I got into metal at 17, that's when I recall Spotify entering my life. I enjoyed a lot of Iron Maiden and Metallica and knew many bands from playing guitar hero on ps2, but Spotify presented me what I listen the most today.

I heard Deep Purple- Made in Japan in 1972. My older cousins we’re playing the record. I was 7 years old. I liked it. Then in 1973, my aunt was playing Black Sabbath- Paranoid and it changed my life forever. Black Sabbath is my favorite band of all time. I started going to concerts in 1982 to present. I’ve seen hundreds of bands. And I own hundreds of metal albums. I have hundreds of concerts shirts. Seen concerts in Japan, Mexico, Canada, Germany, Czech Republic and many states in the USA. Been to lots of metal festivals too. I’m a metal head forever. I’m 58 years old now. I just got tickets for Cannibal Corpse in October 2023. 🤘

I am a European woman at 65. We didn't have a lot of money when I was a child, so I listened to whatever was on the radio, and that of course was pop music. Then I got a friend, he had two LP's, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. That kind of music resonated in my whole body and was so different from everything else (yes I know even Deep Purple, it was a small town). Now a days I need to go to at least one big festival a year and several small ones. It is so, like you said, being with my metal family. I will not be without it...

Cool video:) I got into metal when my friend mentioned Slipknot. I had no idea who that was, so I gave a listen and became obsessed. I then checked out others like System of a Down, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Rob Zombie, Metallica and Iron Maiden. I've never been to a metal festival, but I wish to go someday. But overall, metal really changed me 😅

It was actually a version of Phantom Of The Opera on an Andrew Lloyd Webber collection which had some electric guitar in it, and those dark heavy synths... that's what started it all for me. I think I was 7.

My son is eleven and got into metal after he saw Friday the 13th 6 and heard an Alice cooper song, he became obsessed with Alice and bought his first record, and saw his first concert, since then he has become increasingly more into metal and rock music as a whole, then formed his own band with his friend.

got into metal at 16, a year after my mom died from cancer. I'd already heard and seen Enter Sandman when it premiered, when I was like 8 (I'm 40 now), and Napalm Death on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack in like 7th grade, but what really got me into metal was Nü-Metal bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit. Even to this day, as much death metal and thrash as I listen to, as many patches on my vest as I have, my favorite band remains Deftones. Metal's metal, in my opinion. I try not to discriminate.

i fell in love with metal exactly a month ago, and i think it was the best decision ive ever done in my entire life. ever since i can remember i listened to kpop and ive been a hardcore kpop fan for nearly 6 years, but as i got older, i started seeing how toxic was the community i grew up with (unnatural beauty standards, skinny girls, perfect skin etc.). kpop in general gave me huge eating disorders and nothing more (i mean music is great but people and whole vibe are not it). metal somehow saved me from digging deeper into the awesome world of ed, skinny girls and just from being unsatisfied all the time. the first band ive heard was black sabbath, but i thought that i want more of it. day later i stumbled across iron maiden records and the song that told me that this is the end of my music journey was invaders. i loved everything about it. now im 17 and i feel like my whole music escapade ended in a perfect place.

I'm 53. I kind of start with the first band that perked my ears up. You never forget when you first hear something that changes your pallet. It was Aerosmith Toys in the attic and Alice Cooper Welcome to my Nightmare. Then,my crazy Aunt who traveled all over had some Stooges on an 8track. Grew up with radio only. My changes were at 5. At around 14 i was all over punk sounds DK,Fear Bad Brains,Sex Pistols ect. Then I hear a record that was a beacon of light. Master of Puppets. It was religious. Then i see them wearing the same tshirts that I wore...Misfits. i had 3 of these shirts one with pushead art It brought these 2 communities together. Suddenly i had thousands of friends instantly because of Cliff Burton rocking the Crimson Ghost logo. I share this bcuz it's one of those " never forget " moments.

I am here for your personality, perspectives, and content quality. Metal is not my genre truth be told. I love the culture and the people but I am an outsider through and through. I struggle to find metal that speaks to me. The search is ongoing. Creators like yourself inspire me. Someday as a hobby I want to make videos about the music that fills my life with meaning. It would be a great way to learn more about my favorite bands while spreading word of them and building skills that are useful in other areas of life. Most importantly, it would be a way to find my people.

