Hailing from Fontana, CA Chauncy "Hit-Boy" Hollis Jr. got started making beats in his bedroom and posting them on Myspace. Producer Polo Da Don found Hit on the platform and reached out immediately. Within weeks they were working together, and placing tracks with artists like J.Lo and Lil Wayne. Eventually his beat CD would catch the attention of Kanye West and Hit would be pulled into the GOOD Music cipher where he would mint his position with the indelible smash, "N***** In Paris." In the next years he would go on to make more classics for Ye and Jay, as well as ASAP Rocky, Drake and Beyonce. However, a decision to bounce from Hawaii during the Cruel Summer sessions to work with Beyonce would alienate his mentor, Kanye, and derail his momentum. But Hit-Boy was undaunted and went back to basics, honing his craft and quietly placing tracks until his Travis Scott and Drake collab, "Sicko Mode", would drop in 2018 and announce his second coming. In the subsequent 3 years he's won Grammy's and made unforgettable bodies of work with Nipsey Hustle, Nas and Big Sean.

Hit boy is very different man, he just produced Nas's album "Magic" absolutely crazy beats. So much longevity, like it's not going nowhere for a long time. Niggas in Paris changed the world too.

After watching multiple interviews & documentary's about Record Producers I've come to realize one huge elephant in the room - all of these guys grew up with or had family members already in the industry. Those connections allowed them to get their foot in the door & it rings true here as well with Hit Boy. Never forget that lesson, "life isn't about what you know but, who you know."

Not even 'hit-boy' super fan as such but this interview was truly beautiful and necessary for me right now. Especially considering the whole he had a massive high quite young, dipped and then came out of that even stronger and is now shining. Such a real representation of the ups and downs of a creative career and not letting that get you down/ to continue to persevere.

The MySpace era. A time when you could be a nobody and connect with whoever you wanted and if you had talent, they’d meet with you in real life. So many incredible connections were made during this time. Now it’s all about your “following” and “influence” before anything.
@noneofyourbusiness1114

People sleep on that era of online music. Indie hip hop in particular was booming and hell alot of the screamo/SoundCloud rap that was big In 2015 was already a thing on myspace it just didn't have a following.

Hit-Boy is one of the rare beat maker that is able to put his flavor on beats while at the same time adapting for any artists. I 100% agree when he talk about his work with Nas at 25:07 . To add on top of that, his beat often end up a culture classic for the artist. He deserve all the recognition that comes to him

And later just kept building on business and the end-to-end production process from all the relationships he built. You can really tell was destined to succeed w/ his mindset
