You needed to put “Z” flashing between the siding. Water will get inside the seam. You can’t rely on caulking. The window flashing (the sticky kind) needs to be done from the bottom to top so there is always an overlap on your seams. You put your sides on first, then the top then the bottom. Any water that comes down the top will rook under that flashing. Your window frames should have had a bigger gap between the framing so when the earth moves, it won’t break the glass. I can’t tell but your floor joists should have been pressure treated since they are touching those concrete blocks. If they get wet they will rot out.

I was impressed that your wife, neighbor & son all helped. Even your dogs made an appearance. I now have an appreciation for all that goes into building even a small space. Everything you did was driven by quality and excellence. My dream is to live in a tree house designed by Pete Nelson.

Framing 10/10! But because you asked - you have to flash window/door frames on all 4 sides usually 3" on the sheathing and 3" onto the frame. Then install the windows with calking all around, but over hang the frame so it clears your siding. Then install counter flashing and then your finish siding. Water is going to come off the window and get between your siding.

Wow! Gym is simply a title… just like a “Tiny home” for his Gym… Now repurposing is easy… just like those who turn a garage into a den or a bedroom into an office… Ultimately… the time spent was quality learning, saving money doing it himself, time with wifey, and coming together as a community… Bravo young man way to go! The experience gained is priceless!❤❤❤❤

If you get any heat about not having staggered joints on the subfloor, those people are not competent builders. Ignore them. Also, what a great neighbour! One thing I noticed is next time, don't put sealant under your windows, and always shim them up a 1/4" to 1/2". If any moisture gets by your flashing, it will have nowhere to go and will just rot in the window jamb area.

I'm fairly confused by a home structure set up on $10 blocks plopped directly onto unprepped soil, that's surrounded by a deck that has concrete post footers.
@JB2X-Z
@JB2X-Z Ай бұрын
To be fair, this isn't exactly a structure as big or nearly as heavy as a house would be. If the soil wasn't touched at the top layer when their home was being built originally, the soil below will be packed well enough to be able to support a building this size. The framework they set up for it should hold for as long as they own the place, if not longer. However, if the soil was moved around a lot while their original home was being built, they're going to be in for a bad time in the long term.

@@metal_mo Correct - but he did forms for the deck. If you're going to dig and pour concrete forms for a tiny deck, why not do it for your structure?

@@JB2X-Z Yup, no need for crazy footings for a structure that small. Poured footings are overkill.

Footings would have helped it not become a really big kite in 60-70mph winds which are not uncommon in thunderstorms.

Love the idea, my only concern is the orientation of the multitrack, not a ton of room for the barbell

My thoughts exactly. Literally no room to work with to load and unload plates without being awkwardly positioned. Probably realized it when they put together the machine, which by then was too late to do anything about it.

Beautiful finished product. Could have been just 3-4’ wider to accommodate the equipment. That said your work was outstanding.

Bar appears to be a Smith Style bar. Will only go directly up and down on a rail. Loading plates is probably a bit challenging but no wall impacts from the bar.

@@RescueResidence There are J hooks and safety catches on the front for a regular bar. Yes, I would have built this at least 10-12 feet wide.
