I originally just clicked on this video because it was a video on the Hobonichi Weeks. However, it's really made me think about my ADHD for the first time again in a few years. I was diagnosed years ago, but have come to realise that I've been kind of neglecting myself. That probably wasn't your intention - but I sincerely thank you for this :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. 🥹 It makes me so happy to hear this. In an unexpected way, using my Hobonichi books triggered a lot of self-reflection on my ADHD (and its relationship to my GAD) because somehow using these books regularly motivated me to take better care of myself. I’m glad it’s contributed to you thinking about your ADHD again, and I hope it leads to positive outcomes. 🥰

Sidenote / idea of something to track (stick with me here, I swear it'll all relate back to meal planning/cooking LOL): This past year I started tracking my period and learned about something called "inner seasons" where each phase of your menstrual cycle relates to a season (ex: your period is winter). When I started tracking them, it suddenly explained SO much about my dips in energy or motivation, fluctuating social battery, sudden urges to nest/organize/declutter, etc. Before, I would get down on myself for not "being consistent" or I would push and push myself past my limits to be what I thought was "normal" (I'm a pro at burnout!). Learning about the inner seasons was really life-changing in that I'm now able to tell in advance when I'll have energy/motivation and when I won't, so I can plan things accordingly. HOW THIS RELATES TO FOOD: Your energy is at its lowest when you're on your period so that's when I'm least likely to have motivation to cook or grocery shop. BUT if I make the most of my summer and autumn phases (days 15 to bleed, depending on each person's cycle) where my energy is at its highest (summer - ovulation phase) or my instinct to nest/organize is at its highest (autumn - luteal phase) then I can batch cook a meal or two and stick them in the freezer for when I'm on my period and most want to hole up and hibernate. (There's also a whole aspect of what types of foods your body naturally craves during different phases of your cycle, which can also really help with meal planning! I can share if anyone's interested, but I've already written a lot LOL Don't want to overwhelm anyone more than I already have! 😅) Hope this was helpful!

You are AWESOME! Thank you so much for this! I have not thought about connecting my menstrual cycle's "inner seasons" with my energy levels in this way before. I love the idea of leaning into your energy levels and adapting your meal planning around them. That's brilliant! 🤯 Thanks again for sharing this! ✨

My feed is either adhd content or hobonichi, so no surprise this was recommended to me!

💗 It’s a natural pairing - at least for me. Just enough structure to keep me focused, but full of fun features to keep me wanting to use the book for throughout the year. 🥲

What if you used the 365 check off to track types of meals (pasta, stir fry, soup) or protein base using color coding? I think it would be helpful to keep meals varied since the color pattern would make that really clear. You could also track how you ate, cook, leftovers, eat out, order in. Good luck with your planning and thanks for sharing!

😍 thank you! I LOVE those ideas! I am feel like we’re in danger of having the same few proteins each week, but I don’t know if that’s true or not. It’d be good to confirm if that’s true or not, and seeing it visually would be easier to do than flipping through my weekly pages. I also love the idea of tracking how I ate throughout the year. I think it will be mainly cooking and leftovers, but will that actually true by the end of the year? Thanks again for the great ideas!

Fellow ADHD (possibly AuDHD) planner here! I've always struggled with meal planning and have never, ever managed to do it. Seeing this video is really inspiring me to start coming up with a list of go-to meals I can refer back to (similar to your recipe cards) so that I don't look like an utter guppy every time my husband asks: "Do you want something from the grocery store?" (Answer is always yes, but I never know what because I haven't planned anything. *sigh*)

Oh my gosh, I feel this so much. Going back and forth on what to eat or buy at the grocery store was a common (and exhausting) conversation between us. I'm lucky that my partner doesn't mind doing the grocery shopping for the most part, but if I don't have a specific ask, he'll just by the same 3-5 vegetables every week. As much as I would like to eat the same things each day of the week, I get bored easily (ha!) and need a bit more variety. So this has helped, though I do wonder if there will be a point where I'll need "more variety" from my recipe cards. I'm glad you found this video helpful, and I hope you're able to come up with satisfactory list of go-to meals! :)

I’m glad you shared your process. Breaking each thing down into simple steps and setting aside the time for organizing your process makes me more energized to do something similar.

