Would you pay to fly in a hypersonic plane?

Yes, but we all know how expensive it will be in the beginning but cost will be cut as the industry improves. Clearly, corporations would be interested so they will be the first. Computers were lumpy and expensive in the beginning but now cheap. It will take time.

You are making advertising for the opposite of what we need environmentally. This shit produce more CO2 per person for one london-new York than my entire life will

While the engines are still in R&D, what kind of fuel economy are they expecting? I can't imagine this helps reduce emissions versus existing planes (which are already not the best in terms of emissions).

No it doesnt. Planes burn more and more fuel the faster they go past the speed of sound, due to drag. It costs 3 to 7 times more fuel per passenger to have supersonic flight.

It's just an investor money grab

I believe the plan is to travel higher so drag will be lower, so maybe there will be less energy requirements

these planes achieve ridiculously high L/D ratios due to a sort of compression lift where the shockwaves are redirected downward. L/D mainly affects an aircraft ranges as well as how much thrust is needed at cruise flight. and at high atmosphere, there is not much air slowly the aircraft down so there will not be a need for constant high thrust. these aircraft’s will be viable for super long routes in terms of economic viability and reduction in carbon emissions

@@josecamino2281where will they fly from? You do realise the same problems were with the concorde, and theoretically it was supposed to solve them the same way you are pitching them but the oposite happened.

There are like 24 startups doing this. Concorde was a multinational state-sponsored effort similar to the space race. It's delusional to think you can do better as a tiny startup when Concorde couldn't do it (profitably). This is a VC money grab as usual.

Lol 2023 for a small, uncrewed version? Come on WSJ! Unless they can make that tiny model do MACH 4 this year, this is snake oil.

Very bad for the environment, we need a long range mass market zero CO2 emissions aircraft that is a 100% replacement for current mass polluter jets

@@HFStudio39 They will fail. There's no market for anything hypersonic other than the military. We don't even have supersonic commercial flights, and if one were to start up they would fail commercially as well. The whole point of flying nowdays is to get the absolute cheapest fare, at a pace that's slightly faster than a bus. For everything else there's Zoom, telework and telepresence robots.
