Then TheDanceMacabre posted that "it's still points on your license, and you can reschedule", and proceeded to tell his tale about the ticket for 20 over. So my response to his post was that it (the actual video/story) was for an equipment violation and there would be no points on license. Other than feeling good about yourself for "clearing your name", there's no reason to fight the equipment violation ticket if it's inconvenient, since you aren't saving any money, and you aren't keeping a "clean record" (since those aren't driving record offenses).

I make it a point to fight any ticket I feel isn't just. I spent $350/hr on a lawyer to fight a failure to yield right of way ticket, and won. This is also the same lawyer I have paid three other times to fight charges I was innocent of, including two serious felonies. He's a good lawyer and I have never been convicted of anything when he's defended me on. He's also not cheap. In your case, If my lawyer said we had a decent chance, I might have blown my entire bank account trying to get that cop's qualified immunity revoked so I could sue him personally. Not to mention the civil case against the city. At the very least, I would have had my lawyer file a formal complaint with the police department, using the video as evidence. Don't make me and others like me do all the heavy lifting. You must knock these clowns down when they get too uppity. It's our duty as citizens to one another. The fact that you made bank on social media will do nothing to change this guy's behavior. That can only happen when the municipality's insurance has to step in to settle a law suit. Now, because you didn't fight it, he'll think he can get away with it, and others in the community will have to deal with his shit.

I think a fantastic response is to figure out what the worst thing to happen at the hands of a cop in your local area was, make sure that it wasn't in the same department, city, or county, and then when they ask you hey who's your buddy, respond with I don't know man who was that cop that shot some 13-year-old black kid 2 years ago you know him? Cuz if every bikeer knows each other then surely every cop knows each other, which means if I'm responsible for another biker's decision, then clearly that cop is responsible for that other cop's decision.

IMHO they seem angry when they don't get their way. People on a power trip. This kind of psychology can be revealed in proper testing, something which the military conducts on applicants because having this behavior rear its head in people with routine access to weapons of mass murder is not a good idea. IMHO police department hiring should include the same mandatory testing, and hiring formerly fired cops shouldn't even be legal - they should be on a register like sex offenders because you don't get fired as a cop unless you REALLY fked up bad.

As an fyi you can request a continuance from the town clerk in most states. Call the town clerk to plead not guilty and then just ask to reschedule the court date to a day that works. Most towns usually hold court on 2-3 days a week so if yur scheduled for Tuesday, ask for Thursday. The only way abusive cops like that will learn is if they are held accountable, which will never happen if you don't fight and go before a judge. Personally, if the options were $50 ticket or $1000of lawyer/ court costs, i would spend that $1000 everytime, eapecially if i was innocent.

It was such an open and shut case. He wouldn't even of needed a lawyer. Go to court, tell the judge your side of the story and the video should have cleared him. Worse case, they find you guilty and you pay the ticket you already would have had to pay and $30 Cort cost, no lawyer fee. I would have faught it on principle. I've gotten so many tickets reduced or dismissed just by talking to the prosecutor and doing research. My favorite one was when I asked a cop on the stand about discretion. Asked if he ever say, caught someone for speeding and either gave them a different ticket or a reduced speeding ticket to be nice. I think the judge knew where i was going. Yes, yes I have. Your honor, he just admitted he lied on official government forms, how can his testimony be trusted here today. Dismissed. Made sure I didn't go through that town for a while. I got paced twice over 120mph in a 40mph zone. The cop said the second time I was still pulling away over 120pmh. Left court with one speeding ticket for 1=14mph over the limit. You don't always need a lawyer. Learn to work the system like they do. Some tickets revenue automatically goes to the state, while othe tickets revenue goes to the town. You think the town would rather reduce a ticket and keep the money in town or send the money to the state coffers?