Young metalhead here. I grew up in Latin America and all I could l listen to was urban music. A friend of my mom who lived in the US at the time came to visit and he brought her a bunch of music burned in CDs. She used to have a work phone, a Sony Ericson, and there was this game called Johnny Crash Does Texas and I used to play it a lot. One day I accidentally exited the game and I got curious as I had a knack for technology since I have a memory. I started to go around the phone and looking at what it had and I found a folder that said “Music”. I plugged the phone’s headphones and clicked in the folder. There was one sole record in there: Hybrid Theory. I remember listening to it and being blown away. It was a dude rapping on top of heavy instrumentation. There was singing and even screaming and I was like huh… this sounds weirdly familiar. I listened to that for ages until I got a copy of Need For Speed Most Wanted and I remember listening to Nine Thou by Styles of Beyond. I thought it was cool as fuck and it sounded like LP. However, I remember one day I was roaming around with my car and doing illegal activities in Rockport when out of nowhere I just hear this very intricate guitar playing. It was a guitar intro, then all I hear is “Oh!” and chaos ensued. The band just came in and it was like a kick on the chest. Then you hear the singing and I was like “oh cool!” But then, the band came again and the vocalist just screamed so fucking loud I was like holy shit this is sick! On top of that I was driving this stupid car super fast and all I remember was having a rush of adrenaline going through me. The song was Hand of Blood by Bullet for My Valentine. It was the first heavy heavy song I’d ever listened to that resembles what we think of metal, more than LP. Ever since I became obsessed with BFMV and they’re still one of my all time favorite bands. From then on, it was a rabbithole of KZfaq in early 2010 where I found bands like Slipknot, KsE, Dream Theater, and Facebook has this game called Guitar Flash which is a Wish version of guitar hero and I found many bands through that game. I also became a fan of Disturbed and Static X because of NFS Most Wanted and I just went deeper and deeper. This must have happened between the ages of 7 or 8-10 and I’m 23 now. Over my adolescence I learned my dad was a big Maiden fan, as well as the classics and that introduced me to those bands. And so the story continues to this day, where by the week I just find more and more music to listen to. I’m a normal kid, and I had the chance to come study/live in the US and it gave me the chance to go see the bands I loved in person. It felt surreal to do that and to this day is something I will forever be grateful for. I don’t dress like a metalhead, even though I have band shirts everywhere, and all my friends are regular people who listen to Taylor Swift and other shit which has allowed me to be open about music. However, metal has always and will always be where home is. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Can relate to a lot of this. Hellfest was my first venture into the European festival circuit (I'm British, Download doesn't count) and it blew my mind. I dread to think of how much money I've spent going to Hellfest, Wacken, Graspop and Nova Rock since then, but every penny was worth it. Except for Wacken 2017 where I got so drunk on mead that I blacked out, was hungover for three days and didn't remember any of the festival except for the journey there and back.

I had 3 older sisters so I inevitably went through the 80's hair metal movement. I got to go with 2 sisters to a Bulletboys, Winger, Cinderella show at my first concert in 1989. (Met Winger with Reb Beach saying to me "What's up little dude!?") A few years later a sister again took me to see Metallica on their Sandman Tour. (GNR was supposed to open, but Axl had had his hissy fit so I got to see Metal Church open.) When my sister from college gave me her 'Dirt' album on cassette my life was transformed upon hearing the real nitty gritty about death, addiction, suicide. Fast forward a few years and I found my godsend, Led Zeppelin. (Really not sure if I'm a bonified metalhead because I like nearly everything. Perhaps I'm a hybrid that enjoys Ernest Tubb, Dvorak, and The Stranglers.) When I read an online review of Slayer's already 15 year old masterpiece 'Reign In Blood' in which the author described the just over 30 minute brutal musical assault of 'face-melting speed' I HAD to get it. A month later I had ALL of their albums asking myself how in the hell I missed out on 80's/90's Slayer.

Pantera did it for me. I never could do all the overseas festivals, but ozzfest and lollapalooza and some x games. Everybody goes on a ride like this. Best part of metal for me was the fans and concerts. If you bump into the right people you got friends to see at all kinds of shows, large (expensive) and small (super cheap).

