I have a little over 50,000 miles seat time. Hard, vigorous miles. Still have anxiety before every ride. Every rider should. Its dangerous. We should maintain a healthy fear the same way a boat captain maintains a healthy fear of the violent seas.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a little fear it’s healthy! It’s how we choose to sometimes handle that fear that isn’t. Facing your fears and doing what you love despite anxiety is important

Understanding that simply riding bike significantly increases your chances of injury and/or death, is pretty anxiety inducing. Experience unfortunately only mitigates that so much. Ari Henning for example got rear ended some years ago and hes an excellent rider. @z9brigade

For the new riders: Dont ride with doofus' who egg you on to be faster. Ride how you want. If they are mad at you for going slower than them, those arent the people you wanna ride with. They can go fast in straight line, but not much else.

Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. I really want to get into riding, but my gf has a lot of fears and worries, understandably. Most people hear the word motorcycle and immediately think that you're going to plow into the side of a car at 150 or vice versa. This video really helped me to realize that i just need to stick with it, and it'll be worth it

Those 2 lanes and that beautiful countryside is why I ride, and I’m in no hurry to get anywhere or put myself in bad positions. I ride to forget about the stress, not induce more stress than life already dishes out. I think you can be vigilant, plan your ride, and avoid the sketchy without adding more anxiety. The saying is spot on. Ride your own ride, and more than anything, enjoy every minute of it, because nothing is guaranteed either on a bike or off of a bike, but stopping riding and staying inside to watch other people live life on TV is not what constitutes living an actual life yourself.

I find that even though I'm still nervous of riding after many years, the only way I'm able to push out of my comfort zone is on my motorbike. Once I'm out i feel amazing. I've been riding since 1988. I guess I've been doing it so long I approach it like getting into my car and driving. That's not to say I'm not super cautious, after all look how long I've ridden without having an incident. I guess what I'm saying is nervous anxiety will dissipate after a while and you'll find that zen and flow state and embrace every ride...all the while still being cautious.

I started riding this year... zero prior experience. I don't really have much anxiety and if I have my best working solution is "fuck it, I'm just gonna do it". With riding is totally different because whole process to prepare to ride is so long, my normal spontaneous "solution" doesn't work. You have to do this checklist of things, dress up, and every minute longer it takes my mind is "nah dude". I also decided to record my journey, because it gives me some goal and it's interesting to look at things from perspective of time. All my mistakes are making me cringe not gonna lie...

Had the "Vid "in May '22 and it really messed me up. It created anxiety and depression I never had prior, but helped push me to do things I've always wanted to. That July I decided to start, August I completed the MSF course and September purchased my 1st bike('18 Duke 390, love that bike). The anxiety intensified with the thought of riding and I needed to learn to overcome it. Instead on focusing to "ride", I practiced emergency braking, swerving, u-turns, leaning, etc. in an empty parking lot as much as I could. When I finally took to the back-roads and highways, I felt more confident and prepared. Do I still get the feeling? Absolutely. But, I realize: the fear of never doing it, is greater than the fear of doing it. I'd rather do it with a bit of fear, than to never do it without knowing the joy of it. Ride safe. Ride defensive. Ride your own ride. And remember: those who will criticize and invoke the negative, probably have never enjoyed the joy and positive of it. Two Down. Love you

Good content. I remember when I first started riding everyone told me how dangerous it is to ride a motorcycle and that I was going to die. The people that said that were all people that had never ridden. I did a few groups rides with friends, but I never cared for that because I didn’t ride as aggressively as most of the other riders. I think some degree of anxiety (with riding) is good because it keeps you aware of your limits. I think I had at least a touch of anxiety at the beginning of every ride for about the first three years I was riding. You’re spot on about anxiety going away with the more experience you gain. I’m at a point now that my only anxiety with riding is always worrying that I didn’t zip all my pockets and my tank bag. Lol You got a sub from me and I look forward to future content. I find it hard to believe that anyone who gets their licence and first bike doesn't go thru that phase of wtf was i thinking getting a bike, especially due to the learning curve being so steep. Theres so many factors to riding from the coordination of using hands and feet for different tasts, essentially the opposite to a car, to the wind noise and feeling the wind, to balancing and getting comfortable leaning when it feels completely unnatural and you have to fight the urge to atand the bike up when you need to lean more than it feels like the bike can lean, funny enough once ur off the bike and look at the tyres you suddenly realise that you can lean probably double what you did. Riding is such a visoral experience where we engage so many senses simultaneously and then theres other factors like road conditions, weather, cars, people etc. Non riders always put off new riders because they are terrified of them because they dont understand them and heard some horror story, just remember thats someone elses story and not yours!