Thank you for taking the time to comment! I'm so glad to hear that you are feeling energized to do something similar. It took a bit of time in the beginning to get used to the process, but now it's super quick and barely takes any time or energy (unless I want to try a fancy recipe or am cooking for a large group of people). I hope it goes well, and let me know if you have any questions! :)

This is a great video! I still trying to find systems that will work for me! Love your thoughts about finding systems, adapting, finding accommodations that would work for you! You love to see your lunch ideas! For meal planning, one idea I like is from from Kristan Kremer here on KZfaq. The video is called meal planning for the whole month in my Erin Condren. She has theme days like Fridays are for grilled chicken and Saturdays are for salad. She also alternate meals every other week on some days like Saturdays, for example weeks 1 and 3 are southwest salad and weeks 2 and 4 are chicken bacon salad.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and for the recommendation to check out Kristan! We’ve tried to create themes for the week in the past, but it failed. I think it was mostly my fault for struggling to stick with the schedule😅, and I think our old approach had us cooking more often than we are now. I’ll have to see how Kristan is approaching it to see if I could adapt our plan and make it even more streamlined. I hope you are able to land on a system that works for you soon! ☺️

Thanks for sharing, I also have ADHD and I can see myself in a lot of the things you struggle with, like issues with concentration or staying in task

Thanks for taking the time to comment! 🥰 It can be so frustrating (and exhausting) to manage these issues on a regular basis. A friend mentioned “ADHD burnout” to me the other day, and that resonated so much for me. 😅

I was inspired to meal plan this year by you and a couple other planner channels, and I recently switched to using the same Weeks for meal planning and logging as well. It has been really helpful, I wish I'd done this sooner. Thanks for sharing your process!

Thank you for taking the time to comment 💗 I'm happy to hear that you've found this helpful! It can be really hard to build new habits, so it's amazing that you're taking on meal planning in 2024 (also - yay to choosing a Weeks! I'm obsessed with this mighty little book)! You've got this! 🍽️

Ahh, that is so exciting! Even though my Cousin is my main daily driver since I use it for taking notes, I LOVE the Weeks and think it's my favourite format! Great idea to wait for the April start, that'll give you time to think about it a bit more. :) Thanks again for watching my videos and taking the time to comment. 🥺 I appreciate you so much! 🥰

This is really well thought out! But having listened to a few of your videos, I'm starting to understand the perfectionist mindset you struggle with bc to me (I'm not a perfecfionist, but I'm not sloppy either haha), it was pretty stressful for me to listen to your systems/plannings bc it reminds me of work and task/sprint plannings, it's very rigid for me (though I can't say I'm a wing-it kind of person either😅) But it's amazing that this kind of system works for you!❤

Thank you for taking the time to listen to a few of my videos, and for sharing this thoughtful, honest comment! 🤩 You are clearly perceptive - I do struggle with perfectionist tendencies, and working through them (/ learning to let go more) continues to be a lifelong experiment. I could create an entire series on all the cognitive distortions and unhealthy coping mechanisms I'm working on overcoming -- but that would probably be even more stressful to listen to! I'm sorry if some of my previous videos caused any stress! As for my systems and planning reminding you of work.... you caught me 😂 I borrowed a lot of ideas and systems that I observed working well / less well from my time in tech. I thought I'd try discarding what I didn't like, and adopting what I did towards to my personal planning system(s). This is after years of moving through my personal life without any structure and struggling. As I've spent more time researching and learning more about ADHD, something that resonated with me was how helpful structure can be. I decided to put in an honest effort towards adding more structure into my life to see if it would help relieve my symptoms. It's a work in progress and I'm sure it'll continue to evolve over time! My partner also works in tech, so all of this is an easier "sell" to him as well. I can totally understand how it could be stressful to listen to, though, especially if you're looking for a break from thinking about work. 😅 Thanks again for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. I appreciate you!

In the 365 days checkout page, maybe you could use different colors in the shapes to signify different things like, ate out, had leftovers, cooked a meal, etc. to get a big picture of what that's looking like over the whole year. On the yearly overview page, maybe you could track the protein that you're eating for dinner. I feel like both of those things might be interesting to see and also wouldn't be super stressful to track because it would be relatively easy to back fill or batch fill based on all the stuff you're already keeping track of. (I see other people in the comments also suggested similar things)

Hi! 😍 Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I like your idea of using the 365 check list for source of meal (a bit more close-ended) and the annual tracker for something more open-ended like protein or cuisine where I can write it in. You know me well - the fact that I can batch-fill both of those things is key for me 😅
