Hi Kim, I was just about to pause and agree with your comment regarding liking the real and gritty content creators when you asked for comments...lol I do too, those are the ones I look for! I really dislike the "perfect settings" videos.

Hehe, excellent timing. I'm so glad I'm not alone. I've trained the KZfaq algorithm to show me quite a lot of smaller channels now and the content is just so much better. It really makes you feel like there's a community out there and that you're not alone. 💚😊

I paused the video to read the comments.. I like to see those too. But somehow I am afraid of showing my own mess lol... I work in a corner of my kitchen. I make Jesmonite products (which is similar to concrete) and is messy!! The whole process is messy...

@powerfulstateofmind Search for tiny art studio tours here on KZfaq for some inspiration. There are many artists and makers working from tables, tiiiny rooms and corners in the kitchen. It might help you feel less alone with your set up? Some of the best creators I follow here work from their kitchen tables because they don't have a designated work space. 😊💚

100 % agree with you in the craving of going back to basics and watch other people's beginnings and how resourceful they are. I find it very inspiring and also gives me joy to see how many people are taking risks and putting their energy into creating things they love and creating many small business of handmade arts and crafts. I'm one of them, a shy one for now😂. Love from Italy ❤

I totally agree with the gritty content comment. I love the rustic, messy vlogs rather than the polished ones (although they do have their charm also). I find the newbies are the most honest vlogs and I've been known to lose interest when the people I've watched for years become too polished. A great vid from yourself, thanks for sharing your thoughts x

Just pausing the video here to say, you're right about craving the old 'gritty' internet. I look for that sort of content on KZfaq, and used to when I was on Instagram, but it's all so, so, so polished and perfect now. The rustic feels like curated rustic, if that makes sense? And that's one of the things that's been putting me off putting myself and my work setup on Instagram. I live in a tiny cabin so my work space is miniscule - split between a little bench in the back of my Kangoo van, and deck chair at a wooden tray balanced on my window seat... quirky or totally unprofessional? It's in the eye of the beholder 😂
@KimBliss
@KimBliss 3 ай бұрын
You see I'm immediately interested to know more about that! It's not unprofessional at all. We're artists, creators, makers etc and our work spaces can be almost anything as long as it works for us. 💚

Thank you for this video, love your coffee chats. Im very new and recently launched but actively struggling over how to drive traffic to my shop given I'm both a private person and decided early on that managing an account in high stress platforms like instagram and tiktok is not for me. I do also understand there is a some give and take, because I still need to drive traffic if I want people to even see my crafts. so in the end, I did up making just one faceless studio vlog. I feel sheepish about it because I don't have a dedicated craft space and not to mention I'm not good at filming stable shots. 🙃

In terms of making gritty You Tube videos, I have made two sew-a-long videos of free patterns that I liked and wanted to share but the hard part of making my next video is not worrying too hard if it looks good enough or how I should make it so that I reach a lot of people. I think I have what I need to make another video but first, I need to stop procrastinating.

Another very interesting video which was great to watch 😊 thank you for uploading. I has questions about your video making, as these are very similar to the sort of thing I would like to make (yes, I will be signing up for the patreon). These feel very smooth and "flowey", like it's a continuous conversation but there is a cut after each point. Do you cut and edit loads out with many missed takes etc, or do you just trim some space between bulletpoints?
@KimBliss
@KimBliss 3 ай бұрын
Glad you liked it. 😁 I say "um" a lot in-between sentences, while I'm thinking. It's a bad habit I just can't seem to break and it drives me crazy so i cut them out. Also whenever I have to stop and read my notes, think about the next part, wait for the dog to stop barking etc etc. It's why some of my videos have a lot of cuts and others have fewer. If I'm tired when filming then there will be a lot of cuts to remove the mistakes and swearing. That's all really but I try not to add too many otherwise it can interupt the flow. Hope that helps!
@DrunkenDwarfIron
@DrunkenDwarfIron 3 ай бұрын
@@KimBliss thanks for explaining :) I guess what I was wondering is whether you scripted these, which would require cuts between fluffed lines etc. But it didn't feel scripted, it felt naturally conversational. Having notes and points you wanted to talk about sounds perfect, but if videos like this had to actually be scripted rather than just relying on you being comfortable being chatty, well, that sounds like entirely too much work for an already full plate.
@KimBliss
@KimBliss 3 ай бұрын
I have tried reading from a script and it instantly made me hate making videos so I scrapped it very early on. I just need bullet points now to keep me on track and give the video structure. But some people do work better with scripts so I guess it's just testing things out to find the perfect combination for you at the end of the day. 😊

So much I love in this. Simply because I am at this moment in your vodcast, totally agree about loving the sites that are new, not improved and real. Yeah! And at least KZfaq has decided I like these as it flings me quite a few. Again, yeah! PS. Love when you go off on your moments. Yes, please keep these and don't shorten. PPS. Do you know anyway to take written content and make it into a vlog? I went to film school yet hate videoing. Go figure. It's a thing, but I would like to have vlogs. But prefer to write. Trying to figure out how to morph my writings into vlogs. So not necessarily your parameter, but hey ho, thought I'd ask. (Insert wincing smiley face here). PPPS. Didn't know Shopify offers option to sell, effectively, on other platforms. That is seriously cool. (And not on Wordpress.) PPPPS? Not seeing your items still as part of your below the video option. Must be a French thing? (As opposed to something I have done ;-) ) C'est la vie. P*m2 Loved this style of video. Super fun.
@KimBliss
@KimBliss 3 ай бұрын
Thank you and I think I loved your comment as much as you enjoyed the video! 😄 With regards to the written vlog.. would you be very against the idea of a voice over? Or perhaps a text to speech tool could help? Listenable or "eyes optional" (KZfaq's words not mine) is definitely a thing so you wouldn't necessarily need a lot in a video. Perhaps just what's being read in slide form or something like that? I'm just thinking at you now, but what you want to do is definitely possible!

I want to connect with REAL PEOPLE not brands and companies. I want to see the coffee stains on their table, because those stains tell a story and people create stories. I want to see people discovering, exploring, experimenting art. For instance, I look at you in the video but behind you I see your life, I imagine you watering your plants, I imagine you working at your desk or using the little objects on that shelf, I don't know... it's like a glimpse of your life, a glimpse into the story of your life which makes me feel more connected, attached to you. I like your chatty videos too. I confess that as a Southern USA resident, I really enjoy your accent as well as your insight.

I’m petrified of crickets. Pls tell me know your earnings now compare to the money you had when you were employed. Can you make a podcast on this pls? I know you had a time on etsy when sales were flying in overnight but that ship has sailed. I haven’t started yet, but I am trying to conjure up some courage to leave my corporate 9-5 which i hate with passion. Pay check is keeping me hooked. I need a pep talk 😅😭😭🥹🙏🏻

I'm currently earning more than I did in my previous employed job. But it has taken me time to reach that goal because I had to essentially start again after Etsy crashed my shop back in 2016/17. I've done a separate video about that if you'd like to know more. Maybe don't give up your job but lower your hours so you can work on your business and keep money coming in at the same time?

@@KimBliss thank you so much for taking the time to reply, Kim! You are a gorgeous human being! Glad to know you are doing better now self-employed than when you were employed and that’s really encouraging for me. And sorry to hear about the set back, i remember you talking about it in your videos. Thanks for the advice too, a few of my friends said the same thing: keep the job and see if jewellery making becomes big enough for me to quit at a later stage. Pls can you link here a video in which you break down your day and everything you do, because i know you do A LOT! Thanks so much again! X

I don't think I've really done a video on that, but I'd happily make one! OK, that's definitely happening. 😁