If i were to buy a bike - would only go to the nearest parking lot, practice emergency braking until the rear wheel would be off the ground a tiny amount cause thats the fastest way to brake. Practice max leaning angle with slow exercises until i could scrape the pegs, do a bit of turtle racing to learn balance, clutch. And a bit of emergency swerve. It could take months really. But I wouldn't feel comfortable with not being a good rider from the very beginning of my road riding, also i would weekly refresh those drills for at least an hour so i dont get rusty. Its not possible to sufficiently learn from the critical situation on the road enough to be a better rider - because they are such rare events by defition. I have seen videos of unavoidable bike accidents due to no fault of the rider. If i were to crash, i could rest easy knowing i trained as hard as possible - i would know for without a doubt that i did all i possibly could. Even a crash would not cause me anxiety. Tell me what you think about this. Genuinely curious if a non biker like me has a chance to figure it out or not.

I want to say some positive stuff. I know people who have been riding for years and have never had an accident. I know people who have had falls, skids and been knocked off and who barely have a bruise. I have only personally known one person who was killed, by a car, and I know a lot of bikers. I have come off twice without injury. All the gear, all the time unless being too hot would affect your riding, then slow down. Yes there is risk but you are in control, not fortune, not statistics (some of which dont add up. Put out there to scare us?) ALWAYS wear a helmet at the very least and ALWAYS consider yourself invisible to other road users because you mostly are. Most of all enjoy yourself, as a biker, you are part of a special family. 😊👍

I can definitely relate to the family members thing. I want to get into riding pretty bad, and have been eyeing a pretty cool bike that was just released and is said to be great for beginners, but if i brought that home i feel like my mom and grandma would disown me lol. Theyve both worked in the medical field, so theyve only ever seen the horror stories of motorcycling. My grandad had a motorcylce when he was younger, but gave it up after one time he was ran off the road and ended up driving through someones yard, almost wrecking (he was actually fine by the end of it). Another worry i have is that i know almost nothing about the best way to ride one safely. Ive watched a few videos that cover pretty basic things like watching cars at all ends of an intersection when entering, stopping at the back corner of the car in front of you so that you cant get sandwiched between the one behind you not paying attention and the one in front of you, etc. I do a few of the things the video talks about already, but in my current vehicle rather than a bike. Idk, it feels like everything is against me trying to get into the scene, even though id really like to. Thank you for the video, this earned you a sub lol

I agree with your statement on learning your limits, because you can't drive at all without knowing how you feel safe driving. I wish I knew some people irl that had bikes because I've got about a million questions about it all lol, but I guess the biggest one is how do I even get started? Thank you for replying when you did. I hope I can get into the scene too, it seems like genuinely a lot of fun!

You got any advice for dirtbikes? Or just advice that applies to both? Soon to start my first job and am hoping to get a dirtbike (250cc) in 3 to 6 months.

I had a klx300 dualsport at one point, I’m hoping to get another and do some videos on it! Mostly just advice that applies to both but I’m definitely down for a dirtbike series!

Been struggling with anxiety about dropping my bike. Not even in motion, I’m short and I’ve tipped at stops a few times now as I’ve been learning. 😂 Moving hasn’t been scary for me. Trying to work up the courage to go out alone.

You’ll get there! I have faith in you. Just keep practicing. Even if you drop your bike a few times there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that💖 ride safe!

@Vixit same here, I've fallen off twice. It winds you a bit but doesn't really hurt if you're wearing gear. Always get back on and ride for another 10 minutes at least. Mostly though practise coming to a slow, gentle stop somewhere off road and do it over and over. Left leg down, right foot on the brake. Never grab the front brake. Grab the clutch and use the foot brake. Practise, practise, practise. Short girls can do it.💪😁

Well this is oddly good quality for me subbing to a channel at like 360 subs. Constructive criticism: frame rates were choppy at times, maybe a little extra wind noise. Voice audio sounds great tho

@@MotoXiety nice , i want a Grom , a dirt bike , or maybe something smaller … idk 🤷🏻‍♂️ something to teach my friends or anyone that would like to get into riding , something that I don’t have to worry too much about , and them crashing and getting hurt 😔 but when their competent enough …, they can get something besides a smaller cc bike that they’ll outgrow, and then they can come ride with me on some bigger 636cc or 948cc bikes that I own , I have 3 race replica bikes and a sport cruiser , but nobody to ride them with …I’m just using them for commuting back and forth to work whenever the weather permits, but im planning on getting them out on the tracks out here on the west coast … as soon as I can get a budget together and wrapped around my head … 🤙

Is your camera like 10 fps? I personally hate riding only on Sunny days. I ride in heavy rain, cloudy days too to be safer rider. In Taiwan, India nobody is afraid you see grandmas ride and the whole family on a motorcycle. Why is it that Europe, America where we have more organized rules more afraid?

I have to figure out the fps stuff on my GoPro it keeps resetting to default 30 fps even after I change it, I’ll get it worked out though! I’m not sure why it is but I hope to travel to those other countries at some-point and experience their riding culture!
