Two men caught in storms 50 years apart made this amazing hymn what it is today. Thank God for Carl Boberg and Stuart Hine, through whom we have this song. May your soul sing and your heart sing "how great Thou art!"

Verse 1
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy pow’r thru-out the universe displayed!
Chorus
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Verse 2
When thru the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze,
Chorus
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Verse 3
And when I think that God, His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in -
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin!
Chorus
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Verse 4
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art!
Chorus
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

Love this hymn. Lifts the spirit. We sang it at our wedding and was sung at the internment of my dear man’s ashes after a long challenging Alzheimer’s journey knowing he’s was safe in the arms of Jesus! God bless you richly as share beautiful hymns with us🙏🏻🙏🏻

This was my dad’s favorite song. He recorded it shortly before he died and asked that we play it at his funeral. Miss him so much, but I know he is with the Lord enjoying His beauty & meditating in His temple.

This song is appreciated for its emotive power, and focus on God's grace and majesty. Its simple, repetitive lyrics are easy for worshipers to pick up and participate in singing praise together. The sweeping melody builds from gentle awe to triumphant exaltation, mirroring the transcendence of the lyrics. The hymn creates a reflective, reverent mood perfect for worship services and ceremonies.

Thank you for bringing to light the history of the song. This song was our daily school prayer song and whenever we sing this song in the church and in our family prayer there is something that happens in the heart and a beautiful joy enters our heart.

While working as a youth director for the summer at 1,000 Trails Campround Emigrant Gap, CA, campfires sing-a-longs took requests. I requested this song, and the leader put it on me to sing, since it wasn’t a Sunday service. Nervously and self-consciously, I took the karaoke mic, and suddenly a visiting camper from the Philippines, a lady my age now (50’s) said “I will sing with you!”. We belted out praise to our King in the Sierra Nevada, and many of the young kids this Pied Piper was leading for activities were very excited at our rendition. I know God used that insecure moment to cast some seed for His Name, and will see that lady from the Philippines again soon, when we’re home.

In Australia, we sing rolling thunder, which if you live here it does roll. Last year we had one such thunderstorm, the worst clap of rolling thunder I have heard in many years. It was a reminder of things to come as the earth makes its judgment upon the people who are destroying it.

I was going to a young "Baptist" church- at least the building was, but the preacher was a missionary on medical leave from a mission in Irian Jaya. I became a "born again" believer, and this hymn resonated with me. The words drew me closer to realizing the importance of knowing the Saviour closely in order to worship Him from my heart. The beauty of this hymn goes deep.

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; . . ." Our senses are very reliable, and with them we understand this song's wonder at creation, both great and small, but oh that which is known in the heart, the greatest expression, which is His great love "wherewith He loved us" and sent His only Son to cloth us in that love.

Thank you Luke. I just found your channel, and you minister to my soul. Today I’m grieving my Mom who died 3 years ago on the 14th of August (3 days from now). Not only was this her favorite hymn, but it was my Grandmother’s also. I’m remembering her celebration service right now as you are telling the story of this great hymn, and I can almost see her bowing in adoration when she met our Lord. I sang along with joy as the lyrics ministered to me in these moments. Indeed, How Great Thou Art! From Johnson City, Tennessee

On a spring morning of 2019, it was a normal day and I was getting ready for work. Suddenly the brightness of the sun flooded the room and this song, ‘Morning Has Broken’, came blasting powerfully and majestically through the radio. I felt the strong presence of the Lord fall upon me and I fell down weeping and praising the Lord. I was born again in that moment, I have followed Jesus ever since. This song is very special to me. That morning was like my first morning, His feet passed by me and my life was transformed. It brought me to tears watching this video, thank you for singing this song. God bless you brother 🙌🙌

Ek sê hierdie alles in groot liefde.