For me I grew up on classic rock my dad would listen to. Then I listened to Nu Metal bands, especially Slipknot, on the radio. Specifically Rock 105.3 in San Diego, CA. Eventually I learned of a weekly late night radio show on 105.3 called “Another State of Mind.” First song I heard on that program was Dying Fetus’ “Schematics”, the first track off of their 2003 album “Stop at Nothing.” My life was changed forever that night in the mid 2000s. Not much later I discovered Kataklysm, Napalm Death, Death, Vader, Vomitory and so much more. I was adding all of the Norwegian black metal bands to my iPod shuffle when I got my first car with my twin brother. Carcass, Gorgoroth, Mayhem, Dying Fetus and others were in heavy rotation. Got into slam, DSBM, and deathgrind in college. Still love it all to this day and I’m in my 30s. Black metal prolly my favorite but it’s all good. Glad to have all y’all in metal brotherhood.

I like this video, just like most 'metalheads', I've walked a similar path. Also tried to play guitar, never got the patience for it Tried to mix bands (tech), didn't work out either (wasn't allowed for the education at "colleges") Then I put all of my focus on organizing metalgigs... Started out small, had some success and expanded over the years... After 7 years, I was most of the time unemployed and had a few bad years (debts from shows with low ticketsales and personal stuff) and had to quite (for a while) to cover my debts and tried other things... During those 7 years I've booked Taake, Marduk (2x), Vader, Hirax, Valkyrja, Bonded By Blood, The Monolith DeathCult, Immolation, Noctem, Nuclear, Evil Invaders, Crescent, and a couple hundreds other bands :) Now, after 9 years of silence, I've come back from the shadows and organized my first festival again after such a long time, and it was a pretty success, with over 1.000 visitors, with the following line-up: Destruction, Exciter, Holy Moses, Artillery, Angelus Apatrida, Nervosa, Gama Bomb, Ambush, Bütcher, ... All these bands for only 35 euro presale... Next year (May 2024), I've expanded to 2 days :) With already 5 names announced! SODOM, TANKARD, SUICIDAL ANGELS, SCHIZOPHRENIA, COBRACIDE + 15 more bands TBA ! + 3 foodtrucks + metal market + VIP Lounge tent + mead stand + ... Limited capacity of 1.500 visitors. Exceptional location, as this venue is only less than one hundred meters from the beach, just accross the street :) For these 2 full days of the tsunami of thrash/speed metal will be only 85 euro presale! Come over next year to ' Huginns Awakening Fest VIII ' ! It will be amazing! :) facebook.com/events/10071600839532866

November, 1989 I was from a microscopic southern BC town. No Cable, No Rock radio. I was 11 years old, in a city hospital waiting for surgery because I ripped my kidney in half after falling out of a tree onto a fence. Anyways, I was blasting a Bonjovi tape on my newly acquired ghetto when the teenager across the room offered up a tape of a different option. He had a screwdriver sticking out of his head and was waiting for surgery to take it out. This tape was Master of Puppets...🤯...everything changed at this moment and I've been Metal ever since. 🤘, there are few moments in life that there are seismic shifts that are forever, but Metal is one of them.

I got into metal through my parents of all people. They're both ex bikers who grew up with the first wave of metal bands like Black Sabbath. I listened to their albums and got access to the internet when this area finally got wire out here. When that happened I really got into metal hard. My first concert was Alice Cooper and my first "Real Metal" concert was Rob Zombie. I personally consider Cooper to be metal but I also understand why you'd consider him Hard Rock. Now I've been going to random metal shows that piqued my interest in my area for about 10 years. I've never been to a metal festival because the local ones usually have bands I'm not interested in.

