Sidney has taken the NHL to another level, a lot of people watch the Pens play because of Sidney, he is one of few that has carried the NHL. There has been several great players come and go in the NHL but very few legends, Sidney will be a legend when his playing days are over. Pittsburgh was very lucky to have won the draft lottery to be able to pick Sidney, he save that franchise from leaving the city. New England had Brady, Chicago had Jordan, the NHL, Penguins and hockey fans have Crosby. We may never see another person and player like Sidney.

Had Crosby not gotten hurt at the Winter Classic, we would have looked at that season the same way we look at McDavid’s 2022-23. Also want to note: Sid is currently tied for 5th all-time in playoff points with Jagr (in 28 fewer games). The only players ahead of him played with Gretzky and the Oilers in the 80s, plus Gretzky himself. Plus the gold medal, 3 Cups, 2 Conn Smythes…it’s good enough for 5th all time for me. Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, Howe, then Crosby.

As a diehard Pens fan, it's truly hard to describe Sid's legacy. Not just as a great player, but as a person. Watch the little things he does on the ice, the puck battles the small plays that set up great chances, and you truly start to appreciate his greatness. He's one of the best to ever play this great sport. I met him in 2019 and it was a thrill of a lifetime as he signed my puck . Very nice to me. Thanks for this video. Malkin should get one too as he is so underappreciated.

He changed the game and brought in a whole new era. His name was literally synonymous with the game in those years. Plus, he's got 3 cups. Legend status

I have a lot of respect for Crosby, he fits the mold of the CANADIAN hockey superstar quite nicely. He's not only a great hockey player but he's a good person and not the typical sports star, with the superego to go along with it. During the 2014 Winter Olympics he was the glue that pulled that team together and although his stats don't jump off the page, he was always lurking and dangerous.

It’s unfortunate that he had serious injuries when he hit his exact prime. I remember Don Cherry on Coaches Corner doing his thing on Sid and screaming ‘look at this! Look at his head going back and he wasn’t even hit to the head!” That was signs of a concussion that were never picked up. He missed about 200 games which if he played those games he’d have over 650 goals and approximately 1900 points. BEAUTY! Side note…at this point in the season Crosby is leading the NHL in face off winning percentage. BEAUTY!

Been so awesome living in Pittsburgh my whole life and watching him since I was 11. When I was 19 I got in a serious motorcycle accident and while being in Children’s Institute for rehab, Crosby delivered 4 tickets to me. He’s a good guy on and off the ice

I've been a Penguins fan since 1990, ever since I saw Le Magnifique, Mario Lemieux. Sid had a great leader to learn from, and it is truly amazing that the Penguins have had 2 exceptional players in Lemieux and Crosby who were able to overcome severe career setbacks, and still remain dominant in the game. As for a favourite moment, I would have to say the 2010 playoffs where Sid danced around the Ottawa Senators, and setup Kirs Letang for a goal. That performance was truly magic on skates.

I really only started watching at the end of the 2022 season but growing up I always heard about Sidney Crosby and how he brought the gold back to Canada 🙂

Crosby would of been the 2nd player in NHL history to reach 2,000 points. No doubt in my mind, if he didn’t have those injuries during his prime he might have had a real shot. So happy I was able to see him play, from a Blues fan.

A little back story about the 2005 draft. Craig Patrick (shown w/ Lemieux & Crosby 3:17) the Pen's general manager was given a four leaf clover by a woman who worked in the Pens organization to take with him. He also stopped at St. Patrick's Cathedral to pray. Not a religious person myself, but who knows if it was divine intervention that put Crosby in Pittsburgh.

Feel blessed to have watched this man play hockey for my team my entire life. I got to witness him bring 3 cups to my hometown team. I had Sid like my father had Lemieux. I don’t think I’ll ever see another dominant player for the Pens in my lifetime. But who knows what the future holds.

You should have also mentioned his faceoff prowess to demonstrate his commitment. When he came into the league his faceoff percentage was low and he apparently worked and worked on it and got it to mid 50s. Pure determination.

I started wathing ice hockey and nhl tournment quite recently and it's so lucky that i found your video about one og the goats of the game. Young Sid and Malkin were a scary duo to watch. I dreaded each time my favourite teams would play them. Many nights the channel would get changed in the second period because the game was already over!

Hands down the BEST grinder I've ever seen play the game. Always in the dirty areas, hard to play against. I can't say anything bad about him or his game.

