How I broke an Abarth 595 Esseesse at an Abarth Stunt Day...

I was invited to hone my handbrake turn technique by Abarth and a stunt driving day. It is safe to say it didn't end well for the 595 Esseesse. Just exactly how did I break it and how did I get on in the stunt driving competition ?

That looked like a lot of fun. Now that JCW is off elsewhere my one regret is that I didn't get the chance to take it somewhere like that and I could really have found out it's true potential apart from the odd spurt on the Kings highway. I liked the quilted leather in the second car. That is a car I have never considered but did notice when I was in my hot hatch phase.

Hi Sir Pete this video was great to watch! It’s always cool to see ya have a blast and bring out your racer boy side lol. I really liked the color combo of the blue and red one. I don’t think I’ll ever own one of these as the 124 abarth spider is more what I would want.

Tried the 180BHP version of these on a Motability test drive some years ago (the 145 was not available to test drive). I loved it so much, but the suspension was too hard for my buggered back. Regret it now.

Looks like an absolute blast!! To be fair these cars were not designed for that kind of punishment so you just pushed it beyond its capabilities and it didn't like it!!

Not that I would do this (often) with my own car, but I'm curious if this can work with an electric hand brake like my '23 JCW Clubman will have.

Sadly not. You need a traditional handbrake 👍

Hi Ped You have shown that Autosolo is indeed a fun branch of motor sport, but beware to have a contingency fund for tyres and drive shafts. Tried this in my Morgan Plus 8, not the ideal car, very hard on tyres and very bruised rib cage for the driver.😥😥

@9.37... The button on the handbrake is to stop that awful ratcheting noise... Police Driving Instructors were permitted to slap students who failed to use the button... and rightly so!

I really Hate abusing cars like that.... Flat out in a straight line Yes.... But I love Cars and don`t like to break them..... Having said that I did do 2 complete laps of a roundabout Fully sideways in my 3.5 SD1 Vitesse....... But it was wet so less potential for damage to the diff etc.... :-))

was it official abarth "driving school" or just abarth fan club? And was the essesse new or badly used? Not good promo for abarth if it broke down after this light, short use

As an owner i love my 595 and while i agree its fun to see what these amazing little cars can do BUT i`d doubt you`d abuse your own car like that? i would also not be too happy in the thought that Abarth UK will likely be selling these "almost new cars" abused to breaking point from Abarth UK dealers?

Same could be said for Chris Harris power sliding a car round a track. At the end of the day Abarth invited us to learn a new set of skills and demonstrate how good the 595 is at a genuine firm of motorsport in Autotesting 👍

Fiat is known for poor engines that blow head gaskets all the time, so you didn't break anything the car broke itself.

Nah, you didn't break it the car just couldn't keep up with the quality of the driver.....and I would stick with that! I can only imagine the warranty claims Abarth may get from their customers saying "well you did it on Petrol Ped so thought it was within the limits of my warranty".
