Ive been in transport ( heavy long distance) for decades in Australia. Even with dangerous goods, it was always amazing how customers and companies would hire anyone if it was cheaper. Always it ends in tears. In the end the damage and delays always bite the customers in the backside, but they never learn.

I once worked at CarMax for their inventory department. A trucker came in sweating head to toe. The entire time he didn't want to speak and I asked him if he was alright. He stuttered a lot and rarely said anything. He handed me the car title and I went outside to his truck to check the car. When I saw the car it was completely destroyed. I asked what happened and he stuttered a lot while saying it fell off his truck.

Love the stories! Moving my cars have always been a pain. Had to ship a car from Orlando to Salt Lake and it took them a few days longer than they predicted and I had to raise hell about that. Recently I bought an R32 GTR I had imported from Japan into Washington State and part of the purchase was shipping to my home in Los Angeles was included in the price. I couldn't go drive it home due to California refusing to register it until I have modifications for CARB. So the driver shows up (on time) but says I owe 400 dollars in delivery fees. After more hell was raised I paid it and called the company I bought it from who were upset as this guy apparently pulled that once before. Since then I know they aren't with those guys and the seller reimbursed me. So yeah, car shippers are the most difficult group of people I have had to deal with.
@KingOath
@KingOath 6 жыл бұрын
Oh man... why not just hire a shipping container, load and secure the car yourself. Get a container truck to pick it up and Express post the car and container keys seperately. The buyer drives the car out of the container after it’s been unloaded and you arrange for the container to be picked up once they have done so. Might be a bit more expensive but surely it’s worth it for these types of cars

🗣MCFLY 🗣MCFLY ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼 🗣 HELLO is there anybody in there MCFLY????? Shipping isn't a good option for moving cars as all shipping ports are on the coastlines around the outside of America so they can't get anywhere close to 98% of the states! which is why shipping is mostly used for country to country not state to state, driving from the middle of America to the nearest coastline port to get your car can be as long a drive as the actual transport would have been in the first place so defeats the purpose, and as for the normal port trucks delivering the container to you how you going to get a crane to get the container off??? Because that's how it would have to work to remain flat! The smaller trucks with no trailer just tip the container up at a very steep angle and harshly slide the container off the back onto the ground! (No doubt Sending the car smashing into the container doors) and then it's still getting delivered by a truck! But more dangerously because it has to be crane lifted onto a ship! transported at sea! Crane lifted from a ship onto a truck! Travel to destination then be crane lifted from truck again! The percentage of an accident is WAY higher! And WAY more expensive! Don't you think these guys have thought about this (bright idea) at some point already MCFLY???

@FreeYourBrains
@FreeYourBrains 5 жыл бұрын
IF YOU HAVE AND ARE WILLING to spend $500K for equipment, and pay $3000 monthly insurance, to be cheaped out by hungry dealers, yes by my guest. trust me there are a whole lot of trucking companies with very expensive specialized equipment, but this buttholes of dealer they only wanna make money for them self. They make $50K-$80K profit and won't pay an extra $1500 for proper transport. That's why after 4 years in carhauling I said : enough.

If you let a exotic climb in anything else than a proper enclosed car hauler trailer I'd say it's the customer's fault for the final results. There are many things that can go wrong down the road, and greed, and stupidity, but in that moment when you let some super low exotic climb an absurde angle it's your fault.

Driving up to Seattle this weekend from Boise to pick up a car I've wanted for 20 years. It's not an exotic or anything but to me it's a lifelong dream.

It is partially about a Ferrari. I had the title as "How hard is it to ship an exotic car across the country" and decided to sub in the Ferrari because it was shorter and got the same point across.

I don't get it. He's complaining that the guys that ship cars for 80cents/mile are not qualified for the job and he doesn't like that. At the same time he says proper shipping would be availlable for double the cost but he wouldn't do it. If you want to be cheap and save every possible penny on a transaction don't expect professionals to take care of it, it's easy like that. The customers who order a car for more than $100k are able to pay for better service, so talk to your customer and tell him he has two options, a cheap one where a hillbilly that doesn't care about anything does the shipping or a moderatelly more expensive sollution where professionals handle the job. I guess most customers would be happy to use the second offer, and the ones that took the first one should be prepared that they get what they ordered.

Lexor888 But customers won't pay for better service, they expect it, but won't pay for it. Trucking is an industry where undercutting is so absurdly commonplace. Here in Australia we have what's called a 457 visa. It is intended for employers to be able to hire a foreigner (usually Indian or Chinese because they'll accept the lowest wages) when there are too few qualified locals. Of course, this gets abused in the name of cost cutting, so you get these guys that speak little to no english and their previous driving experience is probably a hatchback in New Delhi. No one cares about service or quality in shipping, They just want what they've bought quickly and cheaply.

As Matt Johns just posted, these people are too damned cheap to do it right and hire a company that is actually profesional. These are likely the kind of people who would walk away or maybe even sue if the dealer would explain in full detail and with pictures that a more expensive, yet competent and fully insured hauler is the only way they will ship the car.
@Lexor888
@Lexor888 6 жыл бұрын
He's a salesman, just sell it to the customer. Give them the hard facts, "sir we only ship with this company because . They can still choose to hire a different company on their own. You won't hand over your supercar for inspection to a guy that does some repairs for his friends in his own garage, even though it's way cheaper than the Ferrari inspection. Also you won't by spare parts from china.

Lexor888 yes, but it seems that such a relationship (where the dealership had a preferred best option shipper) didn’t exist...if I understand Ed frequently had to cut business ties with companies due to a catastrophe

Why is this channel so interesting to me? I've never watched more videos on a single channel than this one and I don't know why. I love it though, this guy tells stories like Tolkien writes four books. Edit: Typing out my comment I realized why this channel is so good. He tells stories very well. Thanks, bye.

Yeeeeeeppppp I just bought my first sports car (by that I mean high output coupe) and I've been trying to get it shipped. The first broker was a scammer, the second made me sign a contract 6 days out then on the day of pickup called and said the delivery wouldn't happen but I was still being charged, and the third broker won't even touch it until the second broker releases it from contract (which they won't for another 8 days). The worst part is, now broker 2 is trying to get about $1.10 per mile, which is 90% more than what we agreed upon, and is blaming it on being the busy season. Now, my car has been sitting for 8 days since I paid for it in full (8 states away) and I'm completely fucked, the dealer is fucked, and I have to fly halfway across the country to drive the damn thing back myself, which throws a serious wrench in my plans. I even tried getting into central dispatch and setting it up myself, but of course they figured out that I'm not a dealer and kicked me off. And of course, if I can even get a driver for the car, I will have to take a goddamn shotgun to go pick it up because I have NO clue on what kind of trucker I'm gonna get driving my car home... which there are only 243 of in the entire world so IF (when) he breaks it, there will be no hope of repairing it, or replacing it, as of those 243, maybe 50 are left...