It is insane that the Pens were in such dire straits considering the franchise was not far removed from Mario Lemiuex and Jaromir Jagr. That organization is very fortunate (not to mention Malkin or Letang). Fave Moments were his first cup and that golden goal. Absolute #legend

Sadly I made a detailed video about Crosby and how good he was before the concussions. KZfaq blocked it so I had to delete it. I explained how on average nhl players peak in season 6 of their careers. Crosby was in his 6th year on pace for 65 goals and 130+ points in dead puck era. He also just came off a 50 goal season the year before so Crosby was actually getting better each year at just 24 years old and in his 6th NHL season he was about to hit a new level which was 50-60 goal scorer every year like Ovi except Crosby would have 120-140 points a year as well...whereas ovi just scores goals but doesn't get that many points. Crosby started his first 6 years all on pace for 100+ points ....so he was basically a lock to get 100+ points every single year for his career.....but after the concussion in the early part of his 6th and greatest season ever, he only recorded 2 more 100 point seasons for the rest of his career ...imagine that. So we've witnessed a less than prime Crosby the rest of his career, and yet he was still the best player in the NHL who went on to win 2 more cups for a total of 3. So imagine how good he would have been without the concussions and missed nearly 2 years of NHL hockey. He'd easily finish his career with 2000+ points and probably 700+ goals. But even after his career was almost ended several times, he may still finish his career with 1800+ points! Imagine that! A diminished Crosby since 24 years old still goes on to have 1800 points in the NHL and finish top 3 all time in points. That's how good he was in his prime.

Prime Crosby is unrivaled IMO, he had complete success in the pros and international. At a time where both where actually the best of the best. Also look at what he is doing at his age right now. I dont think anyone has been able to perform at this level at his age

As a penguins fan it still irks me to wonder what might have been had he not lost that time due to injuries. He’d probably have another 150 points and maybe another cup throughout his career without them.

He was there with Grets, Mario and Howe. Top 5 ever.

I watched 100s of prime Crosby games growing up. He had insane regular season numbers, but trust me, it could’ve been way more. For starters he would take pretty much any top 9 forward and turn them into 30-40 goal scorers in the lowest scoring era ever. Imagine if he actually played on a line with elite guys in his prime. As well as eventually he learned he needed to just get through the regular season healthy. He would put in a 90-100 point season and is still over point per game to this day. Reason being, when it’s playoff time, Crosby takes it to a new level and is basically the greatest grinder of all time while having a generational skill set and hockey IQ. I think he might be the most complete player of all time. I could go on for many many more paragraphs of why he’s the most complete but honestly his game speaks for itself and many others share the same opinion.

During that one year with no hockey, Sid came down to my local dek hockey rink and played in net for the Pens assistants team. He played in the game after mine, and I specifically heard him comment “nice pass” on a pass I made at the end of the game. I didn’t know it was him until after his game ended and it was revealed. Nobody knew until then - except the people in the game.

Sid is still in his prime. He maintains his status as the most complete hockey player in the world. He has no flaws.

As a flyers fan, I dreaded playing against him from 05’ to 18’, he’s still a threat today. He’s top 5 all time, he’s the complete package. Only thing McDavid has on Crosby is his speed and explosiveness, but once mcdavid hits 30’s, he won’t be able to impact the game like how Crosby did in his 30’s.

If only I knew the future ... I could have gotten up on Saturday mornings and walked 500 feet over to Cole Harbour Place where the rink was and watched Sidney play hockey as a youngster. It would have been fun to see him advancing his skills with every game.

I remember in high school, my uncle gave me his penguins tickets so I took my girlfriend. They were right above where the pens came onto the ice. It was after one of the periods, I’m cheering them on going back into the locker room. Then all of a sudden my gf tells me to look to the down. Crosby was standing there with a puck in his hand. I did not even see him…he must’ve been standing there for 20 seconds before I realized…yet he stood patiently until I took the puck. Had the chance to shake his hand years later during the back to back cups. Great man

He is the greatest of his generation and top 5, all time, IMO. You asked what makes him great and sets him apart. To me, it’s his mid-core strength, his thick and muscular thighs and his big kaboose butt! Because of this, his edges are spectacular. You need a high hockey IQ and he has that too.

When I saw the title it occurred to me that there’s actually a large portion of hockey fans that are too young to of seen/remember what prime Ovi and Crosby were like.