I didn't have metalhead parents (or at the very least parents that like any form of rock), so I had to discover metal on my own in my teen years. I grew up listening to old school rap (and I guess some new rap too) and whatever shit was playing on the local radio, but when I was around 13 or 14 I wanted something angrier and more aggressive because I was getting tired of the music I was listening to, so that led me to discovering Metallica and Pantera through Doom (and also discovering my love for Doom as well) while I just discovered Slipknot, Korn, Iron Maiden, Dio/Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Mercyful Fate/King Diamond, etc. on my own (and I'm still discovering new bands (both in the rock (mainly classic) genre and metal genre) to this day

I'm 43 and was hooked from the first time I saw Headbanger's Ball at a very young age. Like five or six years old or something stupid like that. Of course, that largely meant hair bands, but it wasn't too long before a friend's older brother played Anthrax and Suicidal Tendencies for me. That led to Obituary, Carcass, etc. My main point in commenting here though is that in spite of being a little older, and in the metal scene longer, while watching this video I opened four or five additional browser tabs of bands and other stuff you talked about I want to look into. Thank you, I appreciate it! It actually bothers me that I only discovered Vader a few years ago and now they are one of my favorite bands. Somehow I just missed them growing up. I wonder what else flew under my radar . . . perhaps I'm about to find out!

For a while, I was merely a casual metal listener somewhat, I knew Enter Sandman by Metallica, Iron Man by Black Sabbath, Hail To The King, and Scream Avenged Sevenfold, In The End and Numb by Linkin Park, Bring Me To Life by Evenesence, L'enfant Sauvage by Gojira and Highway To Hell and Thunderstruck by AC/DC but eventually I entered an emo phase where I discovered a lot more Metalcore bands besides just A7X as well as the deathcore band Suicide Silence. Through them, I got interested in bands that I had heard of but never actually checked out like Marilyn Manson and Slipknot, I had also heard of black metal for the first time and decided to look into that, found the song Dimmu Borgir by Dimmu Borgir, and was hooked, and the rest is history

Not necessarily the best story but it all started when I heard my aunt listsning to blink 182 at age 6 and then we both listened to blink 182 then I listened to a band named skillet when I turned 8 then my uncle listened to queen and acdc when I had turned 10 that's when my interest sprung up when I first heard Iron Maiden and then Judas Priest farther down I needed something louder that's when I got into death metal then when I turned 13 that's when I started listening to more and more bands leading me to black metal and then opening up to punk music as well now I am 14 in high school and a lot of my friends don't listen to metal mostly rap but I have become friends with some people that I guess you could say are punks

My metal journey is much more boring. My mom liked Nightwish, and my older brother liked Children of Bodom. So metal was one of the first genres I started liking as a kid

Hey, if you have the time, just listen to my story... I was born in April of 92. I was the quite child, ever on conflict. My mother raised me on a dait of "leftist" songs, but also somthing like "tabaluga" (if you know, you know). My father was the hard working guy. He sometimes let some "pop" out. It was all satire... At the age of 12 I become the oner of a "Discman" whit more music from my parents, most of it was "folk-rock". After this time maybe 2 years max, I discovered Manowar for me... and now I love to listen to sabaton, guardian and hbo, so it was a wild ride.... Btw if it has someone curios, I'm a bavaryan german... rock on, maybe we see us in a mosh together ^^❤

I’m not a super hot chick with 38-HH boobs trying to get into some fan club where you can’t wait for me to be the face of your videos. But I am a 46 yro metal drummer that you’ve probably rolled your eyes as at after hearing that. And has been entertained by your videos. I’m a drummer and even if yo don’t care to know that I have samples. My question to you is where did you learn your editing skills, for I see that that’s the hook. You can’t just have a dialogue and nothing. So how did you come about to doing that. I’m not comparison I’m just a dude that has talent on drums and would like to learn 🤷🏼‍♂️

@Linkacide To me, breast size never mattered, it's who you are bc someone with no size really, if she's cool and who she is is a good person then that's really hot 💯 I'm a Guitarist, I'm decent at it but I'm getting better and I got drumsticks with one drum lol if you want to start a band together It's up to you though 💜🎸😊

That's really impressive, the whole video, and from what I can hear around 12:40 you all sound pretty good. I've literally just started to get into metal at the young age of 52. My gateway drugs were/are Jinjer and Infected Rain. Now I'm beginning to love Meshuggah. I find it weirdly cathartic which is great for mild depression.

I am 37 now and yeah,Slipknot and Marilyn Manson were also my jumping board to a heavies music when I was a teen, before that as a kid I loved Metallica and G'n'r..I knew for alot of death metal bands 'cause of my older relatives so I already knew about Cannibal corpse and even Carcass so it was pretty easy to enter death metal world and in a same time I started with COF and discovered black metal also..I love most of a metal, but I've stayed loyal to death and black.
