some eq's and other plugins but the results are pretty cool if you know how to process the audio, absolutelly i do recomend it for anyone who has a low budget to start any audio proyect, i just don't like the cable is not detachable, that could be the only bad thing about this microphone, great video man.

Hey Tom. You can use the "Audio-Midi" utility in the Mac's Utilities" folder and select both USB inputs combined into one Aggregate Device. You could also use Rogue Amoeba's "Loopback" program to combine hardware (and software) inputs into a single audio device that every single DAW I've tried allows for multi-track recording

What's the benefit of combining my mac built-in microphone with a USB mic? Or is this something I should avoid (for example for a stream/podcast)?
@Vertshark
@Vertshark Жыл бұрын
@@snakejuce Unless you're trying to have more than one person recording at the same time, there's really no need to do so. In "most" cases, a DAW won't see more than a single source so having multiple USB mics for a multi-person podcast can be an issue unless you try some of the methods mentioned above. Better still to go with XLR and use a USB mixer or USB audio interface
@snakejuce
@snakejuce Жыл бұрын
@@Vertshark Your reply is very much appreciated and did not go to waste. Thank you for that. But yeah, seeing as I'm a newb to this I had already purchased the USB mic yesterday. Wish I had seen your comments before. That being said though it will suffice for just streaming/podcast purposes, which is what I wish to use it for. I see people sitting really close to microphones. Is that truly that necessary? What's the max distance that one can still ideally capture voice audio? 2 feet would be pushin' it?
@snakejuce

@@Vertshark Scratch that, that was a schupid question (regarding distance) on my behalf. Also just listened to some sound tests. 1 foot distance is fine and one can even go further.

Immediately upgraded to a Rode Procaster on a Behringer UMC22 interface, and alas, fixed the cutting out problem. I regretted every cent i paid for this NotSoFiFine mic.

@tombuck
@tombuck 3 жыл бұрын
I think I was fortunate that there wasn't a lot of noise when I filmed the video, but keeping the gain as low as possible (while still getting a strong signal) helps. For regular recordings, I also use some processing in Adobe Audition to clean things up.
@FIFINE
@FIFINE 3 жыл бұрын
Hi ourpodlife, instead of testing out with different recording software, it's much more practical to have a decent setup before recording. Then you can spend far less time doing post-production. Using a condenser mic in a treated environment is the most recommended method, you can do it in a simple way of hanging up some moving blanket. If you don't want to bother, then try setting the dial below 60%, computer input at 80%, and keep talking to the mic within 5 inches. Even it's not used in a treated room, the background sound should be reduced by then.
