I thought I wanted to teach the babies too because I’ve been a nanny for eight years and LOVE my toddlers and little ones, but the further into my program I get, the more I know I’m supposed to teach upper el. Funny how you just get a gut feeling about where you’re supposed to be at some point!

Great feedback Shelly! I truly appreciate your genuine sincerity. Can you please make a classroom behavior management system/tips video? I’m struggling with an extremely chatty class and with transitioning to other subjects quickly. We’re losing teaching time and it’s so frustrating...

It’s really neat to see what the process is like in different states. I will graduate in May with an Elementary Education degree and where I live we are required to have 200 observation hours before student teaching and for student teaching we are required to do 7 weeks in a primary grade (K-3) and 7 weeks in a intermediate grade (4-5). Love this video! ❤️

Subbing and student teaching are the best ways to get a teaching job. I think all of California uses EdJoin. We use it here in Orange County.

I am also in Ca and went through a program this last year. I’ll list the requirements I had to fulfill in case it helps anyone! I went through the online program CalStateTEACH. I had to take the CBEST and CSET to get into the program. You could apply without having passed the CSET. But the first term was split into two to allow you time to study and pass the test. I currently work at a private school as an assistant teacher. I was fortunate enough to be able to fulfill the majority of my student teaching hours during work time. Each term required a specific amount of hours. Other in the program were placed into schools. You needed to work with upper and lower elem throughout the program. I worked with upper at my school and was placed in lower when I student taught in public school. I had to fulfill a specific amount of public school hours along the way. I had 6 observations a term. 3 terms total. You need to prepare for and “take” the CalTPA cycle 1&2. They are basically lessons you plan and annotate with a buttload of writing. When you finish the program you take the RICA. You must also have a current CPR certification and fulfill the US Constitution requirement. Usually a history class you took in college counts. But that’s basically it.

You have wonderful advice for people who are thinking about entering the teaching profession. It is quite crazy how many things teacher in California must do to obtain certification. Best of luck to you this week. How is sixth grade going?

CA has some of the strictest requirements to become a teacher....so much so that basically you can go to any state and teach because we have reciprocity. I went to Nevada for a few years and got my license super easy. I only had to take a test on history to clear it and they gave me like 2 years to do it.

Unfortunately I think a lot of us in the states have no clue on how the system works in the UK but most likely you can look into colleges near you and either ask them what their program is like, or it might be better to search online because itll be based on your area :)
