If your KZfaq home page is anything like mine, you've probably seen a lot of videos about Kamui Kobayashi showing up. So like the true KZfaqr I am, I decided to try and milk some views from the relevant topic.

Hi John! I hate to be pedantic but at 4:39 that's actually Heidfeld that Schumacher put in the wall. Kobayashi crashed on his own at turn 18 the lap after passing Schumacher and then got rear-ended by Bruno Senna :)

Step 6: Have a fan channel upload all of your best overtakes. Step 7: Profit

I'd completely disagree with him having a disappointing career after f1. He has arguably been the fastest sportscar racer in the world since 2018. Lap record at lemans, 2021 lemans winner and 2 x daytona winner where he went from last to first over a stint in 2021. The guy is absolutely rapid

In fact, in terms of F1 expats of the last fifteen years, he's by far has the best career, much better than even Rossi, who's on a notable downswing right now, and Montoya, whose legacy was hurt by the Daytona incident despite also having a good Indycar and sportscar career after the fact.

i think Kamui was like a *never* cooked Schumacher. came from nowhere, then immediately have shown his talent. evidently, Kamui never had a chance to step in a championship winning car, but compared to the greats when they were in a mediocre machinery, Kamui was never far off to make stand-out performances. had he been a bit lucky enough, let's say, even just to drive a Williams in 2014, i think he would've been still in F1 to this day. he was just short of some spotlight, and obviously, financial backing. Kamui will always be the best Japanese driver ever.

I loved the video but I’ll agree with several others: his career after F1 was anything but disappointing, with his performance for Gazoo being legendary. He holds the outright fastest lap at Le Mans (a record I doubt will be broken anytime soon) and has been a star in the car over and over again. Also, two Daytona wins and is generally regarded as an endurance racing legend. One of the best to ever do it, no question.

Since leaving F1 he's done really well in the World Endurance Championship and at Le Mans. In 2016 he should've won Le Mans but the car retired from the lead of the race with just 1 lap to go of the 24 hours which is the unluckiest event I've ever seen in racing tbh. In 2017 he claimed the Le Mans lap record by quite a margin and as the current Hypercar class is so much slower than the old LMP1's it's unlikely his record will be beaten for a long while if ever at all. In fact not just at Le Mans but most of Toyota's pole positions in WEC have actually been claimed by Kamui. In 2020 he finished 3rd at Le Mans despite leading a lot of the race but dropped back due to technical issues and damage, but the year did improve as he ended up winning the championship. In 2021 he also won the world championship now making him a 2 time WEC champion but also in 2021 at long last he won Le Mans which if not for technical problems he would've already won 3 times before. And obviously he still has a good shot of winning the WEC championship this year as well

2019 and 2020 24 Hrs of Daytona winner. 2nd place by 3.5 secs in 2021. His overtakes were amazing in the 2020 win. I am sorry this F1 only, view of the racing world is just plain odd. 3rd place (on track) at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Fangio, Moss, Hawthorn, Gurney, Andretti, Ickx, Rodriguez, Ickx, Phil Hill, Brundle, Redman, Rahal, Scott Dixon etc. won these races. And with the ultra reliability and BOP of modern endurance cars more top 5 overtakes in these IMSA DPI races that Kobayashi competed in, than a whole F1 season, so no quippy replies please. I saw his drive at the 2017 WEC COTA, even though he finished 4th (a safety car and points concerns stunted #7's effort) in LMP1 it was one of the best drives I have ever seen in person. The 2016 WEC Fuji win was a classic drive. I think there are 5 pinnacles in motor sports IMSA/WEC, WRC, F1, Indycar, and even NASCAR. I have seen in person 14 F1 World Champions and numerous F1 race winners, drive in Can Am, Indy, F1, IMSA and WEC. They often did not dominate and often were beaten. I am not sure about your knowledge of motor racing.

I watched his gp2 series and f1 career, even becoming 16th, he had mad moves on track when the dams had his day, the difference between all the other low ending drivers was enormous, even tho results where the same. Outdriving trulli 2 times was very impressive, it truly was not trulli's best year, but he was a good driver. In soccer players from bad teams get to the top aswell, racing can be the same. It's the only ''pay'' driver i'm still kinda sour about, with his 8 million, it was about 30% of what a couple other drivers where paying, with the oil sponsor money going crazy those years. Micheal schumacher paid 6 million well over a decade before that, so its not that much for a talented driver to pay to show he earns a spot with the best, kamui deserved that too, but sadly ericsson came. Today you will never get these talented pay drivers anymore, because besides oil money you have daddy money aswell.

I have to disagree by you saying his career is a disappointment after F1. F1 is not the center of everything. Honestly I'd argue his career right now is far better than F1 after he redirects his focus for Endurance/Sportscar racing. Kamui has always been one of the fastest sportscar drivers around and practically a legend in the sport now. He's a 1x Le Mans 24H winner, a WEC World Champion, 2x Daytona 24H winner, holds the record for the fastest lap in Le Mans and now also has double duty as a Driver/Team Principal for Toyota Gazoo Racing in WEC. His career arguably has far more significance in the general motorsport world compared to most F1 drivers.
