Thanks to channels like this I’ve changed my mindset from being 100% against annual fee credit cards to a more hybrid approach and getting the CSR. First redemption wasn’t anything crazy but getting a rental car for a week for a little over a SUB for a CFF or CFU was pretty sweet and the memories we’ll have from the trip what were really chasing at this point. Oh and Southwest is our flight if choice too! We fly out of New Orleans, MSY, and for the price you can’t beat it

That's so great to hear man. I'm really happy to hear that you're able to put your cards to work and make memories you may not have been able to before. That's one of the biggest reasons I'm in the credit card game personally! And I'm glad to hear you like SW too haha. They're not as appreciated as others I feel like, but you really can't beat the price of them out of Austin either.

You're definitely my favorite KZfaqr in regard to credit cards because you emphasize the importance of what works NATURALLY. It's easy to get caught up in FOMO 🤣. Thanks for continuing to put out awesome content and it's great to see your channel growing!!

Great video Spencer! It's so awesome that you're able to take these trips for very little to no cost by using points! I think it's great that you're able to leverage points for your domestic travel which is more relatable since a lot us aren't traveling internationally all the time. Having said that, I'm looking forward to your video on your international redememption to see how that went!
@SpencerJohnsonOfficial9 ай бұрын
Thanks so much man! I just like to be as transparent as possible with my personal redemptions and I think they're pretty relatable to most people so I hope everyone enjoys seeing them. The international redemption is a fun one too though, so I'm excited to share that with y'all! Thanks for the support as always man 👊🏼

Love this! Absolutely agree, CPP is not the end all be all! I actually just did redemption using my Bilt points for the first time transferring them to United to go from Birmingham to Frankfurt. It was just 6k points and $40 in fees. I just calculated the CPP and it ends up being 3.2 CPP but I didn't even think about that before I booked it since I just wanted to go there for as cheap as possible to make my way to Germany for the Christmas markets. Since it is around Christmas time, the points price was much cheaper than the cash price so I went for it. I am paying for most of my trip with cash though since I am not looking for luxury and doing 30k a night for a nice hotel isn't worth it to me on this trip no matter the CPP!

I'm really happy to hear you resonated with this! That redemption you got is super awesome, but I love the way you thought about it. The goal was to get there for as close to free as possible, and you just happened to get really good value for your points which is icing on the cake. Of course, a lot of cash expenses are going to come up, but as long as you can subsidize your travel cost with points, I think that's great! You don't always have to use points for everything (like your hotel for example), but bringing that overall cost down for the flights alone is huge!

Love flying Southwest! I feel the same way, it may not be super outsized value but it gets me to the places I want to be without me paying cash. Loved watching this!

That's great to hear man! Southwest has still never done me wrong (knock on wood) so I'll continue flying with them as long as it makes sense!! Thanks for watching as always! 👊🏼

Love how you see credit card points! I agree with you. It makes travel affordable and attainable.
@SpencerJohnsonOfficial9 ай бұрын
I'm really happy to hear that! The key to what you said is the attainability. Credit card points can genuinely help you to make trips you never would have taken if you had to pay in cash, and whether that's to the Maldives or just a few states over, as long as they help you get there, I don't care what value you got from 'em necessarily!

If you have a Costco membership you can buy a Southwest gift card for $450 valued for $500.

Good to know! That could be a good move if you're wanting to book flights in cash.

Completely agree with you that although Southwest is never going to give you the highest redemption, it's still absolutely worth it to use an earn & burn strategy with your points and utilize them for trips that you would have otherwise needed to pay cash for. Haha you picked a good Broncos game to go to, considering how they've played so far this year 😂Great video as always Spencer!
@SpencerJohnsonOfficial9 ай бұрын
We're definitely on the same page as it comes to point redemptions... although those high CPP redemptions are awesome, I'd rather use my points to make memories now rather than waiting for some future trip that may never end up happening. It's all about how you plan it! And yeah haha that Broncos game was a great one to go to for sure 🤣 Thanks for being here as always Matt!

Spencer i am hearing some distortion on your mic. If you lower the gain trim on the mic and/or the mic preamp, and raise the volume after that, it should get rid of it.

Awesome video, as always! Quick question: Wouldn't Daniel's CPP be calculated a little differently since he stayed 3 nights vs. your 2 nights? ($275.31 / ((2/3) x 12,500)) x 100 = 3.3 CPP? Or did you already factor in the ratio difference with his 3 nights?

SW is pretty underappreciated in my opinion! I definitely see myself adding their cards in the future, but won't do it until I'm ready to get the companion pass. I'll talk more about that in Sunday's video too actually.

Is it too late for me to be first? 👀….Nahhh! I’m always first! I’m with you on the cent per point value. I redeemed some of my points for 1c/pt because I didn’t want to spend any money on my next trip. It was under 30k points too, so, not too many points…..oops, commented too early. Still watching though. I enjoyed all of the b roll in this video. That Hyatt House room looked pretty sweet though! If you were able to see into the future, you and Daniel could’ve just roomed together in his …I’m going to call it an apartment 😂. At least you did get a free night though. Sometimes we’ll need to pay cash, like I did for our creator’s meetup trip, and other times there’s points to be used. Excellent video Spencer!
@SpencerJohnsonOfficial9 ай бұрын
Hahaha I could never convince you that you weren't first 😉 It sounds like we have the same outlook on points though and I think more people should look at them that way too. It's amazing when you can get a high cpp value, but sometimes it's more about paying as little cash as possible and that's where points come in clutch. That Hyatt house was definitely big enough for 2 people lol. I wish they told one of us about the upgrade sooner! 🤣 Thanks for watching CJ!

Thank you James! There are definitely higher cpp ways to use your points, but these redemptions fit my travel habits so well that I never worry about the cpp value I get (as long as it's above my base as I mentioned). Also, nice 3rd place finish here! 🥉

Its videos like these that make me want to switch my spend from amex to chase. Amex trying to lure me with another platinum by offering 100k MR after 6$ spend (upgrade offer) but i qualify for a sapphire bonus finally and was looking at the reserve. Problem being chase 5/24 till mid march smh 😅
@SpencerJohnsonOfficial9 ай бұрын
Haha I love my Chase points for sure! I need some more of them rn tbh. It sounds like you have about 4-5 months till you can get a Sapphire card, so maybe the upgrade offer in the meantime is worth it! That's only because it won't impact your 5/24 count though. Could be something to consider, but may just be best to hold off.
@godzilla71479 ай бұрын
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial it feels soo far but almost there. I can farm for the remainder of the time. I would want to take the offer but having two platinums makes it a little difficult to justify for me atm as i would kinda need to force spend in order to justify the cost and that defeats the purpose. So i would most likely skip for now and just wait for my sapphire 😅
@SpencerJohnsonOfficial9 ай бұрын
That's fair enough! I'm glad you recognize that! I would be tempted to take the upgrade just for the offer (as long as that spend is manageable) and then downgrade immediately in year 2 so you don't have to worry about using the credits on 2 platinum, but that could be too much effort and you wanna stay away from pop-up jail too. Just thinking out loud!@@godzilla7147
